Helicopter training is just so expensive, in Australia its round about $27k for a personal license and $47k for a commercial license, i've been a sparky for 12 years and really need a career change, i really want to become a pilot but i just can't convince myself enough that there is a guaranteed job out there for me once i have finished and invested all this money in training.
@rosscobosco, Be warned it is a VERY long hard road!, VERY!, if you would like some advice, feel free to message me, I'm always happy to help if I can,
OFFSHORE WELDERS EARN $2,775.00 PER 84 HR. WORK WEEK. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WORKING OFFSHORE AS A WELDER, OR WELDERS HELPER, OR GALLEY HAND, OR ROUSTABOUT, PLEASE SEND TO ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS, THANKS.
Cool vid! Thanks for making and sharing it! ... Why do they have a big net on the landing area? I've noticed it done on ships. Traction? I'd be afraid of hooking a strut.
@LarryCanFly , Yep traction !, in the marine environment you get salt deposits that are really slippery, along with the general moisture.
If you look closely the skids are turned up at each end to stop hooking in.
During power off landings you actually slide along the ground ! , so they are pretty good at not hooking in ! , but it scares the shit out of you the first time ! ;)
@lukeallen , As long as the wind is steady and from the same direction it actually makes it easier to hover, from the aircrafts position its actaully in forwards flight not hover (transitional lift) so you use far less fuel and have the engines on a lower power setting, so less wear, the more wind the better as long as its steady. ;)
@cliffsoar , Fantastic aircraft, very safe, however the first one we had here had the occational glitch in the instrumentation software, the Pilot would "re boot" during flight and that would always solve the problem, any super sophisticated machine will have moments of RAM seizure. For SAR work they are brilliant.
I am a police pilot and am fortunate to fly the Agusta A119 Koala and Astar B3 for patrol duties. We fly tight fast orbits over the bad guys and its fun... no doubt, but I would love the chance to fly a different mission once in a while. This is a neat example of a nice change of pace that takes skill as well. Very Cool!
yes, i do,of course, i over-enjoyed, the music and the video. There are a very skillfull men working and doing excellent job, as the pilot of that chopter. Is HAROLD (not howard)melvin and the blue notes.

why do they use the trailer landing platform for the helicopter to land on at the end of the video instead of using the concrete pad ?
is it for anti-static shielding or something ?
hearttobefelt 2 years ago
It's propably the last flight of the day. They use the platform and the little tractor to move the helicopter inside the hanger.
jpardoel 2 years ago 3
@hearttobefelt They can be wheeled into the hanger easily that way for storage/maint at the end of the day.

It is.
It's from Horns Reef - 80xVestas V80 2MW all equipped with a helihoist platform.
That's (almost) an every day occurence for the service technicians doing maintennance.
I've tried it - it's a thrill.
