this is just awesome. i didnt know they grew like that. how long of a warm season does it require to fully grow? id be interested in trying to grow some at my house next season.
Great getting the kids involved, Donna. I'm wondering if the seeds would come out better if u scraped them with a spoon? That way you could scrape them really hard and they would pop out better and you would not have to use gloves. Just a thought. Those look good to eat, though..I think I would eat them rather than give them to the birds, LOL.
Cant wait to grow mine next year! I have some dwarf and mammouth russian sunflowers. Also what kind of knife is that you have? Your kids are adorable, cant believe how much the youngest has grown!
Yay! I've been anxiously awaiting this video. I didn't have any sunflowers planted this year, so I really enjoyed watching yours grow all season. Just an FYI, I loved your square foot garden videos so much that my husband spent a weekend building me my own boxes for next year and I ran out and bought every book I could on square foot gardening. Your a real inspiration! Thanks so much!
@Rezist01 I don't feel like shelling them LOL Plus, I am out of bird seed. Should I consider saving some for me to eat? Are they much better than store bought? I don't want to miss out on anything here! LOL Any tips on shelling them?
Well in my experience..... on a cold winter night,, snuggling up on the couch... the snack begging begins.... I grab a quart jar.. of salted-roasted sunflower seeds. Sealed in a glass quart jar with a vacume .... and give them each a napkin for the shells... less messy than popcorn... adds to my compast pile...... I guess the birds need them too?
@Rezist01 Ok..you got me at "cold winter night...roasted" I can smell them now!. The next batch is going into food storage for a snowy night this January.....:) :)
