Kamina's death was the challange that Simon had to face, otherwise he'd be dead many times. I'm not sure how it'd turn out with Kamina, but Simon somewhat reminded of him. Also, if he was alive, they wouldn't escaped from the Hyperdimensional blah blah blah, since it was Kamina who helped Simon and Yoko set free from it.

Nia's death was useless since it was at ending...

... but if both was alive, damn what a happy ending!

@Urnakl In my opinion that anime has 2 parts ( I don't mean that parts where Simon is a kid and when is adult ) . Before Kamina dies it's best part of anime and it's more epic even if it haven't got epic moments that are later.
