Im no Angel, but thanks ;) to answer your question...lye is caustic. so it is dangerous, the fumes can burn your nasal passages or your throat if you suck it in...but it is necessary to make soap. but it isn't in the final bar. it disipates, so it doesn't really have any property other than it made your oils into soap.
