  • the 45 minute charge? is it a full one?

  • @aadeebindy it's a full one from complete depletion of the battery if it's a 160 mile batterypack. But if you got like 80 miles left on the pack it will charge in like 22 minutes and 30 seconds.

  • we just bought a new bmw 5 series...electric cars do look appealing, but i think a good 4-5 years wait would be needed before its fully public

  • what is the name of the background music?

  • @masayeed2005 that's conquest of a paradise with Vangelis.

  • why does this car make more sense? As long as the electricity is produced by atomic plants, they aren't better for the environment. Think about that

  • @o0Platzwart0o solar panels son. unlimited clean energy. open your eyes vato.

  • @wwwzenwww Yes of course but think about how much of the electricity we use every day is made by solar panels....?

  • @o0Platzwart0o you gotta be kidding me...scale it up then!!! Either way, when using solarpanels for either the car or the house or both...it's a win-win situation!

  • Quick charge degrades battery faster.

  • @InfnityInfinity not with these batteries, they have done all the research and testing...believe me.

  • @InfnityInfinity For instance: Take the Mitsubishi MiEV. They did a cycle with 1000 charges between a 440 V outlet (quickcharge) and a standard 240 V outlet. The battery had 84% capacity left after 1000 cycles with the quickcharger and 83% capacity left after the standard outlet charge.

  • @InfnityInfinity So the medium option is best 4 hours with home fast charger less time than standard socket but more time than commercial fast charge.

  • What if you didn't have to charge your car at all its life time? (Google overunity and learn)

  • I am a big fan of electric cars. However, the 300 miles range version will set you back about 70-80K. Not exactly for everyone .....

  • @enmip well that's true....but still it's a kickass car...and if you had 70 - 80K this electric car would be the total winner compared to ANY gasoline car.

  • @enmip 50k not 70k.

  • @enmip That's true that the up front number sounds high, but when you consider that it takes about $4 to fill the "tank" as opposed to about 45-60 depending on where you live, you'll see that it starts to save you quite a bit pretty quickly. If you drive ~300 miles a week like a lot of people do and you're saving $50 a fill up, 4 times a month, that really brings the car down to the equivilant of 50-60k car. Agreed it's still pricey, but it's a lot better than 80k and a gasoline fill up.

  • When I analyze the way I use car it turns out that there are 16 or more hour intervals. I could just plug it in at home and drive to school/work normally. I really would mind buying electric car if not for the current pricing.

  • I'm investing in Nuclear energy! bye bye petroleum!!!!

  • @rayamanelly

Then invest in Thorium, much better stuff.

  • you do under stand it just takes a cuple of hours on the recommended charging platform and gets you 244 miles

  • @03vetdude You are talking about the Tesla Roadster, I'm talking about the Tesla Model S.

  • @Nichen that and the s will take 45 mins thanks to a new charging gear

  • Comment removed

  • I couldn't live without car exhaust sound,I'm sorry man!!!!

  • @mikness360 is it ok for you to live with if you're paying 6 dollar per gallon at the pump? Wouldn't you rather have an electric car and solarpanels if you had the option?

  • @Nichen Still man, having exaust sound i WAAAAY worth paying 90 bucks at the pump.

  • @Nichen if you live in usa that's really cheap, here(I don't know about gallons) in italy I've gotta pay 1,60 euro per liter!!

  • @mikness360 holy shit that's a lot! But it's about the same as in Sweden lol. In Sweden we pay the equivalent of 8.8 $ per gallon :)

  • @Nichen yeah, hate gheddafi for that, hope the war will end as early as possible,I can't stand this anymore bud XD

  • @Nichen A Car with Solar panels in Arizona would be awsome. Shoot you could charge the car in your shut garage.

  • Comment removed

  • Nicely done.

