Why is it that some absolutely brilliant songs like this were not mega -hits ? ... lack of airplay ? ... lack of taste by the general music buying public ? ... Whatever it is, it's a bloody shame ... Wayne
@wmw2525 Hi , from what I remember, they (NZ Radio Stations) were only aloud to play xyz, approx and up to 10% of NZ music at the time. Australia and Canada had the same issues, although they got to 20% well before us.. They called it here in NZ , the NZ music quota and a bill was passed..And it sucked for not only the artist but for the fans. . It's also called.... ce la vie. I agree with you're frustration and it's an on-going battle for our fab muso's, bands and artists.
Just saw jordan and his band do this at the Cloud before the France wales game, it was amazing it is also his 50th birthday today 15th Oct. What a band just thinking of the number of times I played this on the radio.
@bidgeums You're kidding he's 50! I've re-adjusted my zimmer frame as a result, fallen backwards and now I'm recovering and sitting upright after knowing this fact and after having a chat to my kitchen linoleoum about about. :-)
Heh this song plays when you're on hold with WINZ (: I luv New Zealand music, i luv my little world there too. *sigh* just want to be wondering the botanical gardens (now open after the quake btw, so go be tranquil!) but i'm in aus for another few days. Peace luv harmony (luv u NZ)
Heard this on Hauraki in the car a few days ago. Took only a quick search to find it. Awesome song. @ thisisthesledge you're totally right bro! you missed the light a joint part though :) Kia ora.
This takes me way back, was at Victoria House in Wellington and we had a 'disco' (as they did in the olden days), and the whole crowd just went off when this song was played. Great song and great memories, thanks for posting the song
Best Kiwi Track ever IMO. Though the version on Amplifier (The Album) is a tad slower (almost always a good thing) and far better produced.
Bloody awesome. After a hard day's yakka, come home put the kids to bed and sit in the lounge drinking a few cold speights, stick this on and transport back 20 years and 12000mile in time x space.
when i was about 10 my old mans best mate had the DB taven in timaru
on sunday they would all get drunk and let me and my brother and the kids go and get chip and drinks from behind the bar and my dad would give me money for the D/box and i would play this song all the time ,time flys a
Don't get too nostalgic about 'Luck and co' and the whole 'doing it all for Kiwi music' thing.
The 'Exponents', eventually moved overseas and would cynically come 'home' for a quick revenue raising tour, so they could take off again and support their 'rock 'n roll' lifestyle abroad.
what's wrong with that? is really it cynical or just pragmatic? They were trying to break overseas, but generally only managed to attract x-pat kiwis to their gigs.
I used to live in NZ - as a Pommy idiot I will never forget an entire packed bar singing along to I'll Say Goodbye word for word. I see your point though mate. They never made it in UK/America because those countries have no f*cking taste!
jordan u rock. the internet has destroyed live music as entertainment, as a result we dont get these quality pub bands playing 5 nights a week anymore, insted we have to pay 100 dollars to see a band from overseas who were popular 20 years ago play vector arena. RIP NZ MUSIC
yep and pub bands were the best around forget the music industry there is none a myth while great bands like the exponents struggled to get heard well shows you how big they were in nz anyway ive never met a kiwi who didnt know them thats says something when your a household word
I actually heard a story that the older guy/customer/John (whatever the term is)was a taxi driver who agreed to let Jordan Luck play the driver when he was allowed to "star" in a Pop video. He was only approached on the street on the night the video was made. Oh how times have changed.

Some songs ( great songs) always stick in the mind like this one.
I've never forgotten this song especially the lead guitar at the start of the song, high up the neck with great phrasing.

I guess big city NZ in the early 1980s would resemble Timaru on a Tuesday night.

badhorsy2003 3 years ago
I can assure you Christchurch is a provincial city of the lost whose current population is composed mainly of skinheads and asians.
boobsmurder 3 years ago
It's been a few years since I lived there but I have to say that whole skinhead thing is a dirty myth.
The NZ press cooked it up when somebody realised there weren't any firebug Rastas in Ruatoria.
