  • i wonder if Joe built all those amps and pedals with that drill in the background xD

  • @christianfett he now has his own custom delay pedal by vox/korg. it's called the time machine, he uses two of them usually i believe ;)

  • Joe should make his own scale, publish it, and make it so nobody else can use it. lol

  • @christianfett I believe that he uses custom made fx, if you look at the boxes it will give you that idea, but if iRawk says they are Boss.. maybe they are :)

  • Its cool Yngwie carves but he's fat these days too much European tucker mate hahaha !!!

  • NIce drill :)) And good job Joe!

  • he is good but this guitar is ugly

  • i love listening to satch talk as much as i do to hear him play... jk, nothing is as amazing as listening to him play. even though his conversations are fascinating

  • His phrasing is so unique, Satch is the man.

  • 1:21 look at the strange pedal on the right : looks like a satchurator but in grey : was it his prototype of the ice 9 ?

  • @Cyberbob182 More likely a prototype Satchurator, this video is 2 years old

  • i noticed he picks parallel to the strings and he flicks it very strong..which is kinda different to syle to shredders..

  • Thats because Satriani isnt and never was a shredder. Sure, he can do what any other shredder can do, but he would simply prefer making music over going crazy and tiring himself out.

  • He consistently plays fast licks in his soloing and improvisation. In just about every solo. It's what he's known for. He's a shredder. Just like Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Steve Vai, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, and all of the others. They're great. And they're shredders.

What you're thinking of is a wanker: someone who shreds without making it musical.

    l2music

  • If im not mistaken, vai is a partial shredder, unlike satch, for this reason:

Vai likes to sweep, and joe likes using legato. the difference is that you can make legato sound like its not difficult to play. When you sweep at all, even a three string sweep, it sounds like a solo all on its own,

  • idk where i stand yet on this argument (i do love satch and all the afore mentioned artists though) But if playing fast solos makes someone a shredder then would that make musicians like allan holdworth shredders?

  • Yes. Shred isn't limited to metal or rock. It also stretches to jazz fusion.

  • ok...i was just wondering what ppl think "shred" is

  • Shred typically incorporates complex or showy techniques such as sweep arpeggios, speed picking, fastness, vibrato bar techniques such as dive bombs, tapping of any kind, and beyond that complex stringed instrument work. It typically follows a fairly brisk pace, but slower things such as sixteenth notes at 120 BPM can be shred as well.

It's a very broad term, and is very difficult to accurately or coherently define.

  • ya, exactly. I mean, when i think shred I inherently think yngwie and of course some others like gilbert but i don't think satch. In my opinion, legato is different than shred...if it were the same, then beethoven would be a shredder. Don't get me wrong, shredding isn't bad, it's just everyone has a different opinion (MAB shredding is bad though :P)

  • A complex violin solo could be considered shredding too, but shred is a more contemporary term.

Furthermore, Satriani isn't limited to legato. He often employs advanced whammy bar techniques, harmonics, tapping, sweep arpeggios, and speed picking. Several of his best-known music employs tapping (Midnight and Satch Boogie obviously), and songs like Mind Storm use five-string sweeps. He's well-known for his legato style, but he uses many advanced and techniques.

  • haha, I agree with what you're saying, trust me, I know Satch...he is much more than legato but he seems...hmmm...how do i put this: more tasteful. Some ppl have the idea that shred is just guitar wanking and I hate when ppl think that is all musicians like Satch do.

  • Tasteful, yes. Naturally. But more tasteful than what?

  • nothing against yngwie...he is great for learning technique but that, for instance, is not tasteful. at least to me. And i would imagine a lot of ppl (referencing g3 denver jams)

  • I don't like Yngwie. H's a pompous cunt.

  • @inesenthm Ynqwie is a douch bag and when he throw his guitar around his neck I fucking laugh ....he is a fat ass douch bag...

  • @inesenthm but hes a damn good guitarist

  • @inesenthm he doesn't like you. You're a nobody, while he, is a guitar god...he wins.

  • @MrShredtilldead Yngwie is still a pompous cunt. The point stands.

