  • ok... is donald o connor hot or what!

  • @ilovejosephriviera He IS the HOTTEST!!!!! What an incredibly talented doll!!! Check out my great channel picture and uploaded videos and Donald montages by my friends:)))))))

  • @ilovejosephriviera RIGHT?!♥

  • Them two are BABES <3

  • Oh em gee! Donald makes it look sooo easy, he's one of my heroes! Gene is so funny, i luv him!

  • 4:13 that's my part-GET IT DONALD! ;)

  • lovelovelove!!!

  • I think, no, I KNOW I just found my new favorite youtube video :)

Why oh why did I have to be born in the wrong time period... :P

  • Fantastic! We will never see the likes of such talent again. Thank god for Youtube where we can revel in wonderful talent of days gone by.

  • right in the eye lmao

  • You can definitely see Kelly's influence on O'Connor's dancing style. When Donald started dancing he was just a hoofer. When he started dancing with Gene Kelly, who had years of ballet training, that's when he started dancing with his whole body instead of just from the waist down, and in a controlled way rather than just flailing about. Kelly was an amazing dancer, but he was just as good a teacher as he was a dancer. This was a pure pleasure to watch!

  • god bless these two men. they just brought (and still bring) so much joy to our hearts. on top of that i had a fangirl moment at 0:56 and 2:28 . . . just ahhhh XD !!!

  • Apparently 22 people never made the cut at any audition they went to.

  • Oh my god, I remember Gene Kelly and Donald in "Singing in the Rain". Gene was the person who inspired me to take tap again. Ah I wish he was still here with us :,(

  • I'm happy this morning after hearing/seeing this vid. Thanks for posting it!

  • 6 1/2 minutes of pure joy...contant smile on my face...what fun

  • My God will we ever see their likes again ..... there's one man missing from this set and you all know who it is. Could you possibly imagine the three of them together????

  • How do you NOT like this???

  • At times their kegs do not even look attached to their bodies!

  • why would peaople even bother to dislike this?! really?

  • I absolutely adore this!!

  • they're both very attractive X)

  • legends

  • What a wonderful moment...and why the hell haven't any of Kelly's or O'Connors TV specials or shows been released to video! If only for the purpose of preservation. Thank you so much for posting it...I would kill...or almost, anyway...to be able to get videos of those shows.

  • 2:00 - 2:13 has to be the smoothest part of the whole thing!

  • classy

  • What's the new song called, please? :)

  • 21 idiots thought this was a lap dance

  • Sucks we don't have this stuff anymore :(

  • uhh right in the eye

  • why dont we have this anymore sad sad

  • is there anyone who know whats the name of the song ..

when the sing ((I see blossom and theres nothing there)) cuz I searched but I could not find it

  • @wehdawi4ever The song is I Wonder Why from Call Me Madam - a fantastic movie with Donald, Ethel Merman, and Vera-Ellen. Donald sings it with Ethel - he starts out and his voice is spellbinding - it's sooooo beautiful - Ethel counterpoints it with another, faster song - it's a very famous duet. Youtube won't allow the main song to be aired.. Donald had a terrific voice, besides being an incredible dancer, actor, comedian, pratfall artist, etc. His romantic dances with Vera are sensational.

  • @wehdawi4ever Youtube allows the shorter version, towards the end of the movie, where Donald sings the faster song and Ethel sings the slow part.....the first version where Donald sings, "I hear singing and there's no one there....", is the best and famous one - unfortunately, when anyone tries to put up the famous part, youtube takes it down - copyright or something - I recommend the movie HIGHLY - Donald is brilliant, as always!!

  • put this link after normal facebook site and like - /pages/Tap-Dancing-should-be-remembered/253048771403499

  • This is so amazing!!

  • I tried. I danced. I failed. I'm crying.

  • I just love this era of dance and entertainment.

  • I think it's sad that when I mention the name gene kelly to my friends, they have no clue who im talking about, I wish kids from my generation could appreciate stuff like this. I'm 16 btw.

  • What's the last song, please?

  • They make it look so easy!~ Fantastic vid. Thanks for sharing.

  • OMG... when there is talent, there is fun! Where does this come from?

  • @jordijota01 This is from Gene Kelly's 1959 T.V. special - He and Donald had starred in Singin' in the Rain in 1952 - Considered the best musical ever made - Donald won the Golden Globe for his performance in it - he was always brilliant!!

  • they make it look so easy. . i once wrote to gene kelly asking him if he'd teach me! of course i never got a reply back. i saw him with i am still in awe of his dancing skills

  • Donald o Conner is soon funny lol..eeekkkk gene!

  • Brilliant. The firiendship and skill just oozes out of the screen. Marvellous.

  • What a great video. thanks for uploading!!

