For example, here in my area, for a motor vehicle accident, at least 1 ambulance 1 engine, and a First Response vehicle will be responding. When incident command assesses the incident, he/she may place responding apparatus either in service or down grade their response to non-emergency. I have nothing against your video, because you filmed something you believe apparently wasn't right to do, however very rarely will a professional EMS provider misuse their equipment.
I agree with almost all the other comments. EMS gets cancelled all the time en route to a call. People need to stop trying to catch emergency personnel doing something wrong. Go about your business and let us do our jobs!!

They could have received a call, turned their lights on and then a closer unit could have taken the call. So it may seem like they only traveled a short distance. Yes we also talk to each while working. We even have conversations while responding to calls.
If they want to do that I don't see the problem with it, we are supposed to be ready to pull over even in real emergencies so it gives us experience and practice. If you want to complain about wasting two seconds of your day for pulling over for an ambulance, you should of left earlier. Getting to work on time and going to the mall isn't even close to being as important as saving a life.

they got cancelled from an emergency call or down-graded to respond code 2 (no lights and siren/drive with flow of traffic) from code (lights and siren activated), they did absolutely nothing wrong! you sir on the other hand are an idiot, it should be common sense not to tape while driving (hello, distracted driving) oh but i forget if common sense was common than emergency workers would be out of a job and that ambulance would probably not have been responding anywhere in the first place!
GUYS -- its called code two, all emergency vehicles use it. it means they are on a call, it is not code three (lights/sirens) and they may use sirens and lights at their own discretion to get there.

Fire/ems/law responds to calls everyday and sometime they get canceled eather because the caller is refusing treatment or fire and law enforcement canceled them. Another example is here where i live if someone calls 911 because someones been shot ,stabbed or even over dosed all fire/ems down grades that means all the RED LIGHTS and SIRENS get turned off and they continue in route to the call until the scene becomes safe and after it has and only after it has they upgrade to responding.

Wait...why am I even bothering with explanations or coverage vs. cancellation when the fact is Emergency Vehicles are TRACKED. There's a monitoring system wired into all EMS vehicles that's connected to a real time display at dispatch. The system shows unit numbers, service status, realtime map locations WITH speeds (like looking at a radar map) and even alerts the desk if there's been a collision. Dispatch would be on that radio the moment they saw that unit go emergency while not on a call.
@gnockergnutz Not all emergency vehicles are tracked. As a matter of fact, I'd say the majority aren't. Except for larger cities or metropolitan areas that can afford the systems, most don't have GPS systems.
@gnockergnutz Most smaller systems and volunteer/rural systems DO NOT USE THEM. They are small enough and call volume is slow enough that they can track them manually. The majority of agencies in the US are small. I am on a dept. that ranks between 12-15th busiest in the US and we only started using the GPS feature in the last YEAR. It's still unreliable.

Might not have even been a cancel. Could have been rushing to provide coverage. EMS has to keep response times low so in cases where all the units in a specific square mileage are in service, units from other zones are pulled code 3 to fill the holes in the coverage net.

The ambulance was driving into Calexico so that means his transport was out of district, to make the unit available & to cancel any move ups to cover that rig, the unit will respond code 3 per dispatch & + it's a fire dept, in the state of California, once an ambulance or fire engine leave its station their exempt...

alot of the times if an ambulance or a cop is goin to a call that doesnt need immediat attention they will use lights to get through an interection so they dont hafta sit there for a couple minutes waiting for the light.

They may have had an EDP (emotionally disturbed patient)... Most of the time the ambulance would go no lights or sirens because they may scare the person... However, if coming to an intersection with a red light, they may use their lights to get through because they do need to move... that or the got a call and it got cancelled...

It is common to get a 911 call and you start to respond and if another crew is closer they would/should jump that call. Then you turn your lights and sirens off since you are no longer on a call. You are a D-Bag Its people like you driving and hosting your own LAME TV show that keep me in business!
It's called a stand down. It happens when a job goes out but is then cancelled for any one of countless reasons. It's not just ambulances but police get them as well & we all know how many false calls the fire department gets but they are the unlucky ones as they have to go all the way even when they know it's waste of time.

And possibly an Engine arrived first and determined there was no need for a Medic Unit. About the conversations: We always have convos in the truck, I mean really are we just supposed to listen to the blare of sirens!?
Easy answer to this one: emergency crews are often dispatched to emergencies or to back up other crews at emergencies. The case (or request for back up) may then be cancelled for any number of reasons. When the case is cancelled, the lights and sirens get turned off. Simple! Happens all the time.

for your information Calexico Fire has 3 or 4 ambulances. lots of time they are all buzy or in El Centro Hospital. When there is an emergancy call the Fire trucks are also equiped as medical responce units. if this ambulance was in El Centro and there was a call the Fire Truck would respond as the ambulance from El Centro. When paramedic from the Fire truck got to the call and they thinks the ambulance is not needed the cancle the call this is what you probably saw
I guess this guy has no idea what being "cancelled" means. It happens all the time. Sometimes a call may come in as a Delta (life threatening) with a CPR in progress. Then when a unit arrives such as fire responder it could be a stubbed toe. It happens ALL THE TIME.