  • @VoyagerAbove First of all you dont know him personally so you are just guessing. And second just because he smirks everytime he shreds your little universe to pieces it doesnt make him a cunt..its just proves you have an inferiority complex.Cause if you didnt you would just listen to his music and say..i like it..or...i dont like it.its perfectly fine to not like his music...tastes are subjective anyways..but calling him a cunt...proves that your complex runs deep.Psychology one on one.

  • @inesenthm You are right. He is.But he is one of the few that has...every right to be....

  • @Dreamdancer11 Everyone has the right to be a cunt. There's never a good reason for it though. It's -always- inexcusable.

  • @VoyagerAbove Mate he has earned the right to brag if he wants to...he is an innovator whether we like it or not.A huge portion of the way lead guitar is played today is due to his influence. How many guitarists you know that can say that? Plus...why do you even care about his attitude..he is a musican not your..brother in law or your friend.Want a beer buddy or listen to a guitar player? those dont always coexist you know.

  • @Jed9133 that's because he is also holding the whammy bar close. you have less space for your hand and so it looks a little odd.

  • hungarian minor scale?? is that what he said? what is this scale? can anyone help??

  • Its 1 2 m3 #4 5 m6 7 8. A cool little scale, found in gypsy music. Learn it!

  • I thought it was 7#dim a59 G#9 E#7dim B#/C min3 sus?

  • That must be the Hungarian minor C scale as mentioned by the master himself. lol

    Joe 4 ever!

  • they really are...vinnie moore and tony macalpine are way better

  • I see a BB sonic maximizer too, hmm

  • Too many pedals?

I'm sure Joe is a great player without so I'd love to hear him play straight into the amp. No effects just a good solid valve amp.

  • just listen to If I Could Fly, Ten Words or A Love Eternal

  • Just listen to his self titled album "Joe Satriani". I believe most of the songs from that album were recorded with his guitar plugged straight into the amp.

  • Truth.

With the acception of the wah of course

  • Exception.

    Not Acception.

    Learn English.

  • @s1uff1sc001 learn spanish, and if you know that fuck off

  • I speak fluent Spanish. I was just helping him to improve his grammar so he wouldn't embarrass himself in a more formal setting. I would expect anyone else to do the same to me if I had made such a blatant mistake.

  • that was the idea of that album i believe, an album with less effects than his regular songs. kinda bluezy!

  • Awesome video post

  • does anyyone know if satriani is using the pog with the octavia to get that sound

  • Snif, this uy is too strong:'(

  • Boss delay pedal(s)

  • yeah he has two. one for short delay and one for long

  • @iRawk UGHU boss sucks UGHU

  • they're really weird chords Joe made up while sat at his piano. (I read the article that this video was done for) 1st |-2 |-0 |-X |-X |-3 |-X 2nd |-x |-4 |-5 |-X |-X |-X
  • That's not to terribly uncommon, unless you don't know how to make chords.... The first looks like some variation between Gmaj7 and C, it's probably called something else.

Since the second only has two notes it could be anything really, most common would be a Cm I think. It borrows the 7th and the 2nd from the Cmaj scale, but my scale knowledge is pretty limited.

  • these chords are based off the hungarian minor scale by the way

  • sorry for 2 posts...what i meant to say is because its based off of that scale the chords may not exactly fit exactly into any one category....but they sound like add 9 chords

  • Yeah, uh no, no.

It just so happens that all chords are made of scale tones, fyi... it's not JUST based off that scale, with those particular tones tho it will fit, there are many other scales that have those five notes....

  • Yeah, that's pitch axis theory for ya.

  • my my my, arent we a know it all?

  • No, that little bit of knowledge is like 1/82934692364923 of musical theory in total.

That is something anyone should know.

  • This is true.

Not that big of a deal.

  • the c (3) is still in the bass on the second chord

  • Correct

  • they aren't that weird, are just a C5 and a B with minor 3rd!! the difficult part is fit these two chords with the harmony!! and play the song of corse :)

  • cool sound joe!i see a cool red powertool on the table!in which song did you use it!
