Well Gendo's not ALL bad, in the original series he did everything he did because he desperately wanted to be reunited with his deceased wife. This is likely one of the primary reasons this scene even took place, he didn't want to risk losing Eva Unit 01, which had his wife's soul in it.
In End of Evangelion he also states that he was afraid of having a relationship with his son Shinji. He believed that all he ever did was cause his son pain so he sort of ran away. In this he and Shinji are very much alike.

@supremesalad There are many theories, such as them being more mentally unstable and thus, in the case they would be the ones to decide whether or not the 3rd impact would happen, they would hate the world so much that they would rather destroy it. Shinjis mom is inside eva 1, also asukas mom in eva 2, thats why they are able to synchronize so well and they didnt know the angels would come in 2015, if they had come later then shinjis asuka and rei would be older.

Mute this video and play The Beast II from the 2nd OST over the top instead. If you start it playing 3 seconds into this video (The first shot of Unit 01), The Beast II ends almost EXACTLY as the plug from Unit 03 is crushed. Couple that with Shinji's scream and almost 20 seconds of silence after the plug has been crushed and personally I think it would have been a much better fit than the music they chose for this version.
@xerolalala 3.0 teaser trailer (shown on Japanese TV at the end of 2.0) shows Asuka with a bandaged arm also. Mirroring (as many are pointing out) her injuries in End of Eva.

Both primal defensive instinct and previous "The Beast" activations show that an EVA-Unit's means of attack basically amounts to ripping an enemy to shreds until there is absolutely no way for it to fight back. The MP share the same strike patterns.
And, the Dummy System cannot be canceled, however the Unit still works under its own energy parameters - no magical S2 Engine there.
@RebornAleph That could be applied in this case since EVA-01 was made from Lilith's DNA which is why the Dummy System can't be activated and controlled by Shinji as opposed to EVA-02 who instead goes into a controlled Beast state for a certain amount of time because of Mari.
About the S2 engine you just mentioned, I've read info about the making of Unit 04, turns out they tried to install one to it, but then it exploded so we don't know whether it could have acted like an Angel or not.
@TheDarkEleassar Technically, what happened with Unit-04 was a fluke. The merging of the S2 Engine into Unit-04 created a Dirac Sea - the same type of phenomena you may remember from Leliel - and completely submerged NERV-2. That's why they transported Unit-03 to their main branch in Japan. True reasons are unknown, but I'd put my money on SEELE.

@seranox1 The scene was horrible was it not? Well then, mission accomplished! The music is so unfitting its fits cuz it higlights the horror of whats happening. If they had used epic music then we would think the scene was badass. And the rainbow confirms that the angel was defeated.

Wait a minute, why can the dummy system control the eva's mouth when pilots can't?
I mean the dummy system is meant to simulate rei being in the eva, it's just without any humanity or mercy, so it just goes "KILLKILLKILLLKILL IMA EAT ME AN ANGEL".
So why the hell can it control the mouth?

@tommo4k Happy music in itself gets the job done but look at the sickening irony in the lyrics. Like " Lets be friends forever and ever" when unit 01 closes her hands around the angels neck. Theres is no other music better suited for this situation.

U understand what is happening here right? The music they picked highlights the HORROR and insanity of the situation! Thats the whole point.

Mute this video and play The Beast II from the 2nd OST over the top instead. If you start it playing 3 seconds into this video (The first shot of Unit 01), The Beast II ends almost EXACTLY as the plug from Unit 03 is crushed. Couple that with Shinji's scream and almost 20 seconds of silence after the plug has been crushed and personally I think it would have been a much better fit than the music they chose for this version.

So when she got that eye patch she must of full recovered and got in another fight, and then got her eye raped.

@KendrixTermina Yes that was evil of Gendo. He never cared for his son or THE REST OF THE WORLD to begin with. Asuka and the angel was just a obstacle to his own selfish goals. He plans to sacrifice everyone including his own son to make it happen. Imagine if this really happened. A little girl was thrown to the wolves to save ur ass. Would you be happy? Ask every sane person on the planet. How many do you think would be happy about it?

As much as we hate Gendo for this scene both in this movie and in the series. We can't help but agree that it was the best decision.
Also most of you probably realise this but at 2:15 you can faintly hear Asuka scream before Shinji shouts stop it.

@Stiglitz51 Though it may have been a good choice, I don't think that the Dummy System can't be turned off once activated, I mean it was more than enough to just snap the Angel's neck, but to tear it apart and to even bite into the capsule severely wounding Asuka was really unnecessary, seriously.

@TheDarkEleassar Not unnecessary at all, actually. The primal instinct of a predator defines its means of attack. Both primal defensive instinct and previous "The Beast" activations show that an EVA-Unit's means of attack basically amounts to ripping an enemy to shreds until there is absolutely no way for it to fight back. The MP share the same strike patterns.
And, the Dummy System cannot be canceled, however the Unit still works under its own energy parameters - no magical S2 Engine there.

@RebornAleph That could be applied in this case since EVA-01 was made from Lilith's DNA which is why the Dummy System can't be activated and controlled by Shinji as opposed to EVA-02 who instead goes into a controlled Beast state for a certain amount of time because of Mari.
About the S2 engine you just mentioned, I've read info about the making of Unit 04, turns out they tried to install one to it, but then it exploded so we don't know whether it could have acted like an Angel or not.

@TheDarkEleassar Technically, what happened with Unit-04 was a fluke. The merging of the S2 Engine into Unit-04 created a Dirac Sea - the same type of phenomena you may remember from Leliel - and completely submerged NERV-2. That's why they transported Unit-03 to their main branch in Japan. True reasons are unknown, but I'd put my money on SEELE.

@RebornAleph Ehehe, the ironic thing in your comment is the fact that I haven't really seen Evangelion yet ^^' but I'm planning to once I finish my school year during my vacation, I only know about it 'cause of wiki and some episode (though in South America they broadcast the same episode for quite some time, like I always end up watching the last minutes of the whole fight against Zeruel, it's probably three times that I saw it now; and no, I'm not from South America, I only live there for now)
