surprised people are complaining about this video so much, i love that the Manics have a cheesy 90's video especially from that album, it's almost like an anomaly
Apparently the video director didn't quite get the lyrics of the song, thinking that She is Suffering was about some woman was that suffering. So the video consists of some women looking miserable :) I like to remember Richey from the Generation Terrorists era- a big beautiful mass of hair, eyeliner and leopardprint, I always thought he looked happy, which made him look more beautiful. On the plus side James looks damn hot in this video :D
dylanfuckkaa so may people argueing in the comments ,maybe you should all try to be a little bit more like rickey and respect each other and maybe try harder to understand each other before abusing and insulting each other,if you could relate totaly to what rchey was writing then in respect for richey maybe you should all try a bit harder to understand each other instead of insults and cockey comments, vival la wales AMEN BROTHER
i remember once listening to this song on my car stereo...and kept hearing that high pitch noise in teh background. thought something was wrong w/ my car...figured it out when i turned off the CD for a few secs. Ah funny manic fan stories...or maybe you had to be there.

manics at their best I reckon...this album and that 'trash?-city' performance amazing. it's like clothes::- always at their best just before they self-destruct... saw Nicky Wire in St. Davids couple years ago- he looked happy. the sun was shining.
I do not think his mental illnes was pretty, of course not. I mean this in every video, the GT-era ones too. I think he looks great. Not because he was skinny, but because he just looked great. He was extremely intelligent, which makes him more beautiful. You just assume that I like it because he's skinny, which is wrong.
Did anybody else get shivers watching this? I think its the combination of the disturbing imagrey (puppetry etc), james' haunting voice, the morbid setting, beautiful song and most of all, the fact that it Was Richey's last promo video. . .
i reckon this has ONE of the best lyrics from the album. its pretty hard to choose from, considering you have the intense humming of evil, archives of pain, of walking abortion, faster (of course), well basically the whole album!! lol
This video is "absolutely shite beyond belief" (Nicky Wire), and I agree with him. My least favourite song and vid from one of the greatest albums of all time.
I didn't know the video existed until now, and that was the first thing that went through my head. I really like this look on him though, and i hate to admit it. He just looks.. accomplished, in some way. As sickening as it is, he stayed beautiful..
On the video I personally think that they had a big idea on it, but failed realizing it. But honestly to date they have not made one really outstanding video - although their music kicks ass.
"If you tolerate this.." is pretty close to being an outstanding video. I think it´s the fact that they´re all really bad actors that diminishes the effect of their vids.
they changed there image on pretty much every album they did (the first four a least before they got dull) visual art and music go hand in hand with the manics, along with the lyrics of corse, its just a bland video is all
This is a classic lyric, i've often thought of its meaning, does it mean that when your a child you dont dwell so much on your ideas or hold them in such esteem or does it describe some sort of longing for the innocence of when you were a kid?
Childhood is a popular theme among Edward's lyrics. I suggest it's about being a child and thus being free as you don't know reality(problems) nor yourself nor anything else that could upset you, thus you are completely happy, childhood ends and you are never again as happy as then.
Everytime childhood is mentioned in the lyrics it is always positive: serene, peaceful, nice; in contrast to the "adult world".
Nevertheless, who can tell? this is the way I feel about them.
yeah i think thats a fairly accurate assessment. There's loads of references to childhood and the degrading and destructive nature of the "adult" world on gold against the soul, eg "theres nothing nice in my head, the adult world took it all away". I think everyone has difficulty accepting some of the dead formalities of the constructed world, but they deal with it in different ways, from alcohol to drugs to revolt.
It is difficult to make a video for a song with a very obscure and blurred meaning but as fas as I know Richey really added some of his ideas during the Holy Bible era for the videos(not all of them being realised).
I wonder why really all are looking up and stearing into nowhere?
There must be a meaning to this, for sure,it's so striking.
i love the manics, the holy bible is my favourite album and this is one of my favourite songs. surely someone could have directed a video of the same class as the song.
yes i agree totally one of their best live. i also think that this video goes well with the song becvause the video also shows such deep meaning and is cryptic as well as the song

A lot of Manic vids are like this, weird and distant. I think it comes from their desire not to gain recognition through image but through content.
