  • LEGENDARY.

  • Oh my God. Will we ever create melodies like this say in 2020..what happens to music when such legends pass on eventually

  • How great is this going to be!

  • Great stuff

  • Legendary duo. They were and still are good at close harmony!

  • I don´t want to offend anyone - but the preference arguments look ridiculous. Paul´s talent (of a graduated anglicist) seems more concentrated, Art´s talent (of a graduated mathematician) more dispersed. They are entirely different people - but both of them wonderful. Shouldn´t we just be grateful for the fact that they got together in the right time? That they live?

  • Paul Simon is the talent here. A rich, distinct, clear, unique voice. Art is good at providing tenor-level harmony. Thank you, Paul. You lifted this duo to heights and then went on to a distinguished career of your own. i especially appreciated your counterpoint in Scarborough Fair/Canticle. You made that version awesome

  • Great performance... but I think omitting the orchestral build up and the power that was generated as it repeated and other instruments joined in-- loses power-for me,anyway.

  • It honestly doesnt get an gooder than this . . .

  • @TxKimberly well, your grammar certainly does.

  • @Ukuleleboy100 You can tell an awful lot about a person by how they react to my poor attempt at making people smile.

  • @TxKimberly you can make people smile using good grammar

  • @Ukuleleboy100 And you may feel free to make people smile in what ever fashion suites you and I will continue to do the same. In the mean time, how about we get back to commenting on the music?

  • @TxKimberly i agree, the music is amazing.

  • Fantastic performance and a truly timeless song. My only slight criticism is that their timing is out a little at times and their is some autotuning going on with the vocals.

  • Yeah that's okay, Art.

  • Are they playing on Letterman show ?

  • 14 people are whores on 7th avenue

  • Wow. Is there a better live performance of this song by them? I was not expecting them to sound so good at this point in their careers. Awesome!

  • This is amazing...the way music should be

  • I'm always impressed with Paul's ease with the guitar even while singing with such emotion in his voice. Not an easy task!

  • :-) What a great duo

  • As they are older, their words hold more water, because you can see they now understand what they mean.

  • Very good Simon and Garfunkel Cover you can find at:

    graceland-online.de

  • 14 dislikes? seriously what the f is wrong with you to dislike THIS?

  • It's amazing that they can still sound that good at their age.

  • Comment removed

  • Their voices haven't changed at all. It's amazing.

  • there are 13 people who are just Bang out of order

  • aren't these voices supposed to go together?

  • These are special 'people'; angelic almost, so dignified, talented and rare!

  • wonderful stuff.. gaga should be forced to listen to how proper music sounds

  • @pedrolovesmusic You should hear some of her earlier stuff

  • @pedrolovesmusic gaga isn't the one to go after, she's one of the really talented ones right now. Check out her unplugged stuff

  • The artists back then were true artists, writing lyrics that had special meaning. The melodies they created were original as well as vocals. The kids nowadays listen to music that is simple, words that rhyme to a beat that most times copy older hits. Artists now can't even play an instrument, just vocals. When people are in it just for the money, they create trash. When artists create songs for their souls, it creates classics. Money drives todays music and fame, we need more artists, musicians.

  • @hankakah You took the words right out of my mouth. Your statement is exactly my thoughts on what is wrong with music today. I am still looking for great music out there because i know there are people doing great music like Simon and Garfunkel did back in the days... but i cant seem to find them lol. Theyre probably not "model looking"...

  • great song and some of the best lyrics ever written

  • "All eyes in jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest." Even if I didn't get that exactly right, it's an amazing lyric. The words ring as true today as the day it was penned. A timeless classic and my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song ever.

  • Flew from London to Toronto last week to see Paul Simon's show at Massey Hall and he was as fantastic as ever . Lets hope that Art's vocal problems are fully resolved and the pair can reschedule their cancelled North American tour for the end of this year......what a great way to celebrate their 70th birthdays!