  • I´m crazy about his legs.....

  • I love to see this, I'm a tapdancer myself, and I recognize a lot of things what we learned in the lessons. Thanks for uploading this video, I love watching tapdance-video's

  • Donald look cute in that cloths.

  • i would give 2 legs to dance like this

  • @awn8281 That would be impractical, if you'd want to dance like that ;-)

  • I swear to Gahd... I can't even watch a bloody brilliant display of talent like this without the top comment being about Justin Beiber.

I am so disappointed in you people right now.

  • and when did the show taped ?

  • AWESOME.

  • This is wonderful! What was it recorded from? Goodness, but Gene Kelly must be one of the most handsome men in Hollywood - ever.

  • @violentcello My eyes are on Donald! But, yes, this is a lovely dance! It's from a Gene Kelly TV special, broadcasted on October 16, 1960.

  • 18 people are whack.

  • Dance and talent like this two legends ..... is impossible to beat .... sadly now a days is just remake, redo and rewind .... sigh ... I am 23 ... I can't help but feel like I missed out in moments like this

  • i dance like that when i`m drunk 4:13

  • Im 16 And Im Love Gene Kelly

He Is Awesome nd A LegenD !

  • @TheDarius2095 they were both fantastic, but u could tell kelly was the better dancer, AKA had more experince, he didnt need his arms to balence him if u look O'conner was good BUT had th lesser experince i learned in tap that u need ur arms to balence u out lol O'conner's arms ar flaling about, is gesters are bigger as seen with new dancers

  • @practicalmagic4 How many Donald O'Connor's movies have you seen? If you happen to see as many as I did (it is, most of his musicals) then you'll know he didn't need his arms to keep balance - it was his manner of dancing.

  • @practicalmagic4 Donald was tap dancing since he was a child in Vaudeville - have you seen Singin' in the Rain? Donald has an easier time with the chair jumping than Gene; Donald was THE most athletic and physical dancer. He jumped OVER tables and ONTO tables. Have you seen his brilliant tour de force from Singin' - Make 'Em Laugh where he backlips off walls. Also, check out the clips from Walking My Baby Back Home - his solo where he jumps onto 2 chairs - 1 leg on each is amazing - and

  • Comment removed

  • @practicalmagic4 I just think it's his style. Gene dances with a lower sense of gravity and O'Connor is more up straight. Gene uses his arms subtly in all of his dances whereas O'Connor uses his arms more to make the move bigger. It's just a matter of style.

  • @jadedgurl86 good thought like it makes sense

  • that bit at 4:13 <3

  • what's the name of the music at 1:10 ???

  • thats cool!

  • it's like the dances in mary poppins <3

  • I vaguely remember this planet. Entertainers had something they don't have on this planet. . . what is it called. . . oh, yes! TALENT.

  • Movie Picture Theater or Movie Picture, Moving picture, the Movies are all the same so to speak!

  • I just realized, they called it Picture instead of Movie. Huh.

  • they are awesome xD

  • Whats the song at 1.56 i can't remember where it is from??

  • @begood86 'You're Just In Love' from Call Me Madam. Donald sang it with Ethel Merman.

  • @begood86 It's from the 1953 Donald O'Connnor film, Call Me Madam, also starring Ethel Merman and the lovely Vera-Ellen. Donald is so romantic and dashing in it! I hope you get the chance to check it out!

  • IMO Donald was Gene's best dance partner.

  • It's great when O'Connor falls and just smiles up at Kelly, and Kelly chuckles. I don't know about behind the scenes, but they seem to have gotten along splendidly.

  • The laugh they share at the end is priceless

  • just goes to show that sitting or standing...

Gene Kelly & Donald O'Conner were great artist... <3

  • When Gene smiles, I feel euphoric. He just has an aura of warmpth, its hard to find that in someone nowadays. *sigh*.... :)

  • What can anyone say - if you watched this through to the end - then you are a fan! These men were the best in their field. It's too bad that the field has shrunk so small! Donald and Gene - You were the best!!!!

  • 3:04

  • 16 people talked themselves right out of pictures

  • 16 people couldn't find a chair.

  • Two of the best looking men in the world!!! XOXOXO

  • @purelightink Yes!!! Love Donald!!:)))))

  • @faith4094 hes a total natural an he loves it u can tell..

  • Love the face Gene makes when Donald say "francis the mule"

  • the sad thing is that he's actually tapping, but they add extra sounds so it sounds fancier... But, to a tap dancer herself, it just sounds even less realistic ... >.>

  • I want 6:21 minutes of my life back so i can watch this again & again & again FOREVER beautiful moments to enjoy.

