Dolly herself has said that Porter wasn't trying to be rude when he'd do this- but this was a live show and they simply ran out of time so he had no choice but to cut her off in mid-song! They both were professionals and rolled with it without any ill feelings (and they definitely reconsiled their differences before his death)! Anyway, thanks for posting!

This episode reminds me of Sophia Tucker who made a living rhyming and singing mixing poetry and notes. It is said she had a grandaughter with the same talent. I love how she is singing and trying to figure out what the director and Porter is motioning to her. I saw a interview with her and Porter and she was laughing about this clip saying they were motioning for her to cut it short but she didn't understand so Porter stepped in.

I remember watching this show and how mad I got about it. The musicians always tried to play louder when she sang and I think Porter was jealous of her talent. He treated her like a hired hand and she became the star. Boy did she ever! The single greatest singer/songwriter ever.

Dolly far out shined Wagner over the years. Some of her comments on him were hilarious. She is an idol and he was just a clown. She blazed a lot of trails for women in country music and in the industry. I saw her on an early tour with Wagner and he failed to show that night so she did the show without him. He wasn't missed. Rumor was that he was drunk. She wasn't and really did a great job.
