  • We (Real Or Otherside Paranormal Research) investigated the Ancient Ram Inn back in Sept 11. John Humphries, what a character he was!... very colourful, infinitely quirky & clearly very passionate about his home & the 'spirits' which he believes reside there. We captured an EVP in the Bar area, as well as some interesting light anomalies, which we show in our evidence review video on our 'blogroopr' You Tube channel & at realorotherside.co.uk. We welcome you all to check it out. Happy Hunting!

  • search bourmead close in northolt in google street view to see the street as it is now

  • I saw 1 and 5 first time im 14 an my parents bought this on dvd an jus watched it by myself i had no idea it was fake so SPOILER ALERT when Parkinson got posessed i was so scared an im quite brave when it comes to horror films id have loved to be around 20 years ago when it first aired

  • Looks like a dude from the Renaissance or something.

  • I remember this when i was about 9, scared the shit out of me, had nightmares for days lol

  • Comment removed

  • i finally spotted im hes right behind the exorcism dude just looks like a normal guy with one eye and cat scratches

  • I was 11 at the time. I was on RED ALERT going to bed afterwards.

  • This was much better than Blair Witch.

  • I love how Pipes lurks behind the man that tried to exorcise him, it could almost branch into an seperate story line.

  • Is it Uncle Fester?

  • Comment removed

  • @woody545 Mate, that is hilarious!

  • @KarenMCRmy not to me when it was first broadcast!

  • It's fake as hell.

  • This scared the shit out of me when it first aired!, i was only 7 though :P

  • I thought this was hilarious

  • It certainly hasn't stood up to father time but this would have scared me crapless at the age of 14 or so....

  • This was the previous generation's Blair Witch Project. Those sorts of things have to be watched at the correct age, too young and you don't really get it, too old and you think "Why am I watching this crap?". That said I was about 8 in 92 and it would have scared the crap out of me then, "luckily" I missed it and they've been too scared to show it again.

  • @felneymike - lol. I watched it when I was 8, and I just watched it again on Google vids. It still scares the hell out of me :S !!!

  • Watched this when it was 1st on t.v. It messed wiv my head so much 4 years after. Easily the scariest programe/film i watched growin up. Man they should do another 1.

  • Oh my God we watched this at school years ago! Don't know why.. think it was to give us inspiration for our ghost stories lol but I slept with the light on for a long time after!

  • @cat0891 - They had you watch it in school? What on earth were they thinking! lol.

  • He looks like Nemesis from the Resident Evil games!!

  • i wathced this as a youngster and got scared.

if people are into ghost stories drop me a message, i have lived in a very haunted house

  • @MrCoventrykhan Really!?

  • I was a kid when I saw this on TV. I completely wet myself.

  • this was great i got my friend thinking it was real 4 yrs ago lol i first saw this when 10 i shit myself

  • no he visto ninguno... ah no!.. disculpa!, me tape los ojos cuando vi el video..

  • @csscripts said "I have not seen any ... Oh no! .. sorry!, I covered my eyes when I saw the video "

  • possible 10th sighting near the end when chris the camera man switches the camera from infrared to standard and then there is a explosion and the suspended apples swing once again pipes appears in the reflection of the glass sliding/patio door very blured though

  • there is a 9th sighting and not refering to the behind the scenes vid

u know when the mirror in the hallway shakes and parky said "it looks like an earthquake" you do get a fine frame shot of pipes in the reflection of the mirror

  • Isn't real but probably the film?show I got most terrified on

  • i cant see him in sighting 3 behind the crowd. can anyone help me out???

  • @jackchrisevans Between the blonde woman and the blue coat.

  • @stevenc123 i see it now! cheers

  • @jackchrisevans stop it exactly at 1:34 , it's very clear.

  • @jackchrisevans That's the most obviously fake of them all. I thought it was just an old guy standing behind them, but he's got a bloody face.

  • i think half the fright came from the subtle eerie mood music! it gets to you without you knowing it! i saw this when it aired too as a kid, i taped it and thought it was brilliant! but my grandma wouldnt let me keep it!

  • the scariest is in the crowd cos he's fully formed not an apparition and he looks like a crash test dummie in that like almost like he has no nose eyes or ears which is what i thought when i first saw him maybe that is the case as the pic at the end could just be early drafts of the finished make up effect of pipes but either way pipes is now at the top of my list of most scary fictional entities beating the blair witch and the demon from paranormal activity

  • I watched this when BBC1 first broadcast it on Halloween night, I must admit I wasn't convinced at all.It was obviously faked imo.I actually preferred watching the Halloween horror movie all-nighter on BBC2 following it

  • This is a joke documentary.

