  • what are you trying to sell a watch lol.. no one cares about the watch lol skip to 3:20 like that guy said.. come on now..

  • @mike212916 dude if you don't like how he introduces his videos, don't watch it.... it's his channel and his videos. He can introduce his watch and possibly sell it if he wants to. You'd be surprised at how many people care about the watch. Stop being so ignorant.

  • skip to 3:20 to get post all the blah blah blah bullshit.

  • what compound do you use? and where can i get some?>

  • @DigitalUrbanCamo he says in the video

  • good work here

  • Very enjoyable thank you

  • very interesting thanks

  • Heard a guy sharpened half a centimeter from his H1 dragonfly. Smaller knife.

  • omg I couldn't get passed his friggen monologuing.....ended it 2:30

  • LOL, love your "push cut". You say to pick one spot and just push, but you slide a tad bit then push, starting the cut making it easy to slice through.

  • about a third of this video is him procrastinating

  • why do the batteries die to

  • why do people call you during sharpening and stroping vids

  • .........Learn something too

  • Great VID by the way. I always enjoy your videos and i usually something too.

  • What kind of paste are you using on the leather and on the canvas

  • Show us how to make a shank.

  • Im getting a leather stropping paddle but what kind of compound (if necessary) should i used

  • What do you use to sharpen your knives?

  • @SCAREDBANANA A sharpening stone.

  • &wadsworth=1

  • your edge is not square to the strop when you go back up the strop...

  • I just thought to myself whether or not I should post this, but I also wanted to know how often you get this. you sound an awful lot like on of my favorite actors, Mike O'Malley. Have you ever been told you sound very similar to Mike o'Malley?

  • Hey I'm kinda new to all of this and I was wondering where I can buy a strop

  • Hey I'm kinda new to all of this and I was wondering where you can buy a strop

  • you used Dovo Green? what about Flitz?

  • Jeff,What is the paste you use,How much did it cost and Is the tenascious a good knife utility wise?

    PS-Very good video

  • wat is the compound u use

  • can you do a stropping video on a knife with a heavy re-curve like the kershaw storm?

  • @cutlerylover Do you do a full tutorial of sharpening knives?

  • Great video. Love your balisong tutorials. Would strong on the backside (suede) of a leather belt do anything for blade maintenance our would it just do more harm than good?

  • Hey Jeff, I was wondering about the paste you were talking about that you put on the leather side of your strop? Where can I get some also?

  • Hey Jeff, I was wondering what was the paste you were talking about on the leather? Where can I get some at?

  • Am I the only one that wishes that they would go back to case hardened steel in pocket knives? Holds an edge for ever.

  • If you were stropping a filet knife would you do it flat like a straight edge razor?

  • Hey Jeff, would you strop serrations??

  • Hey Jeff is that cowhide or horse leather?

  • thanks for the nice vid. No canvas side for knives??

  • can you just use a old smooth belt or anything else with a smooth surface

  • whats the diffrence between stropping compounds im curious because im going to purchase a strop with some compound soon and i want to get it right :)

  • if someon called while filming I would just restart

  • What knife is that? It's quite nice. Thanks for the tutorial.

  • @fabfauna Spyderco Tenacious

  • What's that strap at the bottom of the knife called

  • @lilrambo97 You mean the Lanyard?

  • Hey Jeff, just wanted to share a little tip with you.

When you're in a rush and you feel your knife getting a little dull, sit down and strop it on your jeans. It works in a pinch and really restores that edge.

  • Do you get the paste on the website also?

  • i love your advice

  • I'm still using my old belt, wrapped around an arm on my chair.

I don't know how well it's working on the blades compared to a real strop, but it sure makes my BELT nice and smooth!

  • could you do it with the backside of a belt?

  • could you do it with the backside of a belt?

  • The leather strops I have are mounted to wood, but I've noticed that the 'traditional" ones barbers use are flexible like yours. Is there a reason for that?

  • @wishbone1138 I was going to say what you did. But someone always beats me to it when I think I'm going to say something smart. I have a wide piece of leather glued down to a 4" x 24" board, edges trimmed flush. Makes it a lot easier to control the angle. Works great. I guess the style like in this vid is more convenient for storage or is traditional.

  • @wishbone1138 slack strops are for straight razors. the ones mounted on wood are not. a slack strop will round your edge.

  • when you turn you knife to the other side, why don't you turn it over the back side instead of the sharp one, this way you reduce the risk of cutting into your strop (which you did) ?

  • Very nice tutorial! I need to pick up a strop now.

  • I heard that stropping a knife can be done using cardboard (like a brown cardboard box). I tried it, but I'm new to sharpening and stuff so I'm not a good judge. Any thoughts on this?

  • Very good and helpful video, Jeff! Especially on explaining the technique!

  • what did you use your knife for today?

  • Im interested in starting stropping. Would this be the leather strop yo recommend? and also, what type of paste?

  • what do you do for work?

  • I use a belt. A pants belt. Should this work, or am I going to need an "actual" belt.

