all i know is that about 10 years ago my wife (born again Christian, non Catholic) was oppressed by a demon and the voice that came out of her was sickening.
i knew when i heard her and looked in her eyes that it wasn't her. only lasted about a half hour but it happened while i was studying what my belief as a Christian is really all about (meaning the relationship as opposed to all the "rules" of "religion").
she has no memory of it and i still have the bible she ripped to shreds.

I am a devout Catholic. Those who are not don't understand the need for ritualistc and repetitive behavior because their faith does not require such acts. My faith, however, calls for these "rituals". I do not agree that the repetitive nature of the Catholic church serves as a form of brainwashing- it is simply a cultural difference.

It is not necessary to believe in a concept or idea, but to fight for it can mean that the individual has faith or a strong belief about that particular subject. Atheists may feel strongly about a topic and fully support it for whatever reasons. That can be considered as a characteristic of faith in one's beliefs. @Thoughtland I would say there are plenty in mental institutions... one couldn't say for sure that they are atheist but if you've ever seen some of the people that are locked up in some of these places you would probably agree. I have.... sad and scary.
