0:39 The all too well-known bow echo formation on NEXRAD. I'm surprised that NWS didn't issue a tornado warning until minutes later when the conditions are clearly imminent.
i remember all this, even the storms. i live in wv but i was at my aunts house when it happened. also, the beeping noise scared the crap outta my cat because he thinks it's gonna storm when it's sunny here. poor thing. XD
When I listen to my NOAA Weather Radio during severe weather, the TWC scroll comes way before the alert is announced on NOAA Radio by the NWS. You would think NOAA would broadcast the warning, and then TWC would relay it.
A script has to be read by an employee at the NWS office responsible for issuing the warning. With TWC, all alerts are completely automated, and only in the information is needed for the crawl.
@lightningbolt99999 Here's one thing I don't get, when a warning is issued, the scroll comes up before the weather radio announces it, but when a watch comes up, the scroll doesn't come up until after the weather radio broadcasts it.
@Weatherman436 That has always confused me, too, but I think it's because of all the counties a watch covers. It may just take a lot of time for the Intellistar to process all that information. You can look at the mesoscale discussions on the SPC website if you want to know when a watch is about to be issued.
@lightningbolt99999 It's just how the IntelliSTAR works. For a watch, it scrolls after NOAA Broadcasts an alert. Probably due to large coverage of the watch. A warning, smaller coverage of warning., thus a faster cuing.
I remember this day. I live in Holt. My kids were on spring break from school. I hate the fact that our sirens went off here but the suspected tornado was way at the very southern part of our county. Oh well, better to be safe then sorry I supose.
Everyone thinks that I'm crazy when there's a severe storm, because they just think I'm small. I'm really not scared of storms, but who's not scared of tornadoes? And a BOMB ACCIDENT?!?! In WEST VIRGINA? I live in Ohio and that's a bit closer than you think to West Virgina! Oh my gosh, WHAT A DAY, I GOT SEVERE STORM DAT DAY TOO!

Gorgeous radar signatures. Seems the bow echo & rotation at the ends was more than enough to show a TVS, but not enough to actually cause any big problems.
What icon is that at 5:45 for Capital Region Int'l Airport? It looks like the new wintry mix icon, but it'd be too warm for that. It could be the new hail icon, due to the storm...
On April 5, 2010, at around 10:30pm CDT My part of the county was under a severe thunderstorm warning. Next thing I know, I notice small hail, maybe quarter size, was htting the house. I watch it for a while and then go back to watching TV. Then at like 10:40 I hear the loudest pounding i've ever heard in my life coming from the ceiling. I look outside, and hail, this time the size of golfballs and baseballs is shooting around everywhere like a warzone. I've NEVER seen that in my life. Crazy...
i live in saginaw, it stormed a little bad here with a bunch of lightning and i stayed up the night before and my brother or mom never even closed my window in my room, which my bed is right next to! rofl
Does anyone else find it jolting that the Weather Channel would be covering a mining accident instead of severe weather in Michigan (which is their first priority)?
You know, I'm not entirely sure. Here in Lansing, I just got Heavy Rain and wind out of it. Other than the sky getting dark as the storm got here, mysteriously turning snow white while it was here, and then turning dark again, nothing happened here.

It would be funny if it were to be hot, then have hirad guess wintry mix in 80 to 100 degree weather.

How long was this storm in your area?

Not even 15 minutes. This thing raced along at over 60 mph.

@socool775 Lucky you. On june 2nd 2010, we had severe storm here in Ohio and it lasted about an hour!

5:48 Did i see snow in the airport?

The airport reported hail, which the Intellistar shows as a Wintry Mix.

It's the new wintry mix icon. That icon displays to represent hail, since there is no real hail icon.

@b33292 There wasn't much damage, it was a tornadic storm indicated by radar. I would imagine that area got plagued by hail though.