  • Jemico? Don´t know that, but as a German I like german Produkts. ;)

  • whered u get ur strop ? that thing has a nice kinda olde school look to it

  • using newspaper? Same as stropping?

  • I don't really get why people still wear watches. there is a clock/watch on almost every electronic. (ipod, cell phones, stoves, microwaves, house phones, computers, cars, coffee pots, i could go on for a while here...)

  • @BloodyPaperclip Those are all on the power grid though except the car but its not like you can take a car with you everywhere. And a watch is nice for outdoors. Plus I think alot of them are pretty cool looking :)

  • Where do you get the paste compound that you put on the strop? What is this paste called?

  • @ds10363 It's either a diamond paste or a Chromium Oxide paste, you can find them at most jeweller supply stores or online at most knife supply stores. Look for a Green or a White rouge.

  • nice snowflake at the end!

  • gettin a tenacous for christmas,,,yes

  • Daggumit. Just when I was satisfied with the level of sharpness I was getting, you show me this. Now I won't be satisfied after I sharpen my knives because I'll know they could be that little bit sharper.

  • @cutlerylover what do you use your knife for on a daily basis

  • 2 people must have dull knifes

  • dude that watch is sooooooooooooo bichin

  • That strop is a multitasker it can be used if the kids get out of line lol

  • talkin about e.d.c why not a new e.d.c vid jeff :)

  • hey Jeff, check out murray carters vids on sharpening. I've enjoyed watching them

  • I got one knife from my great grandpa and its about 18 years old and he's a mason so he used this knife for everything and the knife is really worn but still locks really well but the blade has been sharpened so many times that its actually gotten smaller it's one of my favorites but I dont carry it every day. I normally carry my cheapo's

  • What compound do you use for a daily strop? What is the difference between using this and a metal honing stick thing that most people use in a kitchen?

  • Great video!!!!!

    Thanks for posting.

  • Honestly Jeff i don't like the first person view you always give even with knife reviews i think it would be better if you were actually in the video.

  • @ecck2 when I watch videos of people in the video showing something I watch the person not the item their talking about...

  • @cutlerylover i like the style of your vids.

  • @cutlerylover

Yup stick with first person. I don't get distracted by people as much as the other things surrounding them. I watched a gun review a while back where a guy was outside and there was a soccer game going on in the background and that's about all I remember about the video.

  • @Grungadin lol

  • @cutlerylover Jeff one day can you make a 3rd person video? like your doing a knife review like normal but the camrea is some where else in the room? and youll spit the screen so we can see what postion and stuff your in while making a vid.

Mabey something like behind the scenes 2

  • @cutlerylover jeff, i'am contacting you agian about that tonto butterfly knife you got form that trade. I am sorry for sending you a second message with out a reply from the first but i would love to know, were i could get one or how i could get it form you. thanks.

  • @cutlerylover Well you dont even have to do it in knife reviews but honestly for unboxing videos i thikn it would be better.

  • @cutlerylover Agreed, I want to see the item, not the person. =)

  • @ecck2 Honestly i like the first person.

  • @ecck2 almost no one does it the way you describe it

  • Do You Do You're Razors on it ?

  • @krazy45cat yes but you keep razors flat on the strop the whole time for the right angle, Ill have a new quick vid on this for straight razors...

  • @cutlerylover ive recently got a pearl straight razor but i think my friend stole it when he moved yesterday when he came to say bye

  • @cutlerylover oh wait found it lol

  • @krazy45cat your*

  • For larger knives i use a balsa wood strop with some compound on it. Bigger and cheaper then a leather strop and it works just as good.

  • Ok, Stropping, rods, wet stones, what order?

  • @TangoMikeFoxtrot

1st: course grind of whetstone X1000 grain

2st: fine grind of whetstone X4000 grain

3rd: Strop OR Steel for like 5 min (this part is just to realign the knife's steel edge)

  • That is one hell of a watch my friend.

  • Isn't that hatchet suposed to be in your car?

  • so does it just sharpen it? i dont know? :P

  • Do you ever change the compound or add more

  • I don't have a strop but I use the backside of an old leather belt. Use the buckle to attach it to a door handle so I can pull it tight. Not perfect but kinda does the job.

  • great vid Jeff thanks 4 the tips

  • Can you teach us how to make your lanyard? Two tones would be good cause we would automatically know how to do it with single colour.

And also, is there an alternative to getting a leather strop for us who can't get it here?

  • Hey Jeff can you make a benchstone sharpening tutorial and talk about different types of stones?

  • Thank you so much Jeff!!! it made my day

  • @brownbear696969 good to hear haha

  • @YngwieZero I do :)

  • How does this concept work?

  • @Chrismonchan your pollishing the edge of the blade making it thinner and sharper

  • @cutlerylover So I'm assuming it's not a replacement for whetstones or grinding stones.

  • @cutlerylover By my understanding, the edge of every blade has little ... frays? little serations from sharpening, no matter what. When you do this, it takes the edges that are bent back and forth, and straitening them. There's a video on it round here somewhere, that shows a 3d representation of what it's like super close up.