  • shit myself watchin this when i was a kid.

  • Who other than children thought this was real? It was total rubbish.

  • it was brilliant, i was a wee lad at the time and was shitting myself, had to run down stairs and watch it with my mum and dad hahaa. Gr8 to see its on youtube now, memories,

  • 1:17

    OMG

Is that the guy from Robot Wars?

  • Pipes is like...the fucking love child of Jason and Freddie.

  • Sadly, I read a preview of this in a magazine at the time which spoilt the "real or hoax?" angle for me. That said it was worth going to a pub and seeing two fully grown men watching it on TV and on the point of tears, terrified! A pity someone killed himself after watching it and the BBC lost the bottle to try and do things like this again

  • @Stygosi Killed himself because it seemed a more interesting activity than watching the programme, presumably !

  • my son soiled himself like many other kids.

  • Argh! Mr Pipes is back: mrpipes.tumblr.com

  • A kid with learning difficulties killed himself a couple of days after this aired, he thought he could hear his pipes banging when it was just the heating.

I wasn't alive wen it aired but my mum told me about it.

  • Still gives me fucking goosbumps, even though I know its fake!

  • looks really obvious now but when this went out you were never 100% sure what you had seen .

  • my mum was telling me how scared she was when she saw it on telly so you told me toi get it up on youtube,i will admit its rather creepy, but its obv fake, v.good though

  • its just a really creepy movie...even when you know its a movie!! well put together, and great storyline! just a shame some of the acting is awful lol!! but great movie - creeped me out and i have nerves of steel lol!!

  • I could not sleep after watching this when I was 10; watching it now it looks fake but at the time I nearly had a heart attack

  • @ryanbickham I slept in my parents bed for about a fortnight afterwards! The BBC received so many complaints & some actually DID have heart attacks! ;/

  • I think that's good effects for the day, still creeps me out a long time after! I think Number 5 is the best done, while the camera is panning, and then immediately shoots back and theres's nothing, that is great camera work and effects. Cheers!

  • I watched this the first time it was on telly when i was 15, i dont mind admitting i totally shit my pants.

  • Worrying to think that back when I saw this I nearly fucking died scared shitless!!

Watching it now it's quite obvious it was staged and the actors were toilet

  • What! Was that the guy who plays Dave Lister!?

  • @TheFishersNet Yea, it was Craig Charles.

  • @TheFishersNet yep

  • what crap!!! you no what happend to sarah greene?????? she died! on tv!!!! never to be seen again!!!!crap crap crap!

  • Me and my brother watch this on the Halloween night in 1992 aged 11 & 9 and it scared us half to death, I just randomly come across this and called my brother and as soon as I said Ghostwatch he replied "pipes". Its left a lasting memory for the both of us lol

  • My favourite piece of Ghostwatch trivia: One viewer sued the BBC for soiling his trousers with fright whilst watching this.

  • cool, that make up always gives me the creeps even thou i know its fake.

  • cool, that make up always gives me the creeps even thou i know its fake.

  • Is this what they were talking about on 'the bubble'? I don't know why but the name 'pipes' is hilarious :D

  • Its obvious fake lol

  • omg i remember watching this with my family on that halloween in 1992 and it scared the shit out of me. the worst bit was when the door under the stairs opened and you saw a small part of 'pipes' lol i had to sleep in my mum & dads bed that night lol sad! watching it now 18 years later, why the hell did i get scared by THIS???

  • I thought this was freaky as hell back in the day. Now I'm older and wiser, it seems quite silly. A precursor to the film Paranormal Activity...

  • You know people actually killed themselves after watching this because they thought it was real...

  • @redskinsfreak614 there was a paratrooper that soiled himself aswell :P

  • @redskinsfreak614:

If all the stories of people commiting suicide after watching something scary were true we wouldn't have the problem of overpopulation now.

  • when i was about 8, my big sister made me watch it with her in the dark, and as i truley thought everything was genuine, was terrified for years!! lol

  • this haunted me as a child and i feel cheated as an adult cause at 9 years old i thought this was real and spent about 6 years reading about rubbish!

  • i lived in that house as a kid and was there when they filmed it months before it was aired. completely fake. the kids room was my grandparents bedroom! craig charles was funny!

  • why the thumbs down, completely true have photos of me in the house what more u want?

  • i remember watchin this has a kis and thought it was real an scared me shitless lol but has given me a keen interest in the paranormal to this day

  • Genius editing! This scared the living crap out of me at the time! MUCH better than anything "Most Haunted" ever pretended to find! Thanks for posting x

  • haha yea i remember watching this as a kid with my granparents..they missed the intro bit and thought the whole thing was real..the bit where hes behind the door fkin scared the shit outa me bigtime when i was young..i wouldnt sleep alone for ages..lol

  • OMG I DID THE EXACT SAME THING!