  • Hi SISAPIS, many thanks for your kind words. I enjoy it very much to look videos and hear music in Youtube . I've already loaded up two little movies, perhaps you've seen them. I am not trained very well in Youtube, but I have loaded hundreds of photos in Panoramio (Google Earth)

  • @Dieregenfrau Now I respect you even more, if it's possible. I add few photos to Panoramio too ) Keep it up!

  • I miss the 50's.. a lot :)

  • Beautiful! I really lived in that time, I'm 70+. Tis time never comes back. 1000 thanks to you, SISAPIS for this marvellous video!

  • @Dieregenfrau Hats off for your bravery! I admire people of your age who don't hesitate to use wonders of Internet. Please, visit my channel, you'll find more Gene Kelly rarities if you'll be patience enough. My respect to you!

  • @Dieregenfrau im only 14 but i have fallen in love with the 50s and in particular singin' in the rain and tap dancing! i feel proud being of a younger generation and loving these old treasures x

  • From 3:04 onwards it doesn't even look like their legs, they are just amazing!! I wish I had been alive in that time!!

  • I'm 15 and I really think Gene's soooo better than all the "superstars" actually.

  • What song are they singing @1:53 and what show is it from?

  • @icedance4life The song is 'I Wonder Why' from the 1953 musical starring Donald, Ethel Merman, and Vera-Ellen. It's a fabulous movie! Donald does an incredible duet with Ethel where he sings this song and she counterpoints it with another. Donald's voice is fantastic and the duet was a showstopper - they released the duet as a record. And, he does great romantic dances with Vera-Ellen in the movie, plus an incredible solo number with balloons.

  • @faith4094

Vera-Ellen is in a surprising amount of old musicals...GOOD, old musicals...her acting is decent-to-good, but not great, and her singing is, well, usually dubbed (though oddly, that's not a great measure of how well someone sings...) but her dancing is awesome.

  • @icedance4life I'm sorry! I Wonder Why is from the 1953 musical Call Me Madam - goodness - I forgot to say the name of the picture!!:)))))))))

  • @faith4094 Ah! I taped that off of TCM years ago, but I never watched it! I have to find the tape!

  • What was this from? Was it a live showpecial, taped? or something like "That's Dancing"?

  • @agmini This was a live Gene Kelly T.V. special from 1959-60.

  • @faith4094 Thanks for posting it! Is "I Wonder Why" from Call Me Madam?

  • @agmini Yes, the song was from Call Me Madam which I highly recommend.

  • I have always thought that Donald O'Conner was second to Fred Astaire and him only. While Gene Kelly did great things he always looked like he was working hard. Donald and Fred didn't.

  • @onebaud Yes, Donald was an incredible NATURAL multi-faceted talent - amazing!!

  • @onebaud I love all 3...I thought that was kind of Kelly's distinction though, that he was a bit more of an athlete/acrobat, and that he did look like he was working (And to be fair, I have a soft spot for Singin' in the Rain since it has a lot of sentimental value for me). Astaire was always debonair and cool, you wouldn't ever imagine him sweating (though I'm sure he did :-p). Donald seems the most versatile though--and the funniest. (Not to say the others weren't funny, too, sometimes.)

  • @agmini Yes, Donald was really a quintuple threat - he was an incredible dancer, a wonderful singer (much better than Fred or Kelly) and actor, a terrific comedian, and pratfall artist. Amazingly, he could do the brilliantly funny, athletic, and iconic Make 'em Laugh (He won the Golden Globe for his performance as Cosmo.) and then turn around and do a beautifully romantic and elegant dance, in tails, with Vera-Ellen (Vera-Ellen, who had danced with Fred and Kelly, said that Donald taught

  • @agmini her the sheer joy of dancing.) In 1953, he also won an Emmy Award as Best Male Star. People should try to see his early movies from 1942-44 when he was a teen idol. His comedic timing and delivery are amazing in those movies as are his early dance routines. He was incredible even then - it's understandable that he was so popular - he was so talented and adorable:)))))

  • Love it!

  • oh wow - that was AWESOME!! Thank you so much for sharing it here...

  • geez. the way they act makes me feel like i personally know them. it's magical, really.

  • anybody notice that near the end, some of the steps came from Moses Supposes? :D

  • I wish I was around when they were famous, back when movies were good and to be a star you had to have talent.

  • Is this the show that the Volkswagon commercial used to do their "leg-room" tv spot?

  • @Rambo8000 Yes!

  • Gene Kelly seems genuinely surprised when Donald O'Connor says, "you mean you wish we were Italians?" I read Donald liked to improvise. Love him.

  • love this thanks for posting .

  • @gettavid you're so damn right!!

  • Alas, Gone are the days of true and talented entertainers

  • First class entertainment. Classic!

  • I love it!:-))))

  • @gettavid Exactly, you are so right.

