He has also worked on many other projects like the m1 Abrams tank and seawolf class submarines, etc. He says the f-22 took so long to develop because the technology the designers wanted to be in the aircraft were not possible at the time they needed to wait for technology to advance.
I was also a USMC EA-6B mechanic (airframes/life support) and did 3 years in the navy (flight school/USS GW div officer), so I know about development and procurements procedures of our military and government. My point is that people need to see past "company lines" and realize that the F-22 is FAR BEHIND any previous schedule and has NEVER DONE COMBAT DUTY. the point is not about speed, a human can survive at any speed, even Mac 10 if the plane is going in a straight line at constant speed. These are law of physics.
Now what can kill a human at that speed is the variation of it. If you accelerate or decelerate or turn the speed varies and your vains will explode.

Tornado is not the same class as the Eurofighter. Tornado was a Fighting bomber with the best low flying abilitys. Eurofighter is the only plane which can fly 9g maneuvers even at super sonic speed. Also it is able to detect and get a lock on the F22 which is denied by the USA of course. But they never tried it again ;)

Besides, the F-22 and the Typhoon are used for completely different roles, further nulling the argument (the F-22 is a stealth penetration aircraft, but the Typhoon is a multi-role naval/air superiority fighter). Thanks. You'll note that I made a point to use clips with cloudy backgrounds, as it is damn near impossible to appreciate a plane's performance/velocity/turn rates/etc. on video against a clear blue sky.

All F-22 have been grounded(Failure in oxygen systems for pilot, 1 pilot died and many were affected due to hypoxia) so I am really disappointed I will not see them at my local airshow. They still have bugs to work out I guess but you would think they would have a secondary or over ride to that system.
I would also mention the fact that the F-22 is the only fighter in operation that does not have to have its missiles exposed to lock on to a target, which means that it can lock onto multiple planes at once and those planes will never know they are locked on until the missiles are in the air. The F-35 will be the second plane with that technology.
Humans can most certainly stay alive in an aircraft which is flying MUCH, MUCH faster than Mach 3. The X-15 rocket-plane flew in excess of Mach-5. Christ, even the space shuttle exceeds mach -3 when it flies. It takes roughly 30 minutes for the space shuttle to traverse the United States, when it is in orbit.
Try looking up what speeds the X-15 rocket plane achived, then come back here and tell me that humans can't survive beyond mach 3. That's utter nonsense.

The F-22 raptors top speed is incorrect. You can research all you want but, it is unavailable to the general public. The sustainability of speed increase is dependent on the frame of the aircraft which is the first to correctly use a ramjet system. Loo up how good the russian and chinese scramjet tests went....LOL. I always thought they discontinued the F-22 was really expensive for one plane, so the government got all the airplane companies together to try to create a joint aircraft, thus the F-35. @galatasarayfan67 Yea, most people say the F-15 is the perfect fighter. What they don't realize is that it has the perfect combat record. There are so many things wrong about the body-works that one of them literally disintegrated in the air.
Over the course of 40 years one of them happened to break apart and I read it was not the overall design of the F-15, something was not properly installed on the framework.
I don't think it's the 'perfect fighter' I just think it's pretty damn good. It has a 103 to 0 combat ratio because usually the enemies were weaker than the US or Israel using their F-15s.

