THEN, he can cuff the driver. That way he is restrained and no longer a physical threat, and the officer can then deal with each individual ONE BY ONE.without worrying about being jumped by all of them at once. They train the officers to keep everyone seperated by as much distance as possible.
@emjee I've watched the video again and one can clearly see that the officer is alone and has THREE suspects pulled over. The first guy that was out of the car should have been cuffed and then the other two as soon as possible. This may be "another story" but if wallstreet and large corperations would allow the wealth to be spread around a little more justified, maybe the desperation to earn a living wouldn't be so extreme. But as someone who's worked in Law Enforcement, I can say that the whole situation could have been avoided had the officer followed better procedure. You just don't search a car by yourself with three loose suspects surrounding you. You take them out one at a time, detain them, pat them down for weapons, then search the car (with backup if possible).

@emjee I've watched the video again and one can clearly see that the officer is alone and has THREE suspects pulled over. The first guy that was out of the car should have been cuffed and then the other two as soon as possible. This may be "another story" but if wallstreet and large corperations would allow the wealth to be spread around a little more justified, maybe the desperation to earn a living wouldn't be so extreme. But I guess that would be a perfect world.

@Biostech2008 Not true at all, treating people poorly has resulted in the hatred with police and more problems there in, this video is unfortunate as he was old school and treating the suspects like humans, more often than not, that will leave you with a postitive result not resulting in future hatred or on scene problems, now with that said the main problem with this Is America's Draconian Drug policies, IF they did not exist, this never would have happened :)

Sick scumbags. Stupid too. Instead of spending a few years in prison for trafficking, they now face life sentences.
But as someone who's worked in Law Enforcement, I can say that the whole situation could have been avoided had the officer followed better procedure. You just don't search a car by yourself with three loose suspects surrounding you. You take them out one at a time, detain them, pat them down for weapons, then search the car (with backup if possible).

Police are the highest standard when it comes to having to both protect and kill. Unlike soldiers in a war, police cannot fire indiscriminitely and there's a court system watching their every move. If innocent people die then people are held accountable. War is a completely different animal where many innocents die. That's why you only commit to war as a last resort.

While suspicious it is not enough to warrant pulling your gun. You only pull out your firearm when there is no other option but deadly force.
