I like so many of your decorations...the polka dots, the stripes, the circles. They're casual and fun! I'm trying to be looser in my decoration and not worry about perfect symmetry or perfect lines. They rarely turn out they way I planned, but it's hard to let go.
P.S. This is the second video I've seen this week with ashtrays (youdanxxx was the first)! Must be a British thing?
Thanks, the decorations may look casual but I fuss over them quite a lot! The ashtray was requested by a friend, is it just a British thing? Where do you guys flick your ciggies lol?
Hi, thank you, I just mixed together several commercial earthenware underglaze pigments, then covered with a diamond clear glaze, fired to cone 05-06. They have a nice texture due to the exposed grog in my clay, they look a lot different on smooth surfaces.
It's great to see how you are evolving, a good firing with some nice glazing. One point though: I went through this same stage not so long ago and you, like me seem not to be turning your bases. Remember to get the shape right first and worry about the glazing last.
Please don't take this as a negative comment as it is great to see how fast you are improving.
Mark.
Ps. I threw away 15 mugs before Christmas because I made a huge mistake, so believe me I'm no where near perfect!
Great Mark, thanks for the tip, I appreciate that.
I'm a bit lazy with turning simply because I'm rubbish at tap centering but I will start to think more about the finished shape while the pot is still being made.
Donna, very few potters tap centre. I pop the pot down and watch to see where the pot is out and push it to correct. I use a finger as a pointer to see how far out it is. You will find a video on my channel, which i'll send you, showing a easy way to centre when you're starting out. I hope you'll find it useful.
Yes, thanks for that, Mr Leach makes it look so easy, but it seems to me to be more luck than technique, more practice required eh. Thanks for the link to your clip I'll check it out.
Funny about starting off not turning a foot, because I did the opposite! I was taught to turn a foot on every pot, so that's what I did. It took me over a year before I began to look at pots and decide which needed feet and which looked better "growing out of the table"!
well done.!!!!!!!!!

I think the fag ends here are tossed on the sidewalk or out of car windows!