The 2007 StLouis ANG crash was a design failure in the structural longerons (connect the cockpit with the fuselage) of the F-15. All F-15s were immediately grounded. Strike Eagles cleared first, then after inspections all remaining F-15s (A-C models, including Tyndall schoolhouse) cleared to fly.
Why does it have to be "perfect" or nothing with you FAN BOYS? The F-15 is far from perfect, as is the F-16 or F-18, but they are far better than the F-22. Wanna know why? THEY HAVE ALL SEEN COMBAT!! CURRENTLY, the F-22 is grounded for OBOGS pollution. Meaning, the O2 system is KILLING aircrews (pilots). And all of this for the rebate price of 350 mil (lowball) price. Seriously?! The F22 apparently needs 30+ hours maintenance per hour spent in the hour, mainly due to the poor durability of the radar absorbent materials. The entire fleet is STILL grounded despite months of investigation into the oxygen system failure that caused a fatal crash in late 2010, as well as concerns that the environmental system was poisoning the pilots with propane and carbon monoxide.
That is not just typical downtime, there is something fundamentally wrong with the aircraft.
@JCrownwell those reports by the washington times and the bull dyke rachel madow are false, do some reading, you'll find out that each raptor costs 142 million a plane, almost the same as the f35, they only require 10.5 hrs today, and when that report came out they required about 18hrs, but it is still a young plane with a young airframe, guess what the mig15 had problems at first, the p51 mustang at first was a useless plane, what's the rush we dont need them, now
There's a lot of reliable testimony to suggest that the F22 has recurrent problems with airframe stress fractures, corrosion and recurrent technical problems. It's also indisputable that the airfleet is still grounded.

No other aircraft can honestly compete against the Raptor.. One raptor wiped the floor clean in a dogfight against multiple F-15's (One of the most successful fighter aircraft ever established, having over a hundred wins to zero losses in dogfights). No Chinese or Russian fighter can take one of these out.
The plane itself is very cool indeed. However, it has so many limitations that even USAF command agreed that it will require number of upgrades and several years to make it "mission capable". This is the main reason why this fighter never seen a fight. Ever. It had never fired a single bullet in action (except movies) for six years. Of course, nobody in good mental health will put in action plane which can't pass data to the rest of F-teens or others NATO fighters. Search for "F-22 limitations"

You're right and wrong. G force is the killer, which can be created by acceleration, although no aircraft can accelerate fast enough to damage a body. An aircraft creating a high g load is most assuredly DE-celerating. G limiters are in fact put in place for safety and airframe longevity reasons, even though the pilots and airframe could withstand more for a brief period.
On unmanned vehicles, you're way off. They are controlled by humans remotely, not by AI. The reason they are the future is they don't come home in body bags, making them far more politically expendable. Their limitation, as any combat sim (Falcon) flyer will tell you, is situational awareness. Looking through a TV screen is far inferior to seeing with your own eyes. Hence the many claims of innocent people being killed by our drones. And they have the best imaging gear available

Is it reasonable for a organization to tell other people the trade offs instead of the benefits of the organization?
For example, say I ask the recruiter if enlisting is worth it or not, the recruiter would say yes because..well...he is in it and doesn't want to give the enlisting a bad name yes?

I've never heard it called the craptor, but I agree. If you like the aircraft so much, go buy one yourself, or buy the unclaimed 550 plus. I AM a tax ayer, and a 21 year military veteran, and it makes me angry that MY tax dollars go toward even one of these aircraft. You think after 13 years of develoment and all the trouble, lus an additional 1 million per airframe is worth the cost?

Even though the f22 is probably the most capable fighter in service today, there are still many shortcomings with its development, such as the amazingly high development and maintenance costs. Why do you think the didn't produce the 700+ aircraft? To cut prices, of course, but only because they overran the resources available for the project.

He has also worked on many other projects like the m1 Abrams tank and seawolf class submarines, etc. He says the f-22 took so long to develop because the technology the designers wanted to be in the aircraft were not possible at the time they needed to wait for technology to advance.

I was also a USMC EA-6B mechanic (airframes/life support) and did 3 years in the navy (flight school/USS GW div officer), so I know about development and procurements procedures of our military and government. My point is that people need to see past "company lines" and realize that the F-22 is FAR BEHIND any previous schedule and has NEVER DONE COMBAT DUTY. It is 2x behind the F-15, and has NOTHING to show for it. And I disagree with your grandfather, the tech was there.

