  • my fav color is kuro

  • Phew this is a bit hard but im not giving up!!! >:3 "Wadashi wa ga suki shiro" i think i said that right XD

  • what the characters above??

  • orange="daidai iro". but it gradually goes out of use in japan.

"iro" means "color". "iro" is often used for words having many homonym.

  • not so hard but not so easy

  • chiro is brown

  • so sorry to bother you, but you wouldn't happen to have a video that explains the difference between things like "kun" or "chan" would you? A girls keeps calling me something like that and I don't understand what it means!

  • @Gamefinder143 -kun is a suffix used by guys older then you or sued by anyone addressing to male children or teenagers, OR girls to guys who are emotionally attached.

-chan is usually used to kid's given names which carries feeling of meaning of "cute" to the people or animal used on

  • Is it alright if I say "Ao wa ga suki"?

  • @amarijane You don't use "wa" with "ga" and "ga" goes with "suki." So: ao ga suki.

  • @thejapanshop or watashi wa ao ga suki desu :)

  • with english translation it would make more sence

  • with english translation it would make more sence

  • OOOOOREENNNJIII!

  • subtitles for english would be nice LMAO

  • isnt aoi ''sky'' aswell ?

  • @TheWeeaboo Sky is "sora" but you may be thinking of "青空 aozora" meaning "clear blue skies--ao = blue + sora (sky the "s" changes to a "z" sound.)

  • @thejapanshop konnichiwa!! arigato for uploading these videos im studying japanese and ive found ur videos quite helpful thx u!!!!! its funny on guitar hero theres a girl name midori.....HER NAME MEANS GREEN >:D

  • @Itachi5442 Thank you! It is like Mr. or Mrs. Green. :) The girl's name Midori is usually written with the kanji meaning, "green" but it could have other meanings.

  • lol blue sounds like "ow"

  • whats the "Cha iro, 茶色" color? couse it looks redish...

  • @JakuBtwo Sorry for the bad color in the video, but "chairo" (literally, "tea color") is a light brown color.

  • For the colour Orange, it's Orenji. Dai dai iro is a pretty old word now and isn't often used.

  • Orange was just so unexpected.

  • Blue is aoi. Just look up the naruto shippuden opening blue bird or the Darker Than Black first ending, it clearly says aoi.

  • @SesshyPwnsTheWorld Aoi is the adjective form, Ao is the Colour.

  • @khorne131313 oh o3o now i know...

  • @SesshyPwnsTheWorld and its clearly talking about the sky.

  • @TheWeeaboo yeah, good job pointing out the obvious there XD

  • @SesshyPwnsTheWorld thats why we are talking about ''clear'' things : ) And besides i wasnt even sure because i dont speak japanese so actually just no

  • @TheWeeaboo i have no idea what we are talking about ._.

  • I had forgotten to add that "Pinku" is taught as "Momo" as well. Just like the others.

  • Most children in my area, including my own, don't say "Orenji" for Orange. We all say "Dai Dai". For Grey we would say, "Nezumi". They don't teach you that in America but this is very usual for the Japanese.

  • i got confused in the reapeting part

  • Orange scared me in the end

  • Not just オレンジ(orenji / orange) but olso 橙色(だいだい いろ / daidai iro) means orange

  • @SEMILEED Only old people say 橙色。This generation simply loves カタカナ英語, so 橙色 would be too traditional, despite the fact that I like it :(

  • Is orange 橙色(daidai iro)?

  • @sporestruck09

    Hiro(広)shima(島)

    広=large

    島=island

  • I just realized that Hiroshima means:

    COLOR ISLAND!!! :DD

Doesn't it sound like such a happy place?

  • @sporestruck09 cool! it sounds like the happiest place

  • I thought "Hiro" mean Hero???

  • i thought you could say "haku" as white

  • Hmm...I think I'll easily remember the orange one - orenji. I'm learning! :D YAY :D

  • shi ni 4 2

  • What's that shit on top of the character? Looks like this lifetime I never learn Japanese language. I hope they don't use me for bayonet practice.

  • how do you say orange?

  • @808curlyfries808

    orange=orenji=オレンジ

it's just pronounced differently and where you put an accent is bit different.

but other than that it is same, orange!

orenji is pronouced in the end of this clip.

  • @musicommunication thanx :)

  • japanese most important colours are:

shiro = white; kuro = black; chairo = brown; aka = red; ao = blue; kiiro = yellow; orenji = orange; murasaki = violet; midori = green; gurei = gray; pinku = pink; gin (ghin) = silver; kin = gold.

    hiro = colour.

what colour is this? = kore wa nani hiro desu ka? it's black = kuro desu.

i have a black bag = watashi wa kuro(i) baggu motteimasu.