  • Guys you should all search on youtube: Tesla Model S Alpha. you will like it :)

  • that is a creepy song.. but loved the details and the car

    thanks :D

  • @Dalit5 thanks dude

  • maybe in the near future, if electric cars become common, cities and roads will have some sort of induction chargers below surface so the cars recharge or loose less charge while you drive on them... of course, we would have to pay some sort of tax for that...

  • Also, he is talking about the Roadster, Model S will be much quicker

  • I bet Big Pharma will lobby Washington to shut this down. They intend to keep people sick.

  • to bad that even if all americans started driving electric cars all that would happen is the electric companies would screw us just as bad as the oil companies are now

  • @andrew0901280 thats not so. If you buy a car like this you will be able to save enough money to cover your home in solar panels & in a years time you should be able to go off the grid and start selling your power to the electric companies. people are doing it now.

  • @andrew0901280 That's true BUT people are getting inventive on ways to create their on electricity (solar panels on roof, windmills). Easier than drilling and refining your own oil eh?

  • How come every time an electric car comes out they only sell it in California? People will buy these things in other states and countries too you know.

  • HELL YAH

  • yes but dont worry my friend justice its always made because we have god just check tesla went double in the last 5 months and keeps going big also the leaf and all electric is going strong buddy finallly no more expensive gas salutes to you for being a realistic and sharing your knowledege thx

  • @vitanovagypsy "Electricity literally exists around the earth in whats called the Aether or Ether or something. Energy can be drawn out of the thin air literally"

I'm all for effeicient non polluting energy but this kind of comment is just fruitcakery.

  • hmm nice video i really think is a great car this one , but this video would be best suited to honda clarity that emits H2O ......

  • @loufadoros20 yeah and what does a honda FCX cost? About a million dollars. How many filling stations do you have for hydrogen? You need expensive platina for the fuelcell itself, and the fuelcell doesn't last that long. And you need more electricity to produce or get the hydrogen for the car than to just charge it from the grid or your solarpanels.

  • @Nichen YES YES U HAVE A POINT BUT I BELIEVE IN LONG TERM THIS IS THE SOLUTION ...ANYWAY I AM STUDENT IN PHYSICS DEPARTMENT AND ASKED MY TEACHER SOME MONTHS AGO ABOUT THIS I MEAN SOLAR PANELS AND HE TOLD ME THAT THEY ONLY LAST FOR A DECADE AND I AM SURE U KNOW THAT THEY ARE QUITE EXPENSIVE

  • @loufadoros20 stop yelling.

  • @loufadoros20 Hydrogen is made by using electricity to turn water into hydrogen. Then the hydrogen is turned into electricity AGAIN by the fuel cell. Why not just use the electricity in the first place?? -_-

  • @jeffsandychelsea it is supposed being cleaner energy :S, hoowever can u imagine every single car being charged? this might cause a black out

  • @jeffsandychelsea

plain and simple: Energy Density and technical maturity of mobile internal combustion engines

    Li-ion Battery: 0.72 MJ/kg

    H2: 120 MJ/kg

But I still agree with using electricity since pressure vessels are usually a bit explosive.

  • Hybrid cars are actually better than electric only. If we change all the cars to electricity only we will have to burn a lot more petroleum to make energy and there are losses to distribute that energy. Besides that the battery is bigger and more expensive and the autonomy is shorter. Prius is still the answer when you think in smart drive. Two wheels electric vehicles are a good bet to the close future.

  • @vitanovagypsy ok... Tesla new model S... go for about 50k even with that tax cut how many people do you think can be able to afford it? Also the maintenance costs which is less than a regular combustion engine bc it has less moving parts, the parts cost might be more? That's funny I remember Hyundai started of with cheap economical vehicles that costs less than 15k and look where they are now? competing with BMW.

  • this guy is completely right you are the man nichen tesla is the real revolutionary company in american fuck ford fuck gm twice tesla roadster, model s, ... tesla going beyond fuckn dumb retarded hostesss like topgear and oil companies that get rich from polluting our world the time is now electric baby

  • Yes we can !

