  • Those sounds are there propulsion motors.

  • These trains make a weird sound when they depart from the station

  • um,don't u mean R160B?

  • Oh yeah, I'm digging the newer ding-dong door sound then the old one. The sound is quicker and not as annoying as the old biiiinnngg-boooonnng.

  • I love the old sound!

  • I actually rode on one of these when I was on an N train to Queenboro plaza so I could switch to the 7. But yeah, EASILY the nicest subways cars I have ever seen.

  • Whats the difference between the R160A and B?

  • R160A is built by Alstom and the R160B is built by Kawasaki.

  • and don't forget the propulsion systems. (The Onix and Siemens)

  • Thats not really an important factor. All the R160As and the R160Bs from 8713 to 8842 all have Alstom Onix propulsion and then the R160Bs from 8843 to 8972 will have Siemens Propulsion.

The only difference between the R160As and R160Bs is just the builders. With the R160Bs, the difference is the propulsion package.
