To the guy that said it's Mopar, better do a history check. American Motors built the Jeeps before Der Mopar bought them out when Renault bailed (just as they started to make some real money with the XJs too!) I have a Comanche that I want to put my spare AMC V8 into.
@keatonisballin lol wireing thats cute, its a carb... Basically a power wire going from the ignition switch to the coil. a 6 cylinder to V8 tach signal converter if you want to retain the stock tack ( the speedo is cable actuated I thought) find a coolant and oil pressure sending units with similiar resistance values as stock that bolt onto the motor and enjoy!
yeah, mopar sounds good and I likemopars too. But the GM adapter kit for this vehicle was easier to install and all the electronics we're originally fitted for GM's. In fact, the original v6 was a 173 GM...
yeap, the jeep was 4x4.. Are you sure of using that engine? maybe a 4.3 vortec ir easier to install. There are several adapter kits for that engine...
all the motor and tranny mounts are from Advance adapters. The engine fitted well around steering rod and master cilinder. The only issue was the fron axle. We had tu lift the suspension 2''1/2 so the oil pan didn't hit it.
We bought the engine mounts from Advance Adapters and weld it into the chassis. The headers are the Advanced Adapters Slick Fit headers. They are originally built for the v8 engine swap for a chevy s10 but they fit like a glove into the cherokee engine bay.
maybe, but the main reason of the swap was to keep this cherokee as a daily driver trying to keep it as stock as possible and not turn it into a off road monster or a funny car.
@572blownhemi lol it was also fairly buildable. Buddy has a 305 punched 30 over with a 350 crank. Now its a 323 stroker in a iroc z.. He built because someone said the same thing to him. he has around 500 horse at the tires. Its mean. he hasnt taken it to the track tho just yet he just got it done building it about a month ago
Gotta love it. I just jerked out the 2.8L out of mine and dropped in a hopped up SB 350 as well. I am working out some clutch issues and getting the exhaust finished I should have it streetable within the week. I am getting very excited. Nice job on yours!
Sweet inspiration! I need to get my XJ running! This is exactly the swap that I started to do 10 years ago - I have a 1986 XJ that I took the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine out of, and I have mounted the 305 V-8 from an '88 Silverado on AA mounts. I have the TH350 Tranny and NP241c transfer case that I need to make a mount for, I have to put in a lift and build the radiator, driveshafts and exhaust. I haven't touched this project for six years, but now that I see yours running, I know it can be done!
Needs some fan shrouds lol, but good deal otherwise

how much was the adapter kit for 700r4 to 231? did the same driveshafts fit? did you use same torque converter or swap it out?
mattloveschevy 2 years ago
mm no idea, this transmission and the transfer came out from a blazer together so there was no need to adapt anything.
MoleLoosli 2 years ago
Could have easily done a 318 swap I'd imagine. Granted parts wouldn't be cheap... it'd still be a Mopar by heart.

@Magnuspire But then itt'd be a piece of $hit mopar.
i885744 1 year ago
@i885744 A Jeep IS a mopar. So now it's a "piece of $hit" mopar with a motor that won't see 150k miles.

Was it 4WD if it was what did you have to do to it Im thinking about doing a engine swap using a Ford 3.8 v6 and a Aod tranny

what about the driveshafts and tranny mounts? did this all work with stock? did the motor fit around the steering rod and master cylinder?

How did u do it ...... I have 95 jeep chreokee what to do the same

lol love the open headers you have on there. sick mod for a cherokee that should have been done in the factory.

did you fab up custom motor mounts? and how was the firewall clearance with the headers?
