  • sparkles29 is wrong. It's 'how wata walk go a pumpkin belly' (not 'grow'). It's not about pregnancy. It's about knowing mysterious things, being in the know. Ask any Jamaican person.

  • Session start with this...guinness with mannish water and a spliff with a sweet sistren to bubble with

  • Tune.

  • The first 3 songs that show up when i search for this song all are different. Can someone explain why or what it is that makes it different and which sounds closest to the original song? I believe this one is, but theres one that plays just a smidgen faster, and another with a really hollow or concert hall type sound, like theres an effect or different EQ setup for it.

  • Lightaaaaaaaaaa!!

  • Just beautiful !

  • YOUTH PROMOTION

  • lovv dis shit !!

  • like

  • what you don't know is older than you,, Jamaican ppl da best

  • The truth of the song is that, one may not know how people achieve their goals, but you can achieve yours by working hard, instead of acting like you have some way of getting what you want without working hard, it takes a longtime for the water to reach the belly of the pumpkin, nature does hardwork, not because you see the result looking glamarous,

  • No, the proverb :"How water-walk go a-pumpkin-belly?" means: 'How simple things can get complicated' or ' How can a simple walk down the water side could make a woman get her belly as big as a pumpkin?'

  • Sigma Pi Phi is the only fraud selling gyow here. Just cuz a few ignorant self proclaimed authorities of the english language and her sister dialects are ignorant as to the origin of a phrase or word doesn't mean that the origin doesn't exist or that someone doesn't know what the origin is.

  • Google is not god. It does not answer all questions. Organic communication between actual living people is where it's at. Ask a living breathing soul about the origin of the word and the phrase. That's what I did. I don't get the information for my soul/consciousness from an artificial source created by the black mans enemy. I get it from the original natural real source. My granny. I know a lot more about west indians than you think. #Burn&BlackBootStompStompTheBoule

  • Jah curse him dat murda so fine a musician trust in dat bwai revenge is a promise seen, everyday.

  • how water walk grow a pumpkin belly? is bout pregnancy how does a little bit of sperm(water) grow and turn into a big belly? u guys mus have friends from kings town u hjave to ask country ppl to explain these proverbs to u lol

  • @sparkles29 It's "walk go" not "walk grow", and any Jamaican from country can tell you what I'm telling you. You sound like someone who doesn't know about Jamaica.

  • Thanks for explaining. I didn't know what the hell it meant.

  • Love to get in to the selling cow thing I have read the comments know my old Jamaican mates yes they where on the Windrush or like they right out of St Elizabeth all in their 70`s proper old Jamaican country boys over the next few days I shall ask them their views on this lyric and post their view. ALWAYS LOVED THE SONG, GREAT DEBATE

  • PULLLLLLLL UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You have got to be sellin gyow!!! What ignoramus defines a dialect as a language? Selling HOLY cow is not selling cadaver or beef! It is selling divine heifers!

  • Top tune ,love it.

  • Where did you get your interpretation from cuz the essence of the song clearly went way over your head. Smh gyow??? Ha! There is no mystery. Water gets to the center of a pumpkin through the process of osmosis... mystery eliminated.

  • @Ezkeel "gyow" is a word in Jamaica. It means untrue boastful nonsense. To "sell gyow" means to try to push such false info/empty boasts on other people. It has nothing to do with cows. Ironically, by keeping up your cow nonsense diatribe on here, you are actually doing just that. You are "selling gyow". What I recommend you do is look up the phrase "sell gyow" in google and see all the Jamaican postings of it. You might learn something.

  • the point of the proverb is that you need to be practical and work hard when faced with a daunting tasks. Like thirsty pumpkins do. Knowledge of the occult is only a part of the equation. Adopting a fantastical and egotistical mindset like you are royalty and things will just come to you is impractical. Also humility is central. Tenor must submit to the wisdom of granny to finally understand the lesson in the question.

  • and yes selling cow is just a fancy way of saying bullshittin . just because you are ignorant of the origin of the phrase doesn't mean it doesn't have one. Or that everyone is ignorant n

  • There is no such thing as Jamaican language!!! Jamaicans speak English!!! This is called a DIALECT!!! Not a language... smh

  • @ericjungleboy it is not type it's cow. Indian culture having influence Jamaican culture due to the high indian population. It is a well known fact that killing cows in India is illegal because the cow is considered a sacred and holy divine beast. There is no such thing as a gyow.

  • @ProLit It's Jamaican language. People call it "Patois". It's a creole dialect developed from English words, but there's a lot of African influence in the pronunciation, grammar, and syntax (word order). Look at the comments below and you can see some info about the lyrics.

