@TheBaltimoreKnight that's how they had an advantage over the greeks who had shorter spear (about 4 meters). They can point 5 rows of pikes (sorry i should have call them sarissa as pike) ahead making them almost invincible on the front. And before a battle the sarissa were carried in two pieces and then slid together when they were being used.
@minh1905 Yeah. I kind of got messed with with the meters. I'm a U.S. standard measurment guy. But yeah, a meter and yard is about the same, 3 feet. So the Macedonian sarissa was about 18 feet long and the other Greeks were about 12 feet long. That would give the Macedonians a 6 foot advantage. I wonder how the Zulus who favored short 2-3 foot long spears would have done against the Greeks who prefered gigantic long spears to keep the enemy away with a miltilevel wall of spear points.
