This clip was from "Kraft Music Hall" in April of 1969. The song is "I Don't Want To Walk Without You, Baby," by Frank Loesser and Jule Styne. It was a big hit for Rosemary Clooney early in her career, and a few years ago it was recorded by Manilow.
There's a movie with Marilyn Monroe (she plays a deranged babysitter) but it has Anne Bancroft in it (a REALLY young Anne Bancroft) and Bancroft plays a lounge singer. If you can find a clip of that anywhere please tell me but just know that her voice is impossibly lovely in that film.
Wow. Just wow. Where did you find this? I didnt know she could sing too! She was always incredibly beautiful and sensual but this is almost pornographic. Her intelligent beauty, the pose and her throaty voice made my eyes pop. Lesser mortals use nudity to do what she does fully clothed. LOL. I want to watch this again. And again. And again. Thank you.
not surprising. Back in the day you had to be able to SING AND DANCE just to get into hollywood. The Mrs. Robinson seduction scene is one of my all time favorites. It's right up there with the revival scene from The Abyss.
Anne Bancroft was a first choice to play Fanny Brice in the original Broadway production of FUNNY GIRL (as were Edie Gorme and Carol Burnett). Bancroft felt the songs were beyond her vocal capabilities. Eventually the role went to someone whose name escapes me at the moment ...
WOW! This is amazing... I hadn't seen any of her movies until a few months ago (The Graduate!) and now I absolutely adore her. And now I can even hear her sing!!! :))
Wow--I can tell that she is a smoker just from hearing her voice. It's true, she would look that much more beautiful and sexy if she didn't smoker. She was only 36 in the graduate...what a shame :(
I'm sorry--I didn't realize that Ben Braddock himself would be reading my comments. But I do agree with you--she is very sexy, but the smoking shows...
ditto your entire comment. anne is one of the sexiest women to have ever lived. i would have melted had i ever been able to look into her eyes. she's my favorite actress. i was devastated the day she passed away. it's still on my calendar. she's one of the most beautiful, funny, quirky women ever. i miss her.
This is fantastic, I never saw this and I have loved Anne Bancroft since the 50's when I saw her on Person to Person. She was such a gutsy dame as we said in NY. A brilliant talent and here looks beautiful and as said that deep, torch song voice. How Splendid. Thank you forever.
at least her films remain. it must have been devastating losing her, for everyone but especially for her mother, Mel, her son, her sisters, and her entire family and close circle of friends. what a lady.
This is from a 1970 TV Special called "Annie: The Women in the Life of a Man." Bancroft won the Emmy that year. I saw it 37 years ago and have never forgotten it.
I can't believe I could find it again. Thank you, Youtube.
Fantastic! Miss her but thankfully we still have her to marvel at.

In the pantheon of Hollywood goddesses, if Marilyn Monroe was Aphrodite, Anne Bancroft was Athena!

I had absolutely no idea she could sing also. But, I happen to know that Mel Brooks adored her.
On one interview he gave after she passed away he described her as a wonderful woman.
True, she was - in every respect.

I want t big cushion too. Seriously this is a great performance from Anne. Interesting this concept of singing lying down, some folks swear by it