Amazing, Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura had to stand up, turn around, and move his butt cheeks with his hands. This guy has brought talking out of his butt to a entirely new level. Besides WTH is "mis-appropriation of emergency status". My fav "M.A.O.E.S." call was an animal bite @ 3AM. 1 ALS unit and rescue plus a BLS Pumper and a cop b/c a mosquito bite was itching, REAL BAD! Then she won't sign my run report and I got wrote up. Not my fault Patient. refused to sign is abbreviated P.U.T.S.!

Fire/ems/law responds to calls everyday and sometime they get canceled eather because the caller is refusing treatment or fire and law enforcement canceled them. Another example is here where i live if someone calls 911 because someones been shot ,stabbed or even over dosed all fire/ems down grades that means all the RED LIGHTS and SIRENS get turned off and they continue in route to the call until the scene becomes safe and after it has and only after it has they upgrade to responding.

Wait...why am I even bothering with explanations or coverage vs. cancellation when the fact is Emergency Vehicles are TRACKED. There's a monitoring system wired into all EMS vehicles that's connected to a real time display at dispatch. The system shows unit numbers, service status, realtime map locations WITH speeds (like looking at a radar map) and even alerts the desk if there's been a collision. Dispatch would be on that radio the moment they saw that unit go emergency while not on a call.

@gnockergnutz Most smaller systems and volunteer/rural systems DO NOT USE THEM. They are small enough and call volume is slow enough that they can track them manually. The majority of agencies in the US are small. I am on a dept. that ranks between 12-15th busiest in the US and we only started using the GPS feature in the last YEAR. It's still unreliable.

Might not have even been a cancel. Could have been rushing to provide coverage. EMS has to keep response times low so in cases where all the units in a specific square mileage are in service, units from other zones are pulled code 3 to fill the holes in the coverage net.

I do it all the time - we get cancelled, the lights and siren go off ... in fact, if you watch my videos on here, you'll see that I have a bunch of response videos - and in prob half of them I get disregarded before arriving ... and turn off the lights ... feel free to watch them - the radio traffic is recorded by the videos too, maybe seeing it from the inside will help?

The ambulance was driving into Calexico so that means his transport was out of district, to make the unit available & to cancel any move ups to cover that rig, the unit will respond code 3 per dispatch & + it's a fire dept, in the state of California, once an ambulance or fire engine leave its station their exempt...

I do always feel bad turning off my lights after I've been blowing intersections, and wonder what the drivers around me think. But I figure they're halfway intelligent and could figure it out...

They may have had an EDP (emotionally disturbed patient)... Most of the time the ambulance would go no lights or sirens because they may scare the person... However, if coming to an intersection with a red light, they may use their lights to get through because they do need to move... that or the got a call and it got cancelled...

It is common to get a 911 call and you start to respond and if another crew is closer they would/should jump that call. Then you turn your lights and sirens off since you are no longer on a call. You are a D-Bag Its people like you driving and hosting your own LAME TV show that keep me in business!

It's called a stand down. It happens when a job goes out but is then cancelled for any one of countless reasons. It's not just ambulances but police get them as well & we all know how many false calls the fire department gets but they are the unlucky ones as they have to go all the way even when they know it's waste of time.

Most likely they were dispatched to a call, but then a closer ambulance went back into service and covered for them. Or they simply got canceled. And possibly an Engine arrived first and determined there was no need for a Medic Unit. About the conversations: We always have convos in the truck, I mean really are we just supposed to listen to the blare of sirens!?

Easy answer to this one: emergency crews are often dispatched to emergencies or to back up other crews at emergencies. The case (or request for back up) may then be cancelled for any number of reasons. When the case is cancelled, the lights and sirens get turned off. Simple! Happens all the time.

for your information Calexico Fire has 3 or 4 ambulances. lots of time they are all buzy or in El Centro Hospital. When there is an emergancy call the Fire trucks are also equiped as medical responce units. if this ambulance was in El Centro and there was a call the Fire Truck would respond as the ambulance from El Centro. When paramedic from the Fire truck got to the call and they thinks the ambulance is not needed the cancle the call this is what you probably saw

I guess this guy has no idea what being "cancelled" means. It happens all the time. Sometimes a call may come in as a Delta (life threatening) with a CPR in progress. Then when a unit arrives such as fire responder it could be a stubbed toe. It happens ALL THE TIME.

Sometimes when a call comes out, more then one ambulance is dispatched due to a scene based on information from a caller, when the first ambulance responds there may not be a need for the other ambulance and it is cancelled.