    Future Model S buyer!

  • tesla create the future!!!!!

    i will buy one!!!

    and many photovoltaics panels

  • Just because your car emit pollution does not mean it is still not causing pollution... The energy you are getting still comes from the grid.

  • @chinhhhhh - Not if you live off the grid and make your own electricity.

  • @Nichen how many people do you know can afford that?

  • @chinhhhhh Anyone paying for their current electricity costs.

  • @Nichen yep, with those super duper new solar panels who don't use any energy to produce and will last forever?

  • @chinhhhhh the grid is a way more efficient use of fossil fuels than gas engines. Electric cars, even powered by the Coal grid, are WAY greener than gas burners. Plus where do you want your power to come from? Foreign oil (wars, our money is bye bye, ect) or domestic?

  • @helliviknow good questions, you should start finding the answers.

  • @chinhhhhh

Anyway it causes way less pollution than a combustion engine vehicle..

  • @imixers I never said that it didn't.... I think any idiot can come to that conclusion.

  • Batteries need charging and that means burning Coal at the powerstation.

More electric cars more demand for coal, not entirely green is it.

Well an alternative to battery power is Fiat's new MultiAir petrol units, new fiat 500

with a MultiAir 875cc petrol engine output 85bhp, 0-60 11 sec and 70mpg and very very low emissions ( 2 cylinder unit) if Fiat keep coming up with this tecno

there will not be such a demand in the future for coal powered battery cars.

  • @alfistii1 Yeah well I will charge my EV with my windturbine and my solarpanels. Sorry dude but that's like the oldest argument against EVs...the coal argument. And by the way, building more coalpowered powerplants is like the most stupid thing mankind could do. The energy revolution is just around the corner, live with it.

  • @alfistii1 coal burning power stations recharging a car like this would leave it leaps and bounds ahead of petrol cars as far as being green. Those power stations get way higher efficiency than the average %25 efficiency from gas engines. And really coal power is on the way out. The green revolution will have most coal plants replaced by nuclear or other means. But in the mean time, id rather use the domestic coal and end dependence on foreign oil. This tech = national security

  • @helliviknow lol. I am a mechanic and trust me vehicles of today burn a lot more efficiently than the cars of yesterday due to new technology but mainly the EPA that constantly come out with new standards just to find a way to fine and collect dues on businesses and ppl. Now you all are twisting what i said i never tried to compare the combustion vehicle to an electric one. You must be an idiot to try to compare the two on the bases of which is greener. I simply said its still on the grid.

  • Clarkson is just acting like Clarkson. He's a complete arse thats why he didn't mentioned it.

  • @toyotaprius79 ; Mr weird beard

  • What's so sad is that it doesn't have to be this way...we could have electric cars with sonar in them so that accidents won't happen and you won't have to pay for needs like battery packs either...

We could do so much better with a resource based society....a world that would make us look back and gawk at our barbery..

  • @blaziermissy Sonar still can't prevent human error.

  • I like the car but where do you put the 2 small children in the trunk.

  • Dude, Top Gear is fun to watch but they will never give American auto manufacturers a good review, even if it isn't the Big 3, they just hate Americans (Top Gear, not Brits in general, though I am sure there are more than a handful that do) who cares, Tesla is the future, along with Phoenix and Aptera. In 50 years people will laugh at the doubters and liken them to people that laughed at Columbus for claiming the world was round.

  • Top gear is a SHOW..

you want real information - go and talk to professionals (or become one. takes some time to study though :D)

  • @EdTheBadass The problem is...that lots of people actually watch Top Gear not only because it's a show but because it gives a first review of a new car. If you type in Tesla Roadster in youtube you'll get tesla roadster top gear as number 2 in the scroll. They lied about the whole thing...they did have 20% left in the battery and they fooled the audience because of the producers of the show. They get sponsored by Shell for example. After this was discovered Top Gear had to excuse to the press :)

  • well the first practical electric cars were before the model t which killed the electric car version one and then in the late 1990s and early 2000s when it was yet again killed by a automaker, gm. But I do like those teslas, so awesome. Nice video by the way.