  • Both Tenor and Pinchers have the most incredible voices

  • selling a cow lmao.thats funny

  • lol, he didnt say selling cow, its selling gyow. thats means something thats not really true

  • How wata walk!

  • Selling cow is what con artists do in India where the heifer is a sacred animal. They say I have this here "holy cow" but really its just a regular heifer. They charge you a shit load of money and you end up with less than you had before. An elaborate way of saying you are bull shiting me.

The answer to the question "How water walk go a pumpkin belly" is "Whatsoever you want you have to work very hard to gain"

  • @Ezkeel WHAT??? Where did you get all that from?? I hope you're joking. "Selling gyow" has nothing to do with cows as far as I know but it does mean to bullshit someone. But "How water walk go a punkin belly" how something mysterious and hard-to-explain happens, so if someone says they know that, then the chances are they're bullshitting. That's what this song is about. His granny doesn't believe his lie and story.

  • @Ezkeel Look, you don't understand Jamaica or its culture, so stop pretending. Anyone on here who reads Ezkeel's posts, please be aware that he is just making up his own thing that has nothing to do with real Jamaican culture and the meaning of the lyrics to this song.

  • Pull it up... sleng teng all day.

  • I consider Tenor Saw as one of the most creative Raggamuffin artists.

Great voice, great tune, great vibe.

    Big up

  • how water walk through a pumpkin belly.

  • RESPECT

  • This is the song of the old time proverbs.

  • wisdom...i needed to hear this...haven't listened to this song since high school...its meaning still holds and was something I needed to hear tonight...respect TS...in another life, you would have been given it all...as it stands, space and time conspired against you...they conspire against me too my brother...

  • brrrrup!

  • THIZ IZ A ZONG OF THEE OLDTIME PROVERBZ!!!!

  • @ ericjungleboy..I thought it meant how water walk go a pumpkin belly ..i.e how come you went for water (ladies ) and come back pregnant (pumkin belly ).. Saw it seems like you not tellin me truth ..

  • @sonicdis1 No it's not pregnancy. It's like I say. How water walk go a pumpkin belly means something that's a mystery and you have to be really smart to know it. Like somebody ask you say, "Hey, if you're so smart, tell me how water gets inside a coconut" or "If you so smart, tell me how water gets inside a pumpkin".

  • This song says "How wata walk go a punkin belly" because pumpkins have water inside them, and children ask how it got there. So if you know how water walks into a pumpkin's belly, that means you know about things, you have the information. Tenor Saw's granny asks him for the whole story, to tell her the truth. She's asking him, "Tell me how wata walk go a punkin belly" because she doubts his honesty. She says he's "selling gyow" (BS'ing).

  • @ericjungleboy punkin belly" big tune

  • @ericjungleboy IVE ALSO HEARD THAT THIS SONG IS REFERRING TO GETTING A GIRL PREGNANT

  • @SHUBINRECORDS No sir, punkin belly no have nuttin fi do wid pregnancy. You mussi a tink pon "cassava wata" or someting like dat. How wata walk go a punkin belly means a someting is a mystery, and who knows dat know everyting.

  • @ericjungleboy thank you!

  • @ericjungleboy ey junglebwoi. i thought it was, how does water get into a pumpkin's belly, it gets in through the roots, it takes time. its about how you have to work hard and put effort into thing which takes time.

probably more likely the pregancy thing, how does water (sperm) get into a pumpkin belly (a ladies belly). HOW SHE PREGNANT SAW??!

  • @YTisshit Where did you get that idea from? I never heard anybody use it that way. Of course, people know that the water in a pumpkin comes from the roots, but it's just an expression. It's like, because children don't know how the water got there and might ask the adults, so it gives an opportunity for the adult to act really smart like they know something mysterious or to even make up some kind of BS to tell the child. So the expression refers to people who think they know everything.

  • @ericjungleboy

ACTUALLY IT IS REFFERING TO HOW A WOMAN GETS PREGNANT..

  • @strachn Where'd you get your information from?

  • @ericjungleboy wrong

  • @lorddeuce1 about what?

  • @ericjungleboy ur wrong!!!....she ask him that because she wah know weh him a get him money...and him a tell her seh him work hard fi him money

  • @flame984 How the hell is ericjungleboy wrong? He just gives a simple explanation to the question "how wata walk go a punkin belly" that is easily understood. Besides, you are not saying anything he didn't already explain in his comment.

  • @blackdubsociety because thats not the meaning of the song...he's dead wrong...if ur jamaican ask an elder family relative what that means...ericjungleboy is dead WRONG
