  • Recientlty BC Hydro has snuck a smart meter on our house without our or the owners permission. We live in a 1 and a half bedroom bsmt suite, less then 500sft. We use 1 light at a time at night and wear jackets in our house to keep warm. BC Hydro says that we use almost 2000kwh a billing period (2mos). Our bill is more then our landlords 4 bedroom house, that has a recording studio in their basement.

Please help our familyI dont know what to do BC Hydro WILL NOT HELP US FIGURE IT OUT.

  • thanks for sharing this

  • we hooked up solar panels to our meter and it runs backward - we have a smart meter - i wish it would learn to do the dishes and the laundry ♥

  • please realize that "meter readers" are different than these installers who work for Corix. awesome vid!

  • All that's missing is the installer to be accompanied by a couple of uniformed personel pack'in sub machine gun's. Get's the job done.

  • he is a sell out punk

  • The radiation the woman says? Who in this little discussion have a cellphone? You know the wireless device that you hold to the side of your head and on your person at all times?

  • @PittMusic to what levels do the meter compare to those emitted by a cell phone? id bet you lack such understanding. comparative logic fail.

  • @elmotox I can use my cell phone to make a call around the world, so tell me that doesn't emit some sort of radiation. A smart meter emits a frequency to relay the reading to either a collector or a repeater down the street, which then relays the reading to the main hub. The frequency used in smart meters is not very strong and thats why utilities are having issues making this program work in remote communities. So much wireless technology but were worried about the meter? Comparative logic win.

  • Your private property right are waved when you accept electricity. The smart meter installer could not replace my meter because some kids put super glue in the meter lock ring :)

  • Had a quick read through the charter of rights and freedoms. Doesn't mention the right to electricity. Turns out it's a product that you are buying for yourself, if you don't want that product you don't have to use it, however the meter is Hydro property and they can do with it what they wish. Tampering with the meter is illegal and dangerous.

  • @KDMAKNLS It's funny how the meter is Hydro property but the wire's from the pole to your house that delivers elec. is not.? This just shed's the cost on to you again.

    Hypocracy know's no bounds.

I just upgraded my service and beared the total cost myself. Including the wire from the pole. Now I have no say on what the public utility plugs into it.?

By the way, my bill was double the usual amount.

  • According to the Clean Energy Act, BC Hydro has the right to install the meters!

  • @airva21901 Correct! Also, according to residential land title, utilities (BC Hydro/Shaw/Telus etc...) have the right to access their equipment. This is NOT trespassing.

  • @airva21901 could you please cite the wording of the clean energy act specifically where it grants BC hydro "the right to install the meters..."? since you brought it up and supplied it as justification then you must know what the specific wording is... right?

    thanks in advance.

  • @movitmovit

    17 parts 1-6

  • @Salo69177 thanks for responding but you just listed over half of the entire act. could you be a little more specific? for example, just the part where it states that "... bc hydro has the right to install the meters..." or something similar to what you quoted in your original post.

    thanks in advance.

  • @movitmovit Section 17 Part (2): Subject to subsection (3), the authority must install and put into operation smart meters and related equipment in accordance with and to the extent required by the regulations.

Section 17 Part (3) The authority must complete all obligations imposed under subsection (2) by the end of the 2012 calendar year.

  • @airva21901 thank you.

i can't believe this government sometimes...

did you read subsection 5 of that same section? what a slap in the face to personal liberty! they are forgetting their place as a public utility and are now beginning to consider themselves an "authority", as they so wryly wrote it.

if it wasn't so prohibitively expensive to do so, i would consider going off the grid. a public utility, funded in part by tax money, should not dictate law without prior public input

  • @Salo69177 Thank you :)

  • @movitmovit Section 17 of the Clean Energy Act

  • i like that the guy was so surly. in case you're interested, they fooled my mom into accepting one even though she didn't want it. now she sleeps every night with her head about 3 feet from the fucking thing.

  • @movitmovit Clearly you have NO freaking clue as to the relative transmission power of these devices. We're also being constantly exposed to AM and FM radio waves without any adverse effects. The only difference is that the meters transmit for only about 1 minute a day, where as public radio, WiFi and cell towers are constantly active.

  • @BFm0n ... condescending shill-speak.

tell me then, since you made such a big point about relative transmission power : what is it? what values and at what distance? make sure it's the value for pulse strength, not an average for an entire day or some BS like that.

i heard that an injunction was filed today. i'll bet that someone is not very happy about that :)

maybe doing a little frustration trolling of youtube tonight?

  • @movitmovit It's called debunking, not trolling.

And since all the nay-sayers seem incapable or, more likely, unwilling to do their due diligence, let me enlighten you:

Relative Power Density in microwatts per square centimeter (µW/cm^2)

FM radio or TV broadcast station signal 0.005

Itron Openway SmartMeter (at 3M) 0.005

    Cyber cafe (Wi-Fi) 10 - 20

    Laptop computer 10 - 20

Cell phone held up to head 30 - 10,000

    Walkie-Talkie at head 500 - 42,000

  • @BFm0n thanks for posting this. i honestly did not expect you to respond with anything other than anger.

now, please, supply me with a link or two that can help me to verify this information that you have posted. btw, other vids on youtube dispute your numbers but i'm willing to be fair and wait for your response before i judge.

  • @movitmovit Furthermore, these are not RF pulse communication devices.

I would recommend that you review Itron's whitepapers titled Pulsed RF vs. OpenWay Smart Meter Communications & Analysis of Radio Frequency Exposure Associated with Itron OpenWay Communications Equipment.

  • @BFm0n i read it, as per your recommendation. it was vague, was written by the company that makes the meter, and stated that the command/control packets were sent once every two and a half minutes. a search of youtube and other online sources shows that the packets are transmitted every few seconds. so... who's lying? the company that makes and profits by the meters or the "concerned citizens". if itron is lying about this then how do i know that they are not lying about other things also?
