@oomblikkies Because this is a "top speed" vehicle, a complex braking system would add extra (unnecessary) weight to it. If you research into cycling in the Olympics, the bikes do not have brakes or anything... they will only slow you down ;-)

People have to realise, they never intended to make the worlds fastest CAR. Simply to break the (Absolute) LAND SPEED RECORD. The (Absolute land speed record can be held by anything that travels along the ground. The record has previously been held by a train aswell.

This isn't a car, nor does it pretend to be a car. It is just something that travels very quickly along the ground.

If this was the case John Stapp's 1954 rocket sled run of 631mph would have been the the absolute record holder until 1983. Donald Campbell, Craig Breedlove and Gary Gabelich would never have held the record. The absolute land speed record is for a WHEELED vehicle of ANY propulsion.

@rad0ri - yes there has been new invention. Some of the same team that got the Mach 1 763mph record are designing a car to achieve 1000 mph. Check out "BloodhoundSSC" on the internet for a VERY impressive record of how the car has been designed. Personally I think it is less impressive than the first through the sound barrier - anything post 763mph is just another number, albeit stunning. I think they are quoting zero to 1000mph,and back to zero in 100 seconds?!
