They teach that it is wrong to use electricity, but when they get sick, and have to go see a doctor and be put in a hospital for medical care , now all of a sudden it is ok to use electricity. If using electricity is wrong sometimes, why is it not wrong all the time? Religion makes a fool out of people doesn't it, and really sends a lot of people to hell, but Jesus Christ the Son of God saves. Aren't you glad that Jesus never said: Thou shalt not use electricity.
Lovely people. We had a TV programme over here in the UK where some Amish teenagers came to spend time with British teenagers. Their hardworking, happy, intelligent and positive outlook on life in comparison to many of our lazy, aimless, materialistic, night-clubbing teenagers was a revelation. I might not agree with their over-reliance on religion but they have something precious we've lost in our own societies.
It looks like they were trying to have their worship and community time together and and the photographer was being a paparazzi. I'm sure they hate being stared at and people taking their photos.
Yes, it depends on the order of the Amish and the wealth of the community. Different Amish communties accept different things.
It's stupid to believe every Amish community is a throw back to the 1800s, because that is not the case. People who live around the Amish know this, but outsiders don't so they expect more then what the Amish actually are.
The Amish live the way they do because they believe that is the path to heaven. God told us that we are to live seperate from the world but thats not what saves us. That is why I left the comment below.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Gal. 2:16
This is so beautiful! What an outstanding job on this video!! I visited Upstate NY last month and got to see the Amish for the first time in my life and I was so fascinated. Thank you for sharing.
I Would say that's probably due to the fact that Amish rarely see doctors, unless they really have to. Education only runs till the 8th grade too, although Autism is spotted long before that in our world, it may not be in theres.
i've actually have had, amish baked goods. when i bought them, i said hi, to the amish lady, and she was very soft spoken. they really keep to themselves,it's fascinating.

I find this video rather odd. I grew up amongst the Amish and if there is one thing I can say is that they are both the most conservative and yet most radical people I have ever known. They are most conservative in preserving their culture yet radical in their resistance to our over secularized society. All in all, they are most representative of what it means to be American. God bless them.
They don't either - they just don't live in a media-intensive world. They deal with it in an older fashion: privately. Something which I'm sure the Holloway, Anthony, Peterson, and Smart families, whose scandals and misfortunes became public knowledge, would have appreciated.

I don't know why any one would want to visit the Amish. Theres nothing there really to visit. I like going to the Amish because they sell good cold cuts. I think visiting the Amish is more of a in state visit thing, not something for say somone from California or Europe to visit.
Amish culture is unique in that it is still true Christian. There are other plain Christian groups in America. Like the Hutterites, Old order Mennonites, German Brethern ect.
It may sound strange, but I really want to join the church. Right now,I'm learning a lot of Penn. Dutch words. Can anybody tell me how to say "Hey, how's it going?" When I learn the entire language, hopefully, my parents will let me go join.
I have wacthed a lot and I don't see it. Tell me where to go so I can see it. I did not know that. I really thought they were loving and good people. So please let me know where Ican see this. Thank You
there is probably no video of course. Google amish women, and you'll find a lot of info. Children don't get educated past grade 8 and women are not equal to men (except maybe in doing chores) they play somewhat of a "submissive" role in a marriage. Though I'm obviously not amish, but I've read a lot about them
@paralyzer1111 That's not only an Amish thing, about women being submissive. Many conservative Christian churches, especially the Anabaptists (Amish, Mennonite, Hutterite, etc) believe the Bible says women are to submit to their husbands. They submit to their husbands' leadership and have different roles, keeping the house and raising the children. But (even though it's hard to understand for an outsider) women are actually highly honoured in these churches.
Why don't the Amish wear any colors? I ifnd it very morbid seeing everyone of them in dark grim outfits. Where that in Bible? American society is most definately totally corrupt and out of control but the Amish go way to far to the other extreme. Where's the moderation?

