  • This film never ceases to amaze me. Who is the singer for these thumris?

  • @speakerffone the singers are mentioned at the bottom of the clip as soon as the song begins.

  • People very often miss the gorgeous background songs & music of these classic films. How exactly did Smt Meena pass?

    Nick

  • its interesting that she died after making this classic movie, what a legacy she left behind, I could watch this over and over

  • This is such a lovely compilation. Thamk u very much.

  • evry seen evry step evry song colors dialogs such a great movie great director with the great actors

  • Dear friend, many thanks for this wonderful presentation. I was wondering, have you ever had the occasion to note the thumris/ghazals playing in the background in the movie "Umrao Jaan"? There is a rendition of Ghalib's "aah ko chahiye ek umr asar hone tak" in a scene where Rekha reposes in her chamber and is invited by the begum for a function at her place. This rendition of the ghazal is nowhere to be found on the internet. It is beautifully sung in a dulcet, female voice.

  • @tarnicles I'll try and find it. I know Suraiya has her own version of the song, as has Lata Mangeshkar.

  • Fantastic - I'm so grateful for this. I loved the film but now I love it even more. Please do let me know if any of these thumris are available for download?

  • @ubhardwaj try the link that's embedded in the video description.

  • Thanks so much for posting this - made me appreciate this film even more. If any of these thumris are available for download please do let me know.

  • Lovely collection. You missed one great one though "Najariya Ki Maari , Mari Meri Guiyaan" By Raaj Kumari. It happens in the background when SahibJaan comes with her khaala to Lucknow. You had the scene but i believe you cut it out too soon.

  • @rajs13 Najariya Ke Maari is available on the general release soundtrack of Pakeezah, so not really a lost thumri :)

  • This is amazing... so much more depth they add to the background of this movie...

Thank you.. a big one... for highlighting these thumri's

and now for million dollar ques... how can we get to hear the solo thumri's

i tried to find , ye dhuan kahan se... but found one with Mehdi Hasan saheb not Naseem Bano Chopra...and maut ki ulfat by vani jairam.. but dint get much with the searches.. maybe i dint search enough !!!

  • This is great buddy.. You have really done a awesome job in finding the HIDDEN Thumaris.. They are not lost just hidden.. Thats the Magic of Amrohi sahab

  • @ramils Thanks - I just love the ambient music he's put together in the kothas. And the dancing is wonderful too.

  • one my my most fav movies.
