geez...besides bowie do you think maybe richard butler of psyche furs was listening to these guys.....hnnn..i think yes.........together with howard devoto and magazine , ultravox, first line-up, were the best of the bands to come from the post-punk era....inho, of course....i like wire and gaang of four too!
Definitely @mortegi ...! The verse is like Subterranean Homesick Blues (Or whatever the title by Dylan and one that REM ..paid hommage to in THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT......Speaking of age as you were... me being close enough in age to you......... had to discover that Dylan classic at an archeological site ;)
saw them live donkey's years ago - I have a feeling that not only did they have a harmonica, they also had an electric fiddle. One of the best live bands I have ever seen
ultravox! and ultravox had different singers, hence having a different sound and losing the " ! ". hard to compare the awesome sound of '77 punk and darkwave/synthpop sound. They are both good but Ultravox! wins hands down!
Its seems that having listened to albums prior to Vienna, I would be greatly dissapointed if expecting a similar sound to their later hits. I'll always be on the other side of the fence with Midge Ure and songs like "Vienna" & "Dancing with tears in my Eyes."
The sound is so different they should be known as different bands.
robodoll, Eno just produced. He did not say a word about compositions, probably he was not in the studio when they recorded...as a matter of fact you can find the PUNK writing on the sleeve of the first two albums, because of the indifference of the people for their music, they tried to attract fans whith that writing.
I heard this band when I was living in Mexico during the 80,s . their music is really great,, I cant put in words what they really mean to me in matters of music