  • "the world's first practical electric car"? 2 words.....Nissan Leaf And by the way, 50,000 for a car isn't practical for a lot of people

  • @lustovermuscles yeah well dude...when I made this clip 29th of March 2009 the Leaf wasn't even there. Plus...if you consider all the petrol savings and the savings from maintenance the price is actually closer to 35 000 $. And it's the first electric car with a 300 mile option with a lot of storage space.

  • @lustovermuscles yeah well if it wern't 70% of American would not have more than too "nice" (cadillac escalade and f-3000 or whatever V8 madness they have that drinks gas) vehicles in the Drive way. 50k is a start, and i would buy one by selling one of my cars and finance the rest. the Only think i worry about is the life of the Battery (how many times can it take a full charge) and if swapping batteries out will become a monopoly or just too expensive.

  • Someday...

  • As we know that mileage and performance are a bond to a car. The more road trip, the more mileage used. However, this EV cares less about it for it wouldn’t sacrifice its mileage for performance. The use of power is so efficient that the driver can drive to the fullest without bothering much about “economical driving”.

  • Its georgeus

  • @LonelyWalker11 I've seen george, and he's not very good looking at all.

  • looks a little bit like maserati and aston

  • the soundtrack to this video belongs on Cold War Era Russian propaganda videos lmao!!!!

but seriously, cant wait for the model s, definitely will stack my chips to get one. makes sense right?

  • Eventually, there will be no more oil on thi Earth, and we will have to find an renewable alternative, and we are getting closer to that reality every second...

  • i think the idea of the simulated engine sound is for safty reasons, so pedestrians canhear you comming, and you dont have to have a V8 sound, you could load in the sound of a tie fighter if you wanted lol, or airwolf =P

  • @zebadee277 that was lame.. but the sad thing is i thought about it... i would want mine too sounds like a ATAT or Delorean or something. hhah... what about Ferrari sounds. I bet they would start a law suit.

  • Guys have you seen the rise in petrolprices around the world the last days? Time to get those electric cars on the roads as soon as possible!

  • there is an 3rd party option that enables you to have simulated engine sounds, for if you want electric but love the sound of a V8 you can still have both

  • fuck that ! i drove a tesla, and that electriv whine is so freakin crazy, i absolutely love it!!!yes sure bla bla v8 sound so great bla bla but ey steam engines sounded cool too ! (well actually hot but thats another point !)

v8 sound for a v8, v10 if you have a v10, but all electric whine for an electric motor !!

its the same, the more power they have, the better they sound :-) Electric power all the way !!!

  • If this can make gas cheaper for my V8, I'm all for it!

On a more serious note. I'm looking forward to this technology becoming mainstream and easily obtainable by the general population. I certainly don't mind powering my car with electricity.

  • is a must have XD

  • why is hydrogen fuel so looked down upon? from the looks of it it's more convinient and enviromentaly friendly than petrol and electricity.

  • And how do you make hydrogen fuel? Using electricity but not as efficient as doing it all electric. Also remember the Hindenburg... :)

  • @DMB1985CA Do you seriously believe in chemtrails and that there's actually enough resources to spray the whole population on a global scale?

  • @Nichen You can't convince them. Logic, reason, and common sense only makes them mad.

I was an airline pilot for about 20 years. I've tried to argue with the Chem T people and they just get mad and call me names.

  • Clarkson had his heart set on rubbishing anything electric as pointed out in the vid.The 16 hour charge time can be reduced to 3 hours....when does he ever run down a 10 mpg petrol car after 20 minutes of driving, he doesn't! he just takes it back to the hangar and convieniently fills it up with £50 worth. Battery tech will progress, the quoted 200 -300 miles per charge will got to an average of 300 and beyond 400,

  • @eldictator1

Yes, but don't fret- most people watching take what Clarkson says with a grain of salt- like speed cameras, etc.