  • A fabulous job by the BBC, really excellent. For everyone's information - people were informed it was a drama before it aired, but some people missed the intro, causing a bit of an uproar as you can imagine! A joy to watch, though, very nicely done. Thanks for the collection!

  • I missed the intro and utterly shat myself watching this as a child. Brilliant!

  • in the crowd look behind the blonde women

  • One word. DUH!!!

  • @straightcleaner yes of course it was fake you domb shit, it was supposed to be fake, the public just didnt know.

  • @straightcleaner Well, no shit Sherlock

  • @straightcleaner Well duh..... It was billed as a drama, not a documentary.

  • @straightcleaner oh shit, i would never have guessed!!

  • could you put annotation rings around his appearances so he's easier to spot, i couldn't spot him in the crowd one

  • Comment removed

  • Was just looking at the Ofcom code and this programme would have contravened section 2.10 had this been broadcasted just like in 1992 today.

  • when it was on tv i only remember the one where he is near the curtain. it shit me up!!!!!!!!!!! i couldnt remember craig charles being in it tho! he was seeing a lot of pipes and i dont mean the ghost :)

  • same!! i was wondering for years what the hell i had seen on tv when i was a child that left a memory in my head for so long! although i thought the image that i had seen was the man 'behind' the curtain not in front of it! Maybe i seen a different show but i am sure it was this tv programme. All i knew was it was on halloween in the early 90s so this has to have been it! British show, halloween night, appearing like a documentary and a bedroom scene with a figure behind the curtain.. i googled

  • I just watched Ghost Watch, it's actually quite chilling, and this video was brilliant, scared me even more, lol!

  • the second one would have me crapping my pants if I watched it right in front of the telly. It's like as if it's a reflection of him behind the you. That one was well played. :D

  • I crapped myself when I watched this. Ten times scarier than The Exorcist in my book.

  • Rewatched this on Halloween night. I saw the original when I was young. I remember seeing the mother in a play a few weeks before the broadcast so kind of ruined it. Still scared me though and even watching it as a 38 year old guy, I gave me the creeps. If the acting were better it would have been amazing! One thing both my friend and I kept laughing at, and has not been mentioned here, is that the cupboard under the stairs was called a GLORY HOLE!! Means something totally different now!!

  • The glory hole had me pissing myself too. One of my friends couldn't take it seriously because of the acting. It still creeped out my niece though.

  • Damonderby, you must have been in your twenties! You big girls blouse :)

  • @damonderby When is the sequel?

  • Get it on DVD. The bite back video on youtube also has a bit of a debate about the film. No way could they make someting like this these days. Proper freaky shit.

  • i dunno how i managed to watch all of this when it was on, i must've been 6 or 7 at the time.. and the one thing that i still remember perfectly is the girls voice when pipes possessed her.. that creeped me out for ages just thinking about it....

impressive that it got a 10year ban and is likely to never be aired on TV again...

  • It's pretty good huh,,, are you about 23 / 24 now...?

  • It was a fake. 5 idiots seem to have thumbed down your comment instead of explaining that this was a fake designed as entertainment, but it seemed so real people had PTSD after watching it... Hope that explained it.

  • Things like this make me glad to be a child of 1996...it's like a British Blair Witch...O_o

  • I just watched this for the first time, what an incredible piece of television. The sad thing is, this would never be allowed today, there'd be too much controversy.

  • When I was a kid, I didn't speak for 2 days after watching this program, my Dad made me drink holy water and everything. I look back now and laugh, naughty BBC!

  • PIPES, still the scariest thing on TV

  • I loved this !!!

  • ha ha ha i remember watching this as a kid an i SHIT MYSELF!!

  • Creepy even though its fake...

  • This program scared me when i was a kid. I remember one guy actually comitted suicide cause he also had noises in his central heating at home and said the film had cursed his house.

  • yeah i remember that , he hung gimself from a tree in a park i think....anyway after i watched it i slept in my mums bed for a month

  • imagine how it wouldve been if they went with the original ending... apparently pipes was supposed to use the broadcast signal to "possess" every tv watching it

  • Do you know if anyone did actually kill themselves after or during this.? i find it very hard to believe.

  • Yeah. An 18 yr old called Martin Denham who was mentally disabled killed himself a few days after this was on tv.

  • Lol, the only ones I saw were in front of the curtains in the bedroom and under the stairs.