Great Video. I've always wanted to visit the Amish people. Sounds like a stupid question but do they use money? Or are they compleatly self sufficient? I once saw an artical that claimed the Amish people eat only once a day.... Is this true?
Yes they do, my Father had dealings with them years ago. Phones are also allowed in barns provided they are just used for business. They can seem standoffish, but once you get to know them, they're the kindest people you'll ever meet.
Nice piece of work. Too bad the ignorant, uninformed, and the narrow minded have to resort to profanity and name calling to deal with anything they can't understand. If you can't say anything good, then just don't open your mouth.
Man they seem like really gentile, nice people. I wish I could live a life like that. Just family, God, Work and chill.
the only thing im concerned about is, if they only wed other amish, who all come from the same little group of colonist back then.. the person u marry and have kids with is almost certain a relative of yours ... that aint right.
They believe a lot is treating all animals especially dogs like disposable farm animals. They have huge numbers of puppy mills. Also the Amish has very high amounts of child molestation. These are the people who have puppy mills and they should be legally accountable.
Well simpleton's use that excuse all the time " I have never heard of that" You will hear them exclaim. Bottom line here is these people are high on the Michael Jackson list. They call most elders in the Amish community, Chester as in Chester the Molester. From extensive research of statistics which if far above your intellect I have researched that the rates of molestation in the Amish community are 2x's higher than general society. Here endeth the lesson.
simpleton ?!? are you a little sensitive to someone asking for reference? which you still have'nt provided. before i posted my comment i did a google search on "amish child molestation" and only one article came up. one.
you sound like a dick also. did i critisize you? No. just asking because i sincerly hadn't heard of that.
and until you can provide reference for your statistics they mean nothing.

Hide behind religion all you want. There is no proof behind your religion all it is nothing more than superstition. Religion is for the weak. People who have the follower mentality. People who are cult like, drinking that grape kool-aid. Bottom line here is religion is for losers. I think religion is a neurological disorder. We are a nation that is unenlightened because of religion. I do believe that. I think religion stops people from thinking. I think it justified crazies.
You're just as bad as a bible thumper, insisting that you are right and forcing your "enlightened" beliefs on people. You are just like a christian missionary. I am irreligious as well, but at least I leave people alone.
Actually they are dressed in the fashion of European ancestors. They chose to shun 'modern' lifestyles-I guess they made that decision around the 17th Century or so.
I don't think so. If a black person wished to become part of their community, they would let him do so, I think, but the Amish as an ethnic group are of German descend and therefore white.
the amish people have a very good life no money no worrys they take care of each other they even take there time there greatful not like us we are greedy selfish people who take advantage of others i think they have strong beliefs and to his own good on them living this way there is nothing wrong wearing sunglasses man we all like to have 1 day with them it will open our eyes
I like Amish, they cant be blamed for anntyhing. All of us are buisy destroing the world.. and they are one af the few who can say that it just wasn't their fault. If it wasnt for the religous part, I would probely have joint them
i used to see this all the time living in upstate new york i work with the amish they are very nice people. i think it is wonderful that they are pretty much staying back intime.
This is a very interesting video. Anyone who is judging the Amish should be ashamed of themselves. They are human beings like you and me, not animals. Just because they live a different way doesn't mean anything. They are just living their lives the best they can--just like everyone else. It's just another culture.
They just stopt going with the develepment. But if they want to be so pure why did they stop so late? That is what Iam saying. Why is the 19th century better then the 21th century? If we now stop to develop they say in 200 years: Beatiful they are obiosly closer to God. But why? Why is the 19th century closer to God? Cause is we stop develop for 200 years we are closer to God? I find that strange that`s all what iam trying to say
Had nothing because they were dropped in an empty world. We are now filling that world. What iam trying to say is that the 1800 were ones modern to. So if I now create my own religious comunity and I say: we are staying at this point of develpment and go no further. Than in 200 years that will be primitive to. But why should this time be more to God then the 23th century? And why should the 19th century be more close to god then the 21th century?
who in the world said this century is better? by the time of the flood men were so corrupted, the human raze had to be destroyed:(..... you think ancient times were better then this? i mean who said that? if someone said then i'll b able to get your point
Then they will say who that guys are living pure and stuff. But it really is the modern of 200 years ago. And why is the 1800 a better time for God? It was just as full as sin as the 21 century. But that is just the vision of a naïve dutch guy. Sorry for my bad english.
Offcourse it`s simple. But I think it`s a little bit hypocrit because they don`t live in caves like God have created us. Iam not a believer but they believe God created them. And they are not naked. Offcourse it is primitive but at some point it was modern. And if I go to start a comunity and I will not go with the normal develpment anymore.
what are you talking about? God didnt creat us to live in caves, and men wasnt living in caves! they are not naked? what are you talking about my friend?
Music is something I can sleep to. Hehe very relaxing.