It takes time to create a good solid and reliable aircraft such as the F-16 and F-15. I disagree with most of them, as those planes also fell within the 10 year time frame of RFP to deployment that I talked about earlier. Yes, all planes have problems, but the Raptor has been nothing but one problem after another, with no end in sight. 2. Computers that FAIL when crossing the international date line. Hmm, did MS develop these to have BSODs?

the point is not about speed, a human can survive at any speed, even Mac 10 if the plane is going in a straight line at constant speed. These are law of physics.
Now what can kill a human at that speed is the variation of it. If you accelerate or decelerate or turn the speed varies and your vains will explode.

Tornado is not the same class as the Eurofighter. Tornado was a Fighting bomber with the best low flying abilitys. Eurofighter is the only plane which can fly 9g maneuvers even at super sonic speed. Also it is able to detect and get a lock on the F22 which is denied by the USA of course. But they never tried it again ;)

Besides, the F-22 and the Typhoon are used for completely different roles, further nulling the argument (the F-22 is a stealth penetration aircraft, but the Typhoon is a multi-role naval/air superiority fighter). Yes, the Tiffy is also classified as "multirole", but the F-22 can also carry AtG ordnance. So again, where's this huge difference in roles?

The Eurofighter Typhoon is not a stealth fighter by any means, it is a multirole air superiorty fighter jet meant to hold its own in close range combat. Thanks. You'll note that I made a point to use clips with cloudy backgrounds, as it is damn near impossible to appreciate a plane's performance/velocity/turn rates/etc. on video against a clear blue sky.

Listen, I like the EF, but the F-22 would blow the shit out of it. and no, the EF's radar cannot detect it. If such technology were already in place, the EF souldn't be changing its radar to AESA, and you wouldn't see so many nations investing billions into stealth aircraft, including the UK..

All F-22 have been grounded(Failure in oxygen systems for pilot, 1 pilot died and many were affected due to hypoxia) so I am really disappointed I will not see them at my local airshow. They still have bugs to work out I guess but you would think they would have a secondary or over ride to that system.

I would also mention the fact that the F-22 is the only fighter in operation that does not have to have its missiles exposed to lock on to a target, which means that it can lock onto multiple planes at once and those planes will never know they are locked on until the missiles are in the air. The F-35 will be the second plane with that technology.

Humans can most certainly stay alive in an aircraft which is flying MUCH, MUCH faster than Mach 3. The X-15 rocket-plane flew in excess of Mach-5. Christ, even the space shuttle exceeds mach -3 when it flies. It takes roughly 30 minutes for the space shuttle to traverse the United States, when it is in orbit.
Try looking up what speeds the X-15 rocket plane achived, then come back here and tell me that humans can't survive beyond mach 3. That's utter nonsense.

The F-22 raptors top speed is incorrect. You can research all you want but, it is unavailable to the general public. The sustainability of speed increase is dependent on the frame of the aircraft which is the first to correctly use a ramjet system. Loo up how good the russian and chinese scramjet tests went....LOL. America is safe. Although the problems are a bit tedious and some are rather large problems. I garuntee it will be unstopable for years to come.Until the NAFT program starts up again.

i hate assholes who make videos trying to prove there bullshit point.. the aircraft are not built for the same roll so how can u compare.. i love the raptor and the typhoon but there built to do a job just like u get differant cars and jeeps and race cars.. the weather here in scotland the raptor would be forever grounded, hence why they went with the typhoon development, there based just beside my house. its a pitty the f22 has been scrapped though cos its nice machine. not good in the rain!

Please, correct me if I'm wrong. But was the F-22 Raptor not replaced by the new F-35? I always thought they discontinued the F-22 was really expensive for one plane, so the government got all the airplane companies together to try to create a joint aircraft, thus the F-35. What I thought replaced the F-22 was that the F-35 could be used by Navy, Marines, and Air Force, on the top that its cheaper to make. My facts are from Nova.

@vietboi904 There two different planes with 2 different roles, The f-22 was made to keep Air Superiority at all times, The F-35 is mainly used to attack grown targets. So its kind of like this.. The f-22 knocks down the door and keeps all aircraft at bay while the F-35 takes out ground units. Those are the main differences. Atleast thats what i got from google. Who knows..