  • Although I love this song, in this version Paul and Art look and sound weary. As if they find it annoying doing this song. Even a dutch duo "Nick en Simon" perform better, fresher.

This song is one of my all time favorites. Paul and Art are great artists, but now they barter away this song.

  • @veltmaat1108 They also have sung this song hundreds of times over decades. Unless something else can give them energy to break through the boredom and weight of ages, the performance will not catch fire.

  • @veltmaat1108 That's a lie-la-lie--la-la-la-lie-la-lie

  • @veltmaat1108 That Dutch duo "Nick en Simon" will sound just the same when they are older too! You can't compare like this. Unfair. I for one think that it is a wonderful job Simon & Garfunkel are doing at their age.

  • I am older than I once was, And younger than I'll be...

  • They are too good for lettermans lil' show

  • 1000000000000 thumbs ups for this!

    

  • all lies and jests still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregaurds the rest

  • here we go

  • An exceptional duo, pity that they hated and that impacted its music

  • Great musicians never lose their touch. Amazing :))

  • their voices together sound like angels that came down from heaven to unleash musical fusion on the world. :D

  • That´s a kind of music that makes us fell like flying... WOW...

  • 12 people prefer ufc

  • Where, and when was this recorded ?

  • The way the harmonize it is jaw dropping.

  • they harmonize great :-)

  • Hmmm...I wonder the new lyrics were improvised or if they were in the original version of the song. Anyone know?

  • @NohSpinZone

The extra verse was added at their 1981 Concert at Central Park and sometimes they play it, an sometimes they don't since then, but I love it.

  • @johnnyelectron The verse was written in 1969 and was performed in 1969 before the album was even released. They didnt put it on the studio version because Art wrote the horn instrumentals to take place of the verse. The most notable time when the two of them performed the song with the verse was in 1975 when they "reunited" on Saturday Night Live. The verse has always been around, just not always performed like you said.

  • I heard 3 duets what is fantastic: Simon and Garfunkel

    Plant and girl from India

    Mercury and Caballet!

    but

What the fuck is Justin with Bieber

  • This is also my favourite song from this awesome musicians and singers.

  • 12 dislikes?????? cut your ears off you idiots....

  • yep their playing half speed

  • i can play this perhaps better

  • @Syzygy60 and you sing better too,really??hahaha

  • Beautiful harmony from the sensational Simon & Garfunkel-wow, they are just incredible!

  • A legendary duo. One can barely aspire to reach a tenth of that level. This performance is a MASTERCLASS. If you have time, check the cover of The Boxer on my channel.

  • amazing performance, amazing artists, amazing song... I remember listening to this when I was 17, now I has approach 60, wow, what a journey its been....

And I am older than I once was

And younger than I'll be, but that's not unusual

No it isn't strange after changes upon chances

We are more or less the same

After changes, we are more or less the same"

    ...but the fighter still remains.......

  • @DavidPVS I've said here before, this should be the national anthem. It covers the reality of the American experience. Some win, some lose, regardless of how much they try. We should not just honor who came in first, but who gave there all.

  • @DavidPVS a great comment. I am 63 and my hole live I take this song with me, too

I am a German and ever live in Berlin. We are very thankfull to the years of the sixties

they gave us a big viev of a better world in future .... what ever it was .. And most Songs

of Simon & Garfunkel are so true .... thank you guy´s and all the best

  • My God, they are 70 years old yet they still sound like they did forty years ago!

  • I would love to see a tour where its exactly like this. Just Paul, Art and Pauls guitar.

  • @bushbasher85 i would have loved to see the two of them at the R n' R HOF concert. the world will never see a duo like this ever again. its kind of depressing because music now is all machine junk.

  • I love the humble sentence "if thats OK" in the beginning. Sure, The boxer live would do..

  • these old fags still rock!

  • Love em still !!!!!! May the Lord bless them with a long life...Still got it !!!!

  • Awesome Duo. No more to be said. I SAID NO MORE.

  • Um Gottes Willen, sind die geil!!!