  • @ricknoir i thought pink in japanese is called "momoiro" isnt it? (o.O?)

  • @ricknoir well actually violet is Baioretto (バイオレット) and purple is murasaki (紫)

  • isn't 'Shi' white? not 'Shiro'?

  • @Vocaloid0Fan SHI can mean many things, but I am not aware of "white" as being one of them.

  • @Vocaloid0Fan Actually, the word "Shi" means 4 it can also be "Yon" for old Japanese "Yo"

  • Some of these are chinese xO

  • What's the Japanese term for PURPLE?

because ... PURPLE ga suki! :DD

  • @JiHyePark14 murasaki 紫

  • @JiHyePark14 murasaki

  • @xNekoOtaku thanks! :)

  • Y'know purple how would that be an adgective as it already has a 'i' at the end would it be Murasakii?

  • Ah sorry, completely off topic, but, is there any other ways to say pumpkin in Japanese other than kabocha?

  • Murasaki ga suki desu! :)

  • dude ur brown is red. but otherwise awesome lesson.

  • i hate being color blind

  • @8bitPikachu lol

  • What color is 0:29 is that pink, violet, purple?? I suggest writing the English word as well.

  • @sonicsnumber1 It's suppose to be purple.

  • What color is 0:29 is that pink, violet, purple??

  • orenji?

  • Comment removed

  • ao neko ga suki desu ^_^~

  • @FalseStrawberry You like blue cats?

  • @SkyCiie I like blue cats a lot! ^^

  • midori ga suki desu...XD

  • is kuro black or grey??

  • @jorgecoolman black

  • @ thejapanshop so if i were to use murasaki as an adjective it isn't necessary to add an "i" right??

  • whats midori? its looks like red but aka is red right? help plzz XD

  • @morpheus9494 midori is green

  • @LoverdeLanguage oops i put midori XD i mean cha iro

  • @morpheus9494 midori is green, and aka is red

  • what about pinku and haiiro???

  • No purple?

  • uhmm.. what about the other colors that already ends in " i " what will be the adjective form of it? will it be double " i " or just leave as it is?

  • oh so cha iro is brown. the picture looks red so i was confused a little there

  • Hai!Thank you very much for the video!! I have two questions! Is it wrong to say "watashi ao ga suki desu." ? And : "anata ao ga suki desu ka?" ?

    Arigatou! :3

  • is murasaki pink or purple?? :/

  • @brynjoy purple

  • cool so it doesnt matter the color if i just add an i in the end i automatic changes into an adjective??

i other words red in adjective form would be Akai?

    blkue aoi

    yellow ki iroi?

and what about green it already ends in an i how do u change that into an adjective?

  • @OrquestaSonDelPuerto Yeah you are right. just add an -i. and for midori (green), you can ad 'no の' instead of 'i い'.

    green 緑 みどり midori

green car 緑の車 みどりのくるま midorino kuruma

  • lol the orange at the end was really cute.

@thejapanshop , what about the colors which already end in i? such as "midori" and "mursaki"

  • orange is dai-dai iro

  • ...... wow I couldn't follow the announcer

  • 茶色 litterly means Tea Color which is - often - brown

  • Why is orange said like the english way but the other colours aren't?

  • @angelofsouls124 orange got other name which is 橙 (だいだい|daidai)

& there is some other colors name people often right it in katakana like ピンク = pink :)

  • @mdbr2

    oh.

    thanks for clearing that up

  • @angelofsouls124 Japan has a lot of english words from the time when England tried to take over Japan. They also use some Dutch and French words

  • The last Orange was fun! Thanks for making this :D

  • thanks for the video ^_^

  • So,the Hiragana for black is <3? LOL

  • 茶色はちょとへんです。

  • 変ではありません。

  • what does Densetsu means??

  • densetsu(伝説) means legend

  • yeah,i'm studying japanese on saturdays and sundays :)

  • @ 0:38 what color is this?

  • Brown--sorry, I know that color is a little off. You can also pull down the "More information" to see the names.

  • @thejapanshop Is it common in Japan to write the colours in katakana? I mean:

    イェロー instead of 黄色?

    グリーン instead of 緑?

    (etc.)

  • whats the best way to learn without taking classes or lessons ive been reseaching a few language's and started to learn the basic's but im not the best at remembering all the info (like japanese seems like very Weird in the way things are used like they do (i Bread Eat) that i have a hard time understanding the way things are used

  • uhh orange is spelled wrong.

    isn't it orenji?