People always fail to relise that every new plane will have problems, the only reason people never heard about F-15 and F-16 failures is because theres was no internet when they first came into production and I guess the media wasnt putting their noses everywhere.

A little F-15 vs F-22 Timeline History Lesson:
F-15, RFP = 1965, F-15 operational delivery = 1974, F-15 first combat deployment = 1976, F-15 A/A kill = 1979.
F-22, RFP = 1986, F-22 operational delivery = 2005, F-22 first combat deployment = as of 2011, ZERO.
F-15 from RFP to delivery = 9 years, w/ACTUAL COMBAT DEPLOYMENT 2 years later.
F-22 from RFP to delivery = 19 years. With only airshows and simulated combat under its belt to date.

Over the course of 40 years one of them happened to break apart and I read it was not the overall design of the F-15, something was not properly installed on the framework.
I don't think it's the 'perfect fighter' I just think it's pretty damn good. It has a 103 to 0 combat ratio because usually the enemies were weaker than the US or Israel using their F-15s.

The 2007 StLouis ANG crash was a design failure in the structural longerons (connect the cockpit with the fuselage) of the F-15. All F-15s were immediately grounded. Strike Eagles cleared first, then after inspections all remaining F-15s (A-C models, including Tyndall schoolhouse) cleared to fly.

The F22 apparently needs 30+ hours maintenance per hour spent in the hour, mainly due to the poor durability of the radar absorbent materials. The entire fleet is STILL grounded despite months of investigation into the oxygen system failure that caused a fatal crash in late 2010, as well as concerns that the environmental system was poisoning the pilots with propane and carbon monoxide.
That is not just typical downtime, there is something fundamentally wrong with the aircraft.

@JCrownwell those reports by the washington times and the bull dyke rachel madow are false, do some reading, you'll find out that each raptor costs 142 million a plane, almost the same as the f35, they only require 10.5 hrs today, and when that report came out they required about 18hrs, but it is still a young plane with a young airframe, guess what the mig15 had problems at first, the p51 mustang at first was a useless plane, what's the rush we dont need them, now

There's a lot of reliable testimony to suggest that the F22 has recurrent problems with airframe stress fractures, corrosion and recurrent technical problems. It's also indisputable that the airfleet is still grounded.
Do you have some references to back up your numbers? I'd be interested to read them.

No other aircraft can honestly compete against the Raptor.. One raptor wiped the floor clean in a dogfight against multiple F-15's (One of the most successful fighter aircraft ever established, having over a hundred wins to zero losses in dogfights). No Chinese or Russian fighter can take one of these out.

The plane itself is very cool indeed. However, it has so many limitations that even USAF command agreed that it will require number of upgrades and several years to make it "mission capable". This is the main reason why this fighter never seen a fight. Ever. It had never fired a single bullet in action (except movies) for six years. Of course, nobody in good mental health will put in action plane which can't pass data to the rest of F-teens or others NATO fighters. Search for "F-22 limitations"

They say that the f22 will be the last fighter jet flown by humans. The next Generation will be unmanned fighter jets because computers are becoming so advanced they can do a better job and go much faster so fast it would kill a human because their blood would leave their brain.

You're right and wrong. G force is the killer, which can be created by acceleration, although no aircraft can accelerate fast enough to damage a body. An aircraft creating a high g load is most assuredly DE-celerating. G limiters are in fact put in place for safety and airframe longevity reasons, even though the pilots and airframe could withstand more for a brief period.

On unmanned vehicles, you're way off. They are controlled by humans remotely, not by AI. The reason they are the future is they don't come home in body bags, making them far more politically expendable. Their limitation, as any combat sim (Falcon) flyer will tell you, is situational awareness. Looking through a TV screen is far inferior to seeing with your own eyes. Hence the many claims of innocent people being killed by our drones. And they have the best imaging gear available
