@ZoeJeffreys Hello. I´m a swedish guy, trying to learn how to pronounce "llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch". I´m practicing very hard, and i´m getting there. I think you´re a very sweet looking girl. Best wishes to you, from Larz in Sweden.
Hey, I got it right! How to say your name. I'm no great singer and up in years, but do stuff for kids in my family. You can see I posted a video with two Welsh songs, hope this Yankee gringo's pronunciation isn't too dreadful. In the intro I say the mile-long name of the town, how I learned to say it (almost), & how to find you on YT. Thanks again!
Speaking of pronunciation, Zoe, in my video I hope I am saying your name right!!! Either rhymes with "no way" or "go see." Huh? Our late comedian Steve Allen once said, "If the people in Wales speak Welsh, how come the people in Belgium don't speak Belch?" Old joke, you've probably heard it.
I love the welsh accent, my family is from the valleys and have you noticed that everybody round there is very dark skinned? Iam myself. great video zoe!
Haha I was wondering what the person who made this up was thinking at the time! My sister can say it but I can't ): You sound like your from Llanelli or Neath :) I was born in Llanelli but I live in Swansea :)
@Myles0Harcourt I'd like to. I went through my entire childhood and most of my early teenage years on this island without knowing that there were native languages and people that were here long before English was. Isn't that fucked up?
using the English alphabet there is actually 58 letters. using the Welsh alphabet there is 51. We use "ch" and ''ll" as single letters. So I guess the way you look at it depends on whether you speak Welsh or English =] btw i live in Blackwood near Caerphilly not far from Neath. Hi =D
THANK YOU! Once learned to say the name, forgot, been trying to find for years. Maybe YT? Yeah, but lots of sillies, no one breaking down for slow-learning types like me. Great line by Peter Sellers playing dentist in Bob Hope movie: "Have that tooth out before you can say 'Llanfair...'" But what movie? Want to ask you, how's his accent? Hey, ZJ, you sing? Maybe post "Llwyn onn" for me?
Are you kidding? Have you heard some "singers" on YouTube? Your speaking voice says you can sing. Yes, Ash Grove, "Yn mhalas Llwyn Onn gynt fe drigai pendefig...". Guy named Bryn taught it to me in L.A. piano bar way back. Found Bob Hope movie on IMDb: Road to Hong Kong (1962), Sellers uncredited (!), but funniest part of whole film, neurologist not dentist.
Oh yeah, it's hard to believe! I can bloody near say that village name, thanks to you, teacher. You sing any song, your pick. I'm old enough to be your grandfather's grandfather, likely don't have one song in common. You just do it with heart, no kidding around, because your inborn warmth and generosity will come through. OK, one song I KNOW you could electrify our socks with, "Don't Cry for Me Argentina."
That's a long name... I can pronounce the double L since I speak afrikaans and it's a similar sound. I'm not going to try though I have a sore throat lol. Nice video though.
@ZoeJeffreys alot of aussie's call them sepo's which is short for septic tank meaning their full of shit! i didnt make that up it's just some stupid slang that has been made up I havnt heard the term for a long time now! Sorry for any offence.
I went to this lovely train station back in '04 with a group of fellow students from America known as the Student Ambassadors, absolutely loved England, Ireland, and Wales (stayed for 3.5 weeks) and this was one of the nicer places and towns we had gone in my opinion...
One question I must pose to you however, why must the Welch seemingly hate us Americans, I almost got into AT LEAST 5-6 fights the week I was there, all for me being American, has a minor group of them screwed it up that much?
See i always thought that it was english people who had more of a problem with americans .. i find americans to have a good sense of humour .. in fact i would love to move to new york .. i have no problem with americans nor do my friends and family .. if that was the case though id put it down to the war and the fact that the british prime minister and the president are sending troops to war simply to determine whose left .. stereotyping really but im sorry you experienced that x
@ZoeJeffreys That is very very likely now that I think of it actually, especially including the year I was there being so close to when the war started... Its really a pointless war to begin with, not to mention we are stealing people from other countries to help us...
However while I was in Wales (Staying a Bangor Uni actually) me and some of the others played a twisted form of Rugby/American Football with some locals, and that was exciting and fun.
I've officially changed what I think is the most weird language from Russian & all Asian languages to Welsh, and it uses letters instead of symbols! Such odd pronunciations. I can't train myself to say even 1/4th of that word. I'll stick to my American English, thank you. lmao. I can barely understand when you're speaking normally, no offence.
Well that's a great question! But never the less it makes no proper sense, why wouldn't I be looking at things I believe fail at life? I dunno 'bout llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch but people from other parts of the world use to refer to that as entertainment.