On top of the minute sharpening and refining.

  • @LunarFuror thats what happens when you use a kitchen steel it straigtens the edge, although this does the same it polishes the tiny teeth to even smaller tiny teeth...

  • @cutlerylover Ooooooh. Well that explains why it gets so sharp, I was always confused on that... Also The McRib thing, I ended up asking my managers about it. The McRib in most places dies fast, but when it comes out it sells like hotcakes. Some places however have it all year round, like in Germany apperently, and some other parts of the US but that's all they told me. Basically, when we have no other specials near year end, we bust it out.

  • @LunarFuror they're called burrs, i believe

  • Damn, that kid really love 69 position

  • WOW!

hey what do you use for editing your youtube video's ?

  • Try using a buffing wheel with some compound if you don't have a leather strop, it makes it razor sharp too

  • i love cutting paper but i hate cleaning up afterward :)

  • @wackedout991 it wasn't open

  • Thank you!! Great video :)

  • wow that cut was perfect XD

  • Really cool vid Jeff always

    learning something new...Good

    stuff..

  • Yo dude u need to get sponsered by county comm already, all there stuff u show on ur vids...I'm pretty sure they've gotten all this business cuz of cutlerylover...that would b crazy!!

  • @cutlerylover I love how you say 'Hey, What's Up Guys?' at the start of every video haha

  • Great vid!

  • You should clean and grease the strop with non abrasive paste occasionally to keep the leather smooth and make it last longer.

  • can you make a vid about how to make the lanyards like on the tenacious

  • brownbear696969? does his name really need that many 69's? Im sure the name brownbear would be open.

  • Hey Jeff, no matter how light you strop with this style it will roll the edge, degreasing its effectiveness. I suggest you to glue the strop on a hard wood. And strop your knife just like sharpening it on a stone. You will see a really big difference. Even dovo strops their razor on a very hard leather, not on these softies. I also suggest using a very soft natural buckskin before leather stropping for max sharpness.

  • thanks.

  • 7:07 slice 'n' dice :D

  • ever try a straight razor , cutlery ? : )

  • @flashdamingo

    He has one.

  • i saw a strap on a piece of wood. is that better or worse than one you have to hold or does it not realy matter?

  • the straight cut on paper is a great test of sharpness. Good on you for getting more people into stropping!

  • @GadgetsNGear or if you can run the blade on your arm backwards and hair gets flicked off, thats sharp.

  • I've heard that too much stropping will cause hair to grow on your palms.

  • @ODgr33n sounds like some serious business..

  • do the review on the coldsteel finn bear plz !!!

  • Thanks for posting this. Excellent information.

  • Good video Jeff. Im glad you added in the newspaper part. I was thinking people may not believe me on that. I know I didnt at first when I first heard it. But good video on showing how to strop on an old straight razor stropping strap.

  • Much easier to touch up a sharp knife every day than to sharpen a knife after a week of use.

  • dig that watch yo. someone sent me a strop and the green chalk stuff, i used it on my buck cross lock and hey it works.

  • do a video of you shaveing with that spyderco!

  • i love watching paper cutting tests on youtube because i dont have to clean it up:)

  • FINALLY

  • i wish i could have a knife like that one

  • ain't that bitch pickin up all the paper hate when that happens

  • I was taught how to sharpen on a stone efficiently today. There's nothing like sharpening your own knives!!! Stone sharpening is the best, mainly because there's a certain skill set necessary to do it! Hah, and John Fitzen reference FTW!

  • also another tip thats helped me out ton, if you finish it up on the side of glass like a mirror or car window on the edge of it, it give you a really sharp edge....just 5-7 strokes on each side or so

  • is it likely to dull ur blade if you are new to stropping? also is this easy to find (in canada)?

  • YOu forgot the part "and kepp your powder dry" Fitzen, I mean Cutlerylover.

  • dammm i wish i could keep my knifes sharp life that

  • how long do you change your strop?

  • dont lead with the point on your forward stroke jeff, your strop will last much longer:-)

  • my EDC is the tenacious :D

I took my knife out when you took it out !

  • jeff...you must be one of the coolest and nicest guys ever. keep doin what your doin sir!

  • have you ever seen the boogieman? cuz i have...

  • @bkbboy17 i dont think the boogieman is that stupid to show up at jeffs house, man keeps a gun n every room, even the bathroom,

  • I really like the looks of that knife. Looks pretty tough, yet simple. I bought on on ebay just now. But 50 bucks, ouch. That's a lot to pay for a knife. Better be good :)

  • You should get cutlerylover fridge magnets done. You could sell them for a couple bucks each. I sure as hell would buy a handful.

  • Some POV knife action. I'm diggin it ;)

  • Would it be the same equipment and technique with a straight razor? and what is the paste called/ were can I buy some?

  • Is that Dovo/Jemico paste you're using?

I'm pretty sure Dovo Green paste is coarser than Dovo Red, the guys over at StraightRazorPlace(.)com would know.
