Probably the best perfomance I ever seen and my expectations were skyhigh after their legendary live album.I saw them in Stockholm in the 90s - rain was pouring but nobody cared about that because the consert was so outstanding.
Hey I'm a white female drummer that learned how to play from black drummers. Funk knows no color! Wish I'd seen them at Clemson. S.C. is my home state.
Color has little to do with talent. If you learned from drumming heros you did well. Check the pistol from the Motown band The Funk Brothers. No one was better.
I saw them in the late 70's at Clemson they were on before ZZ Top I went out and bought their album. What is funny to me is a white boy is the drummer.
@wileycoyoteengineer Beside the fact that MF has always been a mixed band, (the main guitarplayer is Caucasian just like the drummer) music knows no colour, only hearts and souls are important, and thank god our hearts and souls are all the same colour.
they are playing in Atlanta(home town) this Sat night 9-17. Lost track of them for 20 years! Used to work at Master sound recording studio back in the mid 80's and partied with them all. Many a late night with the gang!!! May just have to drop by Sat night and say HI !!!!. Can't wait to see them again!!!! They were regulars at Alex Cooleys Electric Ballroom in the late 70"s
First saw these guys at ECU circa 1983. Wonderful then, wonderful now. Would have given anything NOT to have missed them this year (2011) yes, including "left nut". None-the-less, I did so. However, these VDs bridge the gap a lot so, I'm not feeling "totally" left out. Vibrancy is _still there_ after all these years!!! Go MF!!! :)
This is one of my fav's by them. I heard this and I was like where has their music been my whole life. Joyce Kennedy got that Chaka flavor. This song is funk rock baby yeah!! I always said I would cover this song, but vocally it's a hard song to sing.
Check out my page. I'm a chica bring that funk rock flavor. Ya'll not ready...
@jbelle2008 Sorry for this late reaction, but why bother about these 10 dislikes while there are so many people (and I am one of them) that clearly love MF? I got so many great memories of their music that MF could easily fill up my schoolgirl diary of those days.
And now that I am thinking of myself as a grown up woman I can't get enough of MF and I am considering myself a very lucky Dutch lady to know, and to grew up with this great music.
I love Mother's Finest! My mom and dad had this album back in the day and I would listen to the entire album. Rock on Joyce! Go girl! Never go out of style. Hall of fame music forever!! (smile)
Just found this song thru another vid......this has so much Funk that James Brown stood straight up out of his grave and said " Damn , that song got tha Funk !!! lol too bad i found this song like 35 yrs late but at least we can enjoy it thx to utube
They played all over the south when I was growing up... always awesome. Tight and pure and, like someone mentioned below, blew a lot of bigger names off the stage.
Baby Jean you are the best. I grew up watching these guys all over Atlanta and West Ga. They put on a great show everytime. Check out the Thank You For The Love videos on you tube also
Sad to say, this band is not as well remembered as their other Southern Rock brethren. VERY underrated band. I remember Baby Jean's duet with Jimmy Farrar on the Molly Hatchet cut "Respect Me In The Morning" from the "Take No Prisoners" album.
This song crossed over onto Classic Rock stations like Z93 and 96 Rock. The group was more of a soul genre. But then again Rock was once the Black man's blues.Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis(even though he should have been arrested on a 1950's version of Dateline)made it popular to be perfomed by whites about 1954.
Listen for great music like this on a new radio station called "OffTheCharts" - featuring 70's (and some 80's) lost hits and chart wonders!
Go to Live365.com, type OFFTHECHARTS in the Search box and click on the station logo. The audio stream should begin. Become a VIP member and listen commercial free!
This song will be fearured on our first show beginning November 8.

THE ORIGINAL LINE UP WAS JUST SO CRAZY FUNKY ! Each musician held it's own. The live show was off the chain. LOUD , BAD AND FUNKY ! TURN IT UP AND LISTEN TO THE MOST UNDER RATED BAND IN ROCK HISTORY !
The most under rated band in Rock history ! They can funk , they can rock , Joyce can take it to the stage with tina tuner any day of the week and hold her own , and her husband's lead vocals are not the best but they compliment her voice with conviction. The Wyzard on bass can hold his own with the best of Bass players. He shows the rage of Flea and can show the sweetness of Marcuss miller mixed with the raw fury of Larry Graham ! Turn it up and listen to one bad ass band !
i saw them at dekalb college when i was in school there , i stood right in front of the speakers the whole show fuckked uppp and loving it. oh yeah the producers opened the show my ears rang for a week.
Can't remember the year to save my life but might have been the fall of 1981. A really good friend of mine was the sound engineer for The Producers. I was there from set up to take down. What a show!!!
MF put the worse ass kicking on my band at the NEC in san antonio, texas we ever had. They took all the Gigs. They slammed our ass so bad that we did not want to play. We were wondering why are we last? They should have had us play before them. Hahahahaha. I will never ever forget that. They were bad as hell and still bad. And we thought we were the shit then hahahaha what a Joke!

I was at that show at Dekalb College. It was in '80, '81, or maybe '82 ? And yes, the Producers opened for them. That was back in the day!