  • Chairo is light brown. o:

  • whats with chairo looking like its red?

    Chairo is brown, I beleive.

  • the words are wrong.

    Blue:Aoi

    Red:Akai

    Yellow:Kiiro

    Pink:Pinku

    Black:Kuroi

    Green:Midori

    White:Shiroi

    Orange:orengiro or orenji

  • No, it is correct. The noun forms are listed.

    ao (noun)

    aoi (adjective form)

    青が好きです。

    ao ga suki desu.

    I like blue.

    青い車が好きです。

    aoi kuruma ga suki desu.

    I like blue cars.

I'll add this to the description.

  • @thejapanshop: Seeing as you know Japanese could you help me translate this. Does 'ore wa anata ga suki janai' = I don't like you?

  • Yes.

  • @thejapanshop: How do you make those Japanese letters in the comments?

  • @thejapanshop would u add "i" at the end of every color that is an adjective or just blue? and how do you pronounce "aoi"

  • @aliedesuacido Yes, the -i is the adjectival form. "ao" alone is "blue" (noun).

  • @thejapanshop soo if u say the car is red would it be akai?

  • @aliedesuacido Yes, when it is used as an adjective:

    ao (noun)

    aoi (adjective form)

    青が好きです。

    ao ga suki desu.

    I like blue.

    青い車が好きです。

    aoi kuruma ga suki desu.

    I like blue cars.

  • @aliedesuacido it's like Ah-Oh-EE

  • @aliedesuacido "ow" would be the sound you ever heard of that tall basketball player call Yaoi Ming? His name is pronounced the same "aoi"

  • the fourth one looks more puple than pink to me...

  • In the description it says Murasaki is purple

  • i know it was @eternalxBlack who said it was pink and ui spelt purple wrong ^_^"

  • pink can also be momoiro

  • hahaha oh-ran-ji XD lol that made me think of the Vocaloids when Rin and Len were trying to show off their english skills to Luka haha

  • If i uderstend it righ the name for orange was imported from europien languages?

  • black is kuroi when talking about something being black, for example kuroi torikago (song title by kanon wakeshima, meaning black birdcage)

but if it is simply the colour black it's kuro

same with the other colours, as far as I have understood the concept =D

should be the same with words like chisai, meaning small, which becomes chisaii when for example describing a person.

But I really don't know if I got it right xD

  • correct me if im wrong but i thought black was kuroi, blue was aoi, red was akai and white was shiroi

  • las letras grandes del medio es chino no japones...

is you don´t understand me.. use the traductor my english is very bad.. i´m sorry.. u_U

  • isant ther any pink in Japanese?

  • lol this was a month ago XD i dont know what i was thinking XD

  • Thankkkssss!!!!! <3

    U saved my life! xDDD

  • yes its brown probably an accident

  • kuro-chan

    shiro-chan

    aka daisuki desu......

  • oh i didnt no that thanks

  • isnt blue aoi not ao

  • Actually it is both. "ao" is blue and "aoi" is blue as an adjective.

  • Isn't Aoi? just ao? <3

  • Japanese is hard :S but I would love to learn it and I will as much as I can xD

    Love Japan!

  • And what's orange? Just orengi?

  • Daidai-iro (橙色) is the Japanese name for orange. Orenji is very common though.

Daidai is a variety of bitter orange. It's often placed on top of mochi, called kagami mochi, in New Year celebrations.

  • what is orange, is it just orange?

  • orenji

  • im confused...

    is murasaki purple..or pink?

    and what is chairo? aha

  • murasaki = purple

chairo (cha iro = tea color) = brown

  • Yeah, and momoiro is pink. ^^

  • now how do you say favorite......

  • Murasaki ga suki desu ^^

  • Murasaki ga suki means I like purple but what does desu stand for? ^^

  • desu means that the sentence you just said is positive, dewaarimasen is negative.

    deshita is positive [past]

    dewaarimasen deshita is negative [past]

  • Mine too! [Anyone know how to say that in Japanese? XD]

  • OMG!!!that's why my "title" it the "Noble Green" Takashi Midorri. meh...I have a few words for whoever named me.

  • What is the relationship between the center symbols andthe japanese text above it?

  • The Japanese text on top of the kanji is called "hiragana". It helps with the pronunciation of kanji. :3

  • すごい !!!!

  • i wonder how u write orange n japanese

  • Comment removed
