That model 8 engine looks almost like my old 5S engine except for the little flap of tin over the head. Great little engines but the carbs run rich when the tank is full and lean as it nears empty. That's why the tank is so shallow.
Very nice! I saw a very interesting machine today, it looked like a very early version of a riding lawn mower it was basically a tricycle with a reel mower in between the rear wheels. Has anyone ever heard of a machine like this? I have no idea what make or model it was but I thought it was really cool. Unfortunately it appeared to be used as a decoration in someone's front yard very sad to see such a nice old machine just rusting away like that.
what you seen wasent that uncommon they are used in golf courses mainly for mowing the greens and tees. and sometimes tee banks also they still produce the hell out of them mowers you just have to know where to get one
Thats awesome. I bought one for 30 bucks and used the motor to power a go cart. I then put the mower back together and took it to the cottage. My dad gave it away. Pissed me off. It was a sweet unit. Wish I knew what year it was. I want another.
i love those motors.. we get them in once in awhile, and somewhere i have a buttload of parts that an old guy gave us a few years back.. i think i shall get on the ball and restore one for myself.. . BUT as the reel guy at our shops i will tell you now that i have absolutely NO love for the toro sportlawns!!!!!!!!!! zero! pain in the ass to sharpen..
Maximum operating speed should be 3200 rpm.

Great mower, I have the same kind, how do you adjust the blade reel to get it closer to the blade knife?

A guy who lives where I used to has two Jacobsen sickle-bar mowers which both date to around 1948-49, both with the original Wisconsin 23hp engines.

I had a Rocket Eclipse reel mower back in 1967
that was probably 20 years old at the time.
Extremely well made, ran like a swiss watch...

HOLY SHIT I got one just like it but with a more modern 2 hp engine. It needs new tires but otherwise it's good to go.

The video was taken at an old engine show in Morrilton, Arkansas on 9/29/2007. The build date of the motor will be uploaded shortly.