Nice piece of work. Too bad the ignorant, uninformed, and the narrow minded have to resort to profanity and name calling to deal with anything they can't understand. If you can't say anything good, then just don't open your mouth.

I like the fact that the kids are playing on a plastic play set and the baby has a plastic pacifier in her mouth

WillBackbone 3 years ago
i'd never heard of the molestation bit. can you provide a reference?
cashkcash 3 years ago
Well simpleton's use that excuse all the time " I have never heard of that" You will hear them exclaim. Bottom line here is these people are high on the Michael Jackson list. They call most elders in the Amish community, Chester as in Chester the Molester. From extensive research of statistics which if far above your intellect I have researched that the rates of molestation in the Amish community are 2x's higher than general society. Here endeth the lesson.
WillBackbone 3 years ago
simpleton ?!? are you a little sensitive to someone asking for reference? which you still have'nt provided. before i posted my comment i did a google search on "amish child molestation" and only one article came up. one.
you sound like a dick also. did i critisize you? No. just asking because i sincerly hadn't heard of that.
and until you can provide reference for your statistics they mean nothing.

WillBackbone 3 years ago
You're just as bad as a bible thumper, insisting that you are right and forcing your "enlightened" beliefs on people. You are just like a christian missionary. I am irreligious as well, but at least I leave people alone.

i grew up in PA, remember seeing amish. I'm in Korea now, but i miss seeing them.
I have always wondered if they believe in repentence and faith in Jesus alone for Salvation? was never explained to me.
Beautiful video By the way.

why do they dress like jews?
Westonci 4 years ago
Actually they are dressed in the fashion of European ancestors. They chose to shun 'modern' lifestyles-I guess they made that decision around the 17th Century or so.

ARE THERE BLACK AMISH FOLKS?
kalumnch 4 years ago
I don't think so. If a black person wished to become part of their community, they would let him do so, I think, but the Amish as an ethnic group are of German descend and therefore white.

i used to see this all the time living in upstate new york i work with the amish they are very nice people. i think it is wonderful that they are pretty much staying back intime.
K6S6E6 4 years ago

I find that strange that`s all what iam trying to say
gijs14 4 years ago
this is because then they didn't have so much. like now we worship money, clothes, video games,ect.... that is just how they worship.
labsrock101 4 years ago 2
Had nothing because they were dropped in an empty world. We are now filling that world. What iam trying to say is that the 1800 were ones modern to. So if I now create my own religious comunity and I say: we are staying at this point of develpment and go no further. Than in 200 years that will be primitive to. But why should this time be more to God then the 23th century? And why should the 19th century be more close to god then the 21th century?
gijs14 4 years ago
who in the world said this century is better? by the time of the flood men were so corrupted, the human raze had to be destroyed:(..... you think ancient times were better then this? i mean who said that? if someone said then i'll b able to get your point
luixander19 4 years ago
Nobody but that`s as strange as thinking the 19th century is better.
gijs14 4 years ago
Then they will say who that guys are living pure and stuff. But it really is the modern of 200 years ago. And why is the 1800 a better time for God? It was just as full as sin as the 21 century. But that is just the vision of a naïve dutch guy. Sorry for my bad english.
gijs14 4 years ago
Offcourse it`s simple. But I think it`s a little bit hypocrit because they don`t live in caves like God have created us. Iam not a believer but they believe God created them. And they are not naked. Offcourse it is primitive but at some point it was modern. And if I go to start a comunity and I will not go with the normal develpment anymore.
gijs14 4 years ago
what are you talking about? God didnt creat us to live in caves, and men wasnt living in caves! they are not naked? what are you talking about my friend?
luixander19 4 years ago
So you think time started in the 1800`s? No in the beginning man had to create something. They were naked.