While his obvious bios is wrong, though, I don't find it surprising that he didn't like the Tesla- I mean, its a great engineering feat, but, c'mon, what reasonable person would buy the Roadster over a Porsche Boxster S that costs half as much. . . .

  • Granted his on screen persona is different to his normal one, but his views which should be taken with a pinch of salt as you say, are his views deep down. They have an influence on car sales and what peoples perception of a company is. Where as you and I can laugh at clarkson others will take it as gospel and stifle the E.V movement

  • if i had the money i'd buy one tomorrow

  • @boogiebuddy01 if you had the money, why not today? ;)

  • true

  • @boogiebuddy01 If I had the money I would get them to sell me one of the prototypes!

  • this will be awsome! In turkey its prive will be doubled up , I'm quite sure but It will be worth to buy it, and you can save quite money instead of paying for gas because, if I'm not wrong, the electrical motors are much more efficient than Internal combustion engines, and, with no gear shifting in appropriate rpm etc.

  • This car is the very first practical electric car which you actually want to buy. I think we are witnessing the start of a new 'green' revolution in automotive transport.

Imagin a world where renewable energy, such as solar is collected on a huge scale and used to charge electric cars.

Anybody knows the name of the music?

  • Name of the music:

    Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis

    Video: watch?v=GtmlAaybIEs

  • or a quick battery change that takes 5 minutes

  • if you charge the battery in 5 mins, you will fuck up the battery

  • Tesla is actually working on a system so the model s can do a quick battery change @ stations rather than charging.

  • Cutting down pollution and giving us clean air to breathe in our cities is a good thing, a great thing in fact. Even if you don't have solar cells at home recharging this car will move the pollution to the powerstation where it can be dealt with in one place with filters etc. I just hope the power companies can cope with the extra demand!

  • Fucking Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson, I hope you guys know who the 2nd largest sponsor after BBC for the show is? It's Royal Dutch Shell.

  • I think its clarkson influencing and bullying hammond, may and the audience into thinking electric is crap, granted the g whizz is a piece of shit, but clarkson stated in his column last week he is anti elec and thinks we should be going for hydrogen power. Add to that he thinks anything green is a conspiracy by left wingers and makes the people owning one a hippy, apart from the fact most people love the look, ease of use and cheap fuel...we're all hippies anyway

  • @Nichen

yeah he's always bashing on the prius and hybrids and saying how much better diesels are; how they get better mpg. they also pollute way more, he leave that part out.

  • @S0u11ess

Do you know how much pollution goes into battery production? A ton, and also, where do we dispose of the toxic chemicals in batteries? Also, what the heck do you think were getting the electricity to fill this things "tank" with, coal, the dirtiest power generation of them all.

Were just transferring the way we pollute, so if you want to feel good because you cant directly see your pollution with this new car, go ahead. Trust me, its still there.

  • @runner13xc Oh my God, you don't know anything! Lithium Ion batteries are NOT toxic! Where the hell did you get that from? Lots of countries don't have 100% coal from the grid...in Sweden the electricity is like 90-95% renewable or with no CO2-emissions. And EVEN if you would get the electricity from coal it would still be cleaner than a Toyota Prius. But we are all pushing towards renewable electricity and that's the way we all must go. Also, you can use solarpanels from your roof to charge.

  • @Nichen

    OMG you dont know anything!!!

    1. Batteries are toxic. NiMh that are in the prius have low level toxins in them. Where did I talk about lithium ion?

    2. Sweden is not 90-95% renewable, where the hell do you get your facts from. Last time I checked its 20-30% generated from Nuclear is not renewable

    3. Coal is the dirtyest, I was speaking to it because the majority of electricity is generated by burning coal. Not all but most. No country has all their grid generated via coal.

