Guys thanks for the great video.I am 52 and never really exercised.I bought one of these model D like new condition at the first of the month. So far after about 2 days of easing into it I have rowed 5 K everyday Pace about 2.35& 24 SPM.It has been 17 days now .My best is 24.50 feeling better and stronger every day
I hope it gets easier but I have to say I look forward to it every single day.You guys are animals .I will try a 500 meter sprint soon.If it is true one of you were in R&D
Yes being tall definitely helps. Your stroke us longer so with each stroke you row further, which makes your time faster. Much fitter smaller people can be faster though!
@petercarvell Being tall finally has its advantages. I am tired of training with weight and having to mix it up with cardio. This exercise is made for my body. Good for the arms and legs. I am going to do this, swim, and elliptical to get strong and leaner. I don't believe in running (Bad for the knees) but if I have in order to cut weight I will. I think you are right, this exercise is more centered to taller people. I am 6'0-6'1 208 pounds, I need to get to 195 in a month or so.
longer, harder ergos will defonately improve ur fitness hardbipi4, no point doing these 500 m ergos.... inless ur having a bit of fun :) half hours and 5k's should help ur fitness. oh and throw in a couple of 2k's they may start to be good after a while, but smoking will defonately affect ur fitness.
from my experience its a great way to get in shape. i walked onto a college team and lost 20ish pounds over the course of a few months. And that was on top of being fairly fit in highschool (football and basketball all four years). once you get the technique down, the fitness comes faster, but learning to engage the right muscles is probably the hardest part of rowing in general.
@hardbipi4 my biggest advice: do not return to smoking - I know something about it, belive me - that is why I quit almost year (11 months) ago ;) and make notes about times and distances every time You decide to row - it helps IMHO.
@petercarvell You said something that is bothering me most. Height helps doesn't it? I wonder how much... For example: I cannot catch my friend who is 6'4" (1:30/500m). I can ~1:34/500 for now, but I'm only 5'10" We have similar cardio condition I think... What do You think about it?
@JubasAndrzej the best i hvae ever done is around 1:34 and im almost exactly ur height. that is a very respectable time. if you want to try something fun, see what your maximum burst power is. I can get it down to 1:20/500m sprint speed. and maintaint around taht for about 20 -30 seconds ofc then im burnt out. actually i may have hit 1:19s/500m pace.
Just a btw, people who are training for just 500's doesn't do you much good. it's too short of a sprint to get much out of it. A 2000 meter race is a technical sprint in rowing. These guys were just having fun :] If you wana improve scores, try a 1000 first and improve that. You'll see better results over a longer period of time.
Thanks Guys, you inspired me to try this..I have been a casual erger at my gym easy 30min to 60. I did my first try at 1:49, but the front of machine was lifting off ground alot, I always keep damper at 10, should I change this or bolt down machine? I am not ready to do 2000, but would like to train to I am 47 and ergin is the only thing that challenges me like running used to. Any advice on training is greatly appreciated.
TO all you guys knocking these guys...the one in the blue shirt is my cousin...one of the designers of the machine. You wouldn't even have anything to row if it wasn;t for him so SHUT UP!!!!! Show a little respect. Laura
The one in the aqua shirt...Peter Dreissigacker. I am Laura Dreissigacker. I think he will read this and you have offically thanked him yourself then! I have no idea on the world record question. Thanks for te reply. Laura
They have to set their drag factor, the harder you pull, the higher the resistance is to compensate. It's fair, everyone's drag factor is set to a number like 140 or 110.
You might want to get that on video and send it to concept 2 because it would be the 5th best time in the world. LOL sounds like a bunch of bs to me. LOL Let me know if you post it on youtube.
@calgan88 well if your not talking shit. then you are .1 second of the world record which is at 1:15.9. i seriously doubt all of these people who say they are below 1;20, if its the truth. im amazed.
Did the guy in the black shirt win? He had a high drag and was not coiling as much. I like high drag for sprints but coil more, so I tried it his way and did almost as good. Interesting....

You may be only 4 seconds slower than me on the erg, but on the water it would be about 60 seconds per 2k

I did 2.08 on my first go...
Clearly its no good I guess... but I am working out to bur fat and loose about 8 kilos in 2 months.
I used to be very fit 5 years ago but since then havnt worked out at all and have been smoking (which I quit 3 weeks ago)
Can someone please advise if Indoor Rowing would do any good to me???
Except that I use cycling, treadmill, ellipticle and few express lane weight for different parts :) and situps too..
Any advise would be appretiated :)
Cheers