  • I love them and seeing them age, not badly, breaks my heart so much. I can't stand the thought of them not being able to perform forever.

  • Daaaaaaamn them dudes age not-so-well.. but I belive that they could outsing Justin Bever & Katy Perry-and Im only 17!!!

  • @StickShiftVanMan REALLY because they are nearly 70 here...Let's see you at almost 70...if ya make it!

  • @Krazede

How terribly strange to be seventy....

  • @strikeanote

    but, but, but, but

  • I made a folk song called "A Winter Evening's Tale" which is a year ender song that i wanna share to all die hard folk and rock music lovers facing the year 2011. I wanna share this new year's eve for free before the studio version comes out. Check it out in the response of this awesome video or in my channel. Happy folky New Year Everyone!

  • awesome!!

  • Brilliant, the one on MSG was autotuned a little.

  • i love them.

  • great song, is the soundtrack of my life...

  • This is not the real song! But this is my favorite song sorry but i'm dutch!

  • @Winxheld this is the real song o.o what you going on about?

  • Oh my god, The melody is so powerful that makes me cry every time I listen to this amazing song... This is Pure Art, Pure Melody... It draws all the Melancholy outta my soul... :,(

  • @matiass1994 for me, melancholy is where my soul can rest

  • This is my all time favorite song!

  • Saw them do their act at Tufts University way back when. Can't say I ever heard anyone came close to their stage excellence. Paul Simon knows that guitar like a Casanova in love

  • Garfunkel's Haunting on line "All lies and ..." in the first verse still takes me aback after 35 years ago when I first heard it as a jr high kid....

  • best song they ever did!

  • I'm 16 and this is one of my favorite songs, only beaten by Sounds of Silence and about 2-3 weeks ago I was in Thailand on a tour with my school. So walking in one of the night markets in Bangkok I heard that "la-la-la" part and I started looking around and I looked up i was standing bellow a bar where a live band was singing this song, IT SOUNDED EXACTLY THE SAME! But it started reminding me of home...I cried that night... don't judge me

  • Paul SImon is a genius of this genre....

  • Such an awesome song, glad to have it as part of my very mixed taste.

  • Who cares which one was the most successful, the most gifted, the most whatever? All taste & most opinions are truly subjective anyway. All this arguing about it is simply mental masturbation. These two together produced some incredible music that transcended commercialism & mere entertainment. Together they were larger than just the sum of their individual talents. And this song, The Boxer, is simply marvelous! If it were performed by either one separately would not be half the song it is here.

  • @macklee49 "Together they were larger than just the sum of their individual talents." Agreed. :)

"And this song, The Boxer, is simply marvelous! If it were performed by either one separately would not be half the song it is here." I think we can say that of 90% of their work.

Even Paul's solo pieces, like Kathy's Song, would've been better performed WITH Garfunkel's harmonies.

  • This is such a great motivational song! I have things in mind to do, and I have been beaten almost to death by opposition. It doesn't take intellegence to persevere. It just takes determination. Cry out all you want that you are leaving, but don't.

  • As I came to the end of my fighting days the words of the last verse took on a whole new meaning. "The fighter still remains" you cannot leave your past and hanker after days long gone.

  • Just a couple of guys n a guitar. no bullshit,just talent.

  • this folks is kown as TRUE talent!

    ... much respect!!

  • nice one! still sound sweet.

  • Comment removed

  • just a good example of how 2 people should work together for ever!!! it makes no deal who did what, the combination is the power!

  • "We're going to the THE BOXER if that's ok."

  • Comment removed

  • simon & garfunkel are one of those phenomenons that we, who r living now, were privileged to experience.

    ... thank u! : )

  • After all these years....... I just got the meaning of the last verse. Paul Simon has to be the most intelligent songwriter of all times.

  • @nerblebun ...

    yes!

  • ... brilliant and thank u!

  • I'm not born in the right time...