  • @Nichen Oh my god you don't know anything!

    1. Prius has been using NiMh, which has low level toxins. I did not say Lithium Ion were toxic. Also you didnt discredit that manufacturing batteries is toxic.

    2. Sweden is not 90-95$ renewable, where the hell does this come from? Last time I checked the 20-30% from Nuclear was not renewable

    3. I spoke coal because coal is the majority of America's power gen, so our electric typically comes from coal. Coal is the dirtiest power generation

  • @runner13xc I'm gonna end this discussion now by saying that what I meant with 90-95% renewables I meant renewable OR none CO2-based such as nuclear. And YES OF COURSE, coal is very common in the US. But the question is, do we wanna continue that path? Solarsystems are getting cheaper each year and you can charge cars with them, or small windturbines. I have seen manufacturing of Litium Ion cells myself, and it seems pretty viable to me. Oil dependency is perhaps the biggest issue for everyone.

  • @Nichen

In every 1st world nation coal accounts for less than 49% of energy, by 2030 the entire world will be at less than 49% and it'll just keep getting lower so that argument is irrelevant. And Mountain Top Mining doesn't start wars or cause as much pollution and 3rd world country damage as Oil Drilling so tell this guy to fuck off.

  • @christmasdnc lol you know what dude? that's litterally what I did. I'm glad this planet isn't made up of 100% ignorant people. Take care buddy I gotta go back to work now.

  • @runner13xc still electric cars are greener running on coal power than a normal gas car. Its been found from extensive tests. A coal plant is much more efficient in carbon produced per amount of energy than the small gas engines in cars. Also many places have less bad sources of energy (nuclear) and renewable ones (hydro, wind, solar, etc.) We are going to have to switch to renewable energy soon anyway, its easier getting the electric infrastructure up now instead of when oil -to be continued-

  • @runner13xc ---continued from last comment--- when the environments to bad to let people us oil or its to pricy. This way we skip the not so good tie of being transportationless.

  • @runner13xc

Mining for battery minerals has never started a war so you've already lost this dumbass argument about "mountain top mining vs oil drilling" they're both bad but one is worse... don't be stupid here.

  • @runner13xc large coal plants are more efficient in the amount polluting per amount of energy than a small gas engine from a car. Hopefully soon we will be on mostly renewable energy, and if we get the electric stations up as the process is happening its a lot easier. Electric car batteries can last 10-15 year. Most parts in a gas car are also made toxic chemicals, and so is bug spray! In fact Lithium Ion batteries are not very toxic at all!

  • @runner13xc

actually my family has an array of solar panels that I would use to charge an electric car, if there were any affordable ones.

  • @Nichen "know who the 2nd largest sponsor after BBC for the show is? It's Royal Dutch Shell."

    What do you mean, sponsor?

  • @Wilberforce62 well they sponsor the show...invest in their show so they can show their big gas-guzzlers in attractive ways and make fun of electric cars, try to make people think there is no real option for gasoline/diesel cars

  • @Nichen First I've heard that RDS "sponsor" Top Gear. Where did you find this piece of information?

  • @Wilberforce62 Just google Shell Top Gear sponsor and you'll find evidence that Shell is sponsoring Top Gear. At least Top Gear live. It doesn't really matter that much because the oilindustry and the autoindustry walk hand in hand. Anyone who doesn't see that is blind.

  • support for goot thing if that comes to europe I am the first who will bze that car

  • There is a new battery that will charge in 10 minutes. If one plugs in their fuel cell car it will create it's own Hydrogen. I'm ok with hydrogen as long as it doesn't come from Fossil Fuels. Otherwise we would still be owned by the Saudi's

  • I'm all for clean air but lets do it with Hydrogen so much more fn can be had doing it that way, and no 3.5 hour wait or even 45 min. just fill and go. XD

  • pt 2 to comment by the way tesla, how about making a vehicle affordable for 3rd world countries, it doesn't have to bee that fancier, but least expensive so people can afford it. That way we can all start cleaning our Mother earth.

