  • 1978 Ford Fiesta 46 MPG, 2012 Ford Fiesta 40 MPG - WTH?

  • @Savvyjen7 Weight. the old car was pretty much made of tin foil

  • it was built in Valencia, Spain, not Germany.

  • @GottfriedvonCramm I didn't know that until now, but you're absolutely right!

  • Ford Fiesta was built in two factories: Valencia, Spain and Cologne, Germany.

  • the transmission on the 1976-1983 Ford Fiesta

    Transmission

    Ford BC4 4-speed manual gearbox

  • Fiesta's performance in one word. UNDERSTEER!!!

  • its german..they can turn a wheelchair in2 a killing machine.

  • now that's a chick magnet car

  • Now there a car that combines dramatic performance with excellent gasoline economy that won't catch on fire when you get hit from behind this time around.

  • even mk1 fiesta are safer than exploding pinto but rear passenger will supper serious injury if being rear ended, there will be no fuel leak since the fuel tank was ahead of the rear axle as many modern car do. fuel tank between bumper and rear axle are design defect which can cause it to rupture in case of rear-ended

  • 30 years after sales ceased in north america, the mark 6 comes back as 2011 fiesta in USA, build in mexico. before production in mexico started, it was imported from europe for test drive which prompted ford to start assembling it at mexico as many buyer looking for it

  • I recall the US had this with the 1.6L unit - likely to cope with the Emission controls.

One thing this car did not have in its original form was automatic transmission - which was surprising as the Mini could be had in auto form in the 1960s. I believe an auto Fiesta was not offered in Europe until 1987.

  • you're telling me an american could fit into a MK1 fiesta... right

  • @mexicodriver You are also an american, Mexico is in America you stupid twat...

  • @choforito4000 i think you'll find i'm named after the FORD ESCORT MEXICO which won the London to Mexico rally, because I used to own one. Now who's the twat?

  • @mexicodriver You are still a complete twat, because you can't differentiate between a country and a continent...

  • @choforito4000 seriously, get a life, arguing on the internet- o n youtube to be precise- is probably the faggiest thing you can do. leave the house for once. find some friends. douchebag

  • @mexicodriver u mad?

  • the 1976-1983 Ford Fiesta was assembled in

    Almussafes, Spain

    Dagenham, United Kingdom

    Cologne, Saarlouis, Germany

  • @Annihilator1111 and in mexico for the US

  • @jason123456789210 oh cheers for the extra info i just found it from wikipedia lol not 100% true from wikipedia sometimes lol

  • @jason123456789210 This original Fiesta came from Europe only...

  • My dad had a 1980 S model. He ran off the road at 55 mph and landed on a sewer tank cover bigger than the car by three times. Damage? Two bent front rims and a scuff on the engine pan cradle. It was a great driving car. It did have a radio mounted too low, but other than that it was fine.

  • The original Fiesta was too good for it's own sake(even with it's OHV Kent 4 cyl.), but just like the Cortina in the late 60's and the Capri in the early-mid 70's, Ford USA wouldn't stand 100% behind it's European product. Such a shame because these imports were miles ahead of what Dearborn offered as subcompacts. The Fiesta was light years better than the Chevette, Pinto, Vega and the subsequent Escort, but poor dealer support by Ford doomed it from the start.....

  • i like the music

  • i got myself a ford fiesta xr2 1987 :) only went 36k miles :)

  • Ford should have NEVER DISCONTINUED THIS CAR FOR THE US MARKET. SURE, THE ESCORT WAS A LITTLE BIT BIGGER, BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SMALL CAR FOR CUSTOMERS. I'M GLAD THAT THE FIESTA IS COMING BACK TO THE US, BUT FORD LOST A LOT OF MONEY BY NOT HAVING THIS CAR HERE ALL THIS TIME.

  • @carwrtr1 I recall they came up with a few substitutes in the 1990s - both happened to be rebadged Kias...

  • @joh2 Thats a festiva

  • Wow, so the OPEC oil embargo crisis hit in 1973 and it took Ford a full 5 years to bring this car to the states. Now that's quick thinking.

  • @SlickvicOTC nope it was sold here in 76 77 and 78 then the escort came out and they stopped importing the fiesta witch i think was a huge mistake this car was awesome and i am hoping to find one today but i want a 76 model

my dad got one in 76 and crashed it when it had 176k miles on it

  • @dexter2433 Actually, it was available in the US from 1977-1980 model years. Ford decided to drop it after only 3 years of sales because they were worried about being fined for not meeting C.A.F.E. fuel requirements. The UAW union also helped its departure.

The Mk 1 Fiesta was a GREAT car! I love mine.

  • @guitartec the fiesta was sold in the us so that they would not be fined for not meeting the C.A.F.E fuel requirements and was no longer sold in the usa because the escort was coming out and they did not want the fiesta to be sold in the usa to begin with

but the release of the escort was not ready in time so as a last resorted they shipped over the fiesta so that thay could meet the C.A.F.E. fuel requirements until the escort was ready

the fiesta in 1978 got 42mpg in the usa on the highway

  • @guitartec and yes i was wrong on the years before it was 78 79 80 mod fiesta that was sold in the usa but it was only the 1600cc ver here

we has a 78 and it was a fast little car and well made for the time

  • @dexter2433 Check out the last file in the "Files" section of this Fiesta user group for info on the demise of the US MK1 Fiesta

  • I learned to drive in one of these. Ours got26MPG city, 40MPG highway. It was VERY loud at full throttle while accelerating and the front suspension would easily bottom out. Also, it had by FAR the most brake fade of any car I've ever driven. Other than that it was really good. Good visibility, very roomy, AC worked well, and good acceleration.

  • Looking at the Mk 1 and the current Fiesta they couldn't be so different! Guess that's 33 years of evolution for you....

  • Well it's coming back again I guess we'll see how it does this time around. I like and own a Festiva though