  • i think garfunkle is a bit up his own arse simon does 85 percent off the work on most songs , probably why they split art wanted more credit for being just a back up, paul did better without him , where as watch a garfunkle movie and you can see his acting isnt a patch on his singing

  • : ) ... awesome!

  • just wondering when this was cuz they are obviously older...

  • 2 voices, 1 guitar= more music than produced by Lady GagGag, Britney, Jonas Bros, Bieber, , etc combined. The record labels no longer bring us "the best"; they bring us "the product". Peace:-)

  • Da men

  • Ageless and priceless! American treasures, both of them!

  • Old men. But wondafull! I like this song and S&G .

    From Kanagawa sity Japan.

  • Kramer and George....

  • omg garfunkel... ur voice... :(

  • Still great voices, after all those years! Respect

  • Justin Bieber made 10 different accounts and disliked this. There is no other explanation.

  • @skejtboi hahaha why everybody hate him, why, it's because of jealousy that hi get many chiks or what..

I'm not a justien fans but i just wana giv you my own opinion

  • @Abbasz09 Not jealousy, its the fact that he and all the "kids" who are making music nowadays get a lot of attention that they dont deserve and people with real "talent" arent heard of.

i myself dont hate him or any of them (Havent met them) buy i do hate the fact that they compare themselves to people like Kurt Cobain who seemed to have atleast more talent.

  • @sport1500bullit thank you for the answer

  • @skejtboi justin bieber can kis my a!£

  • @skejtboi Justin Bieber....LOL...no one will know what that boy toy ever was or ever is ...so soon, he sucks, never relate real genius and talent...TALENT...look that word up.... with a trend as any way close to the same...there is no comparison...stop being so stupid for all of our sake...

  • genios de la musicaaaa!!! son genialesss

  • Thanks for this video. I love S and G, but I love paul's lyrics. So powerful and telling. I could relate to many of them in my life. Tho now I am sane I still love the music!!

  • And that boy can play guitar...

  • what year was this? They look a lot older

  • pauls voice is horrific...but he is a good songwriter

  • great song with some special message like all song from simon and garfunkel

  • Rest in peace Fred Carter, Jr.

  • With all of the deep sorrows and exquisite joys the decades have brought the two of them, it is amazing to see them still able to perform so beautifully.

  • It still blows me away. They can still mesmerize me with one guitar and two voices.

  • de novo juntos

  • jesus christ, artie still sounds so beautiful...

  • every time i hear on of their "live" recordings i can't help notice that they almost always sound better than studio recordings... unlike alot (if not all) of the modern day artist

  • @bjsh3675

haha... I think that's because all of their studio recordings had such an excess amount of reverb. It annoyed the heck out of me. I much more prefer their live work. Their voices are so good raw, I don't know why they did so much extra stuff in their albums. Like the reverb and a lot of extra instruments. I feel that they'd sound better in all of their albums acoustic ESPECIALLY on the quieter songs like this.

  • art got kramer hair

  • They are extraordinary!

    EduBuys

  • uhhh paul simon and art garfunkle... are back together again theyre going to be going on tour in july... art was also sick for a bit... and not activly singing... theyre actually both very good artists... it doesnt matter who wrote or sang anything... who cares enjoy it for what its supposed to be not a huge bitch fest... theyve both been around since they were 15 and off and on together both singing and writing.. since they were 15... so all ya'll shut up and enjoy what they did.

  • Great songwriters of our time; Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Lennon-McCartney, not necessarily in that order.

  • @MILISA99 u forgot paul weller

  • I told the RCN but the fuckers would not believe me

  • wow, they added lyrics? So cool!

  • "Now the years are rolling by me

    They are rocking evenly

And I am older than I once was

And younger than I'll be, but that's not unusual

No it isn't strange after changes upon chances

We are more or less the same

After changes, we are more or less the same"

I've never heard this part before, it's great! Paul is such a poet and after decades upon decades they both still got it!

  • "Now the years are rolling by me

  • thank you for singing what I feel =)