  • I know that things have to start somewhere, the US recycles pretty much everything, or just about. If the US is, I don't know about 1/16 of the world today (heck or maybe less), how much of a difference is it really doing if other countries don't recycle specially 3rd world countries were the govt keeps getting rich and people can hardly eat a descent meal everyday, haters pls keep your comments, this is just my opinion of reality, like I said Bravo tesla and other comp who are doing this.

  • To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before.

Does anyone know the ID of this music?

  • ( F ) the e car they never servive the gas corp

  • A day in the future will all need these. the oil will run out probably. Go Tesla, go electricity :D

  • soon mpg will be MPC miles per charge

  • quick nerd-reply :)

Miles per charge would be MPQ

  • YESSSSS!!!! I am in line Baby

  • .... people like you, are so... lame.

  • i prefer my ULEV smart fortwo, it fills up on gas, takes a minute to fill and can run up to 500 miles on a tank.

  • A gas Smart Car? Heck I can get the same mpg in my clapped out TDI jetta wagon with a slipping automatic transmission and 12 - 8 foot 2x6es next to me (or my wife and kids. I can't figure out how a gas Smart Car can qualify as a ULEV. Diesel Smart cars are a little better at 75mpg. but you are not going to fit seven people (or the 2x6es). in there with you. I like the Smart fortwo - It just doesn't compare to a car like this. Imagine a full tank every morning...........

  • Nice vid! Fucking Clarkson, that whore.

  • I cant wait... this car is soo Fucking good!!!

  • SILICON VALLEY!! YOU DAMN NERDS...lolol

  • mpg?

  • no mpg buddy. ITS ELECTRIC.

  • how does a sedan seat 7 people?

    other than that go TESLA!

    BAY AREA!

  • They where talking about fitting two backwards facing seats, though I think they will be optional.

  • ofc great idea, tell me whats the battery life and how will it hold change after 10 years ? plus wha we gona do with old batteries ? recycle ? find out what it means for batteries. and still price is high 50k ? cmon and its a small sporty car tbh not a family car, btw save planet and breath clear air ? in US factories uses no filters throwing tons of crap into air, try fix that, also go with trucks they use tons and tons of fuel and no1 care for those, and pesonal no brum bbom no pleasure ;)

  • You are free to express your concerns, but it's a question of letting people be able to buy electric cars

  • hydrogen

  • Comment removed

  • You're wrong. Besides, electric cars open up the possibility to produce homemade electricity and store it and use it in a new way. With the current rate it's about 3-4 dollars to fully charge the Tesla Roadster. The Roadster has a 52 kWh battery pack while the Model S has a 72 kWh battery pack (300 miles). That means the Model S cost around 5-6 dollars to charge. And that's a full charge which will give you 300 miles.

  • (Sigh) :-(... let's straighten some of this out. Engine draw is measured in amps and kW. Battery capacity is measured in amp-hours, and kW-hours. A 52 kWh mean you can run your engine at 52kW for an hour...OR..you can run your engine at the 185kW peak for 17 minutes...OR... you can run for 5 hours (300 miles) at about 10kW, which is all it takes for normal highway driving - and yes, for about $6.

  • An amp is a flow-rate, not a unit of capacity. That's like asking "how many gallons-per-minute does that tank hold?". An amp-hour is a measurement of capacity. I don't know the amp-hours or the voltage on the tesla, althought it might be published. It's adequate to compare the kWh of the battery to the kW used in the engine.

  • In your arguments, you are assuming that the engine is running at full kW load all the time. You're right in that you'd hardly get your money's worth (only get 17 minutes of use time). But no engine, electric or gasoline, runs like that. Normal driving uses a small fraction of the peak load. ~Cheers.