  • i bet jb is great at this

  • I'd like to see the number that Gene Kelly did before this number that made him tired.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan It's on youtube somewhere, too. Just look up both of their names. :)

  • @ChicagoSouthDan Look up Gene Kelly & Donald O'Connor dance medley 1960

  • Yes, I really love these guys! They´re always great!!

  • i don't like it I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

  • They're both very attractive men, so talented too. I love the car commercial with this in it.

  • OH GOD THIS IS SO INSPIRATIONAL.

  • i bet Justin Beiber cant do this!!!!"

  • @Cherrypop1912 i bet he cant do much

  • when I saw the car commercials I was sooo excited that I knew exactly where it was from and how many times Ive seen this vid online....LOVE GENE KELLY & DONALD O'CONNOR!! They had true talented ppl back then

  • this is absolutely amazing! I wish iI had been around when their movies were being made. There is little talent of this standard in hollywood anymore.

  • The 16 people that disliked this are jealous

  • funny, it didn't feel rehearsed it felt natural... it looks like they were just doing it on the fly... what happened to this kind of entertainment? what happened to this kind of performers?

  • Donald O'Connor was an amazing dancer but Gene Kelly was also an amazing dancer AND sexy as hell, and that's why Donald never became as big as Gene. I love Gene Kelly but I feel Donald is underrated and should've been given more credit!

  • @hancar A lot of us think Donald is the more charismatic, adorable, and sexy one - in addition to being an incredible talent. Check out his great romantic dances in Call Me Madam and Anything Goes and his dance with statues in There's No Business Like Show Business is a masterpiece - talk about appealing! But Donald was also a gifted comedian and did those roles, also. He was also a lot younger than Gene. When Gene made his first movie, at MGM, in 1940, he was 28. Donald was 15 at that time.

  • @hancar Donald was a big teen idol at Universal in "42, '43, '44 and he did many great routines there, at that time and after. But, Universal wasn't MGM. Donald had great success in the 50's making big movies at MGM, Fox, and Paramount, also. He was also big on T.V. at the time winning an Emmy as Best Male Star. Unfortunately, the studio system and the big musical were on the decline, so Donald wasn't able to take full advantage of it. He was also supposed to have done White Christmas, but

  • @hancar he got that sickness from Francis, the mule, and they waited months for him, but he was too weakened from the medication to do the strenous dancing - they had a release deadline to meet. So, they got Danny Kaye and got a Broadway dancer to do the difficult dancing that Donald would have done and Kaye couldn't do. He would have re-eamed with Vera-Ellen - they were magical together. Also, Donald's wonderful earlier movies weren't seen on T.V. like they should have been due to lack

  • @hancar release, legal song issues etc. Call Me Madam wasn't seen on T.V., for a long tiome, due to legal song issues. It was a huge hit when it first came out. IIt's wonderful that people are watching and loving Donald and his incredible talent. He deserves, and deserved, it.

  • When men knew how to be gentlemen

  • @mohan0128 If we wonder why most women became what they are today, maybe it's a little our fault. I don't have many examples to follow today from my generation but i try to learn form men who are from a generation different from mine :)

  • @mohan0128 Those were the days, weren't they?

  • @mohan0128 And women stayed at home.

    *Too tempting to resist

  • @skydark hey mohan0128! what r u suggesting??

  • AMAZING! one other thing..... why isnt it like this now?!?!?!

  • i have such a crush on donald o connor

  • @msprettyinpank Me, too! A lot of us do!!! Adorable, charismatic, super-talented Donald!!!!!

  • @msprettyinpank So do I! Many people think Gene's sexy. Donald's more sexy!

  • @rungirlmgg absoulty joe cool even

  • Let`s hear it for Gerry Rainbow. He is a talented guy who sure appreciates, respects and celebrates talent. I mean talent that is through the roof. What a video clip. So good. So inspiring. So joyous. Those 2 dancers should be able to come back and be able to live forever. They certainly deserve it. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

  • These guys are so awesome! Most of you have probably seen the TV commercial that borrowed a few seconds from this sequence (around 3:04): search "backseat dancer". And of course, their ageless movie that stills seems fresh today:

    "Singin' In The Rain".

  • the 15 people you disliked this are losers

  • I wonder how long they rehearsed.

  • @spikebythesea I would guess a few days at the most. These were all steps they had done many times before, many of them from Singin' in the Rain 6 years earlier. Just a guess however...

  • brilliant! they did a great job of inserting this into the VW commercial :)

  • Hmm... it would appear that 15 people were so amazed by what they just saw that they accidentally hit the dislike button...

  • I love that little Donald solo part :)

  • those were some CRAZY over-the-tops!

  • awe yes, back when dancers were straight

  • 15 people couldn't appreciate actual talent.

  • What was this from. I love it