  • The last one seems very fake to me!!!!!!

  • People had to actually go through therapy after this was aired they were so freaked

  • Comment removed

  • I give this show props...it started the paranormal show phenom. No one had really done anything like this on a major network before; thanks, BBC!

  • I just saw this video,it actually was a bit scary.

  • yes it is a hoax

its supposed to be a hoax

they even say its a hoax

    its a mockumentary

    not a real ghost hunt

  • @tommyboi9 No, your wrong. It isnt a hoax or a mockumentary. Its a drama. It was in no was suppose to trick the audiance. Thats why in the beginning they put opening credits, with even 'Written By' in them.

  • @Cybaria its the same thing

    your just splinting hairs

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarthuuurlaaaaaaaaceeeyyyyyy?

  • Its real footage of Gary Glitter but they had to call him "pipes" for legal reasons

  • Comment removed

  • @CADAVERHUSK and because he was supposed to bang on the heating and water pipes at night, so the kids nicknamed him pipes.

  • @CADAVERHUSK Best comment ever XD;;;

  • fake the actors are horrible

  • it was a halloween drama in 1992 but was took off a real story of a polterguist in enfield in the uk look it up on you tube for the enfield polterguist in 1977

  • Well Pls reply me :)

is this movie Real Footage or is it just A Movie ...

because its nice what they all can do with camera's ;)

so my question was is this treu Story or fake i think its fake but my friend thinks not :)

  • its a fake

just like blair witch , The Poughkeepsie Tapes The Last Broadcast

  • ok ty and YEs its creepy :p

  • its fake

but when i watched it for the first time it was so real

  • your friend is an idiot

  • I remember this I was 11 yrs old at the time and I was do scared!!! Toward the end I turned the tv off and didn't dare put it back on!! And then the next day found out it was a hoax!!!

  • lol the third one is rediculous, iam amazed anyone spotted that

  • wel weather this ghost is real or not it gives me goosebumps!

  • at 1:30 i didnt see shit but i gray plastic head of a penis lol....i lmao when it went in slow motion "ishee mishee" "ishee mishee" lololololol

  • Great video. I only caught 3 or 4 of them while watching.

  • even though i knew it was a spoof, i managed to convince myself it was real. When i saw him in the curtains, i nearly called the show. It really shit me up!

  • I'm actually scared to so much as start the video! LMAO! My mum told me she was scared of this when she was younger, so I think I might leave this page now :P

  • I remember watching this think i was about 12 an i have to admit it did scare the s**t outa me :)

  • I remember watching this last year in English my teacher said its not scary and we was all scared by it...totally thought it was real...really freaked me out lol

  • I was 19, on my own babysitting. I was so scared I sat through it all, scared to move . I plucked up the courage to find the remote and accidentally turned the TV OFF instead of over! The room went pitch black and THEN I could hear someone saying my name. turned out to be a mate calling up to the window! It's the scariest thing I've seen (especially the part where the girl appeared from behind the sofa covered in scratches) I've got the willies now!

  • I love that you have this story to tell. It means the BBC did something kind of special for a night.

It left an imprint. It's a shame when I first saw it I'd been told it was a hoax.

  • Couldnt see him on sighting 3+4. But sighting 2 was REALLY SCARY

    (5 Stars)

  • In sighting 3, look between the woman with blonde hair and the woman with the blue jacket. You are looking for a pale-faced man with a black (injured) eye.

Once you have seen him, you will be able to recognise him reflected in the window in no. 4. (His face is just beneath and to the right of the light in the ceiling.)

Hope this helps you to enjoy one of the best horror filme ever made!

  • Is this true?

  • What do you mean?

  • No. It's a mockumentary.

  • Remeber this freaking me out when I was 15!! Excellent tv.

  • hm a little scary

  • This was amazing when i first watched it i didnt know it was a film i thought it was a real documentary and god dammit it scared the hell out of me.

  • i watched this "live" when i was a kid. It was the scariest thing i'd ever seen. I recently rented it and watched it again, the effects are a bit dated now, but still very very unsettling to watch, especially given when it aired, so many people thought it was real, including a ten year old me!

  • I never knew he was seen outside in the crowd!!

  • Oh man. I remember when this was on - I didn't watch it, because I assumed it was going to be a boring panel discussion programme. I'm almost glad I missed it, I would have been terrified.

  • I had to sleep with the light on for weeks after this! Great bit of TV! Really frightening stuff, well to a 10 year old anyway!

  • mummy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a genuinely scary film and just watching these freaks me out quite a bit. Thanks for uploading :)

  • True. To this day Ghostwatch remains the scariest thing ive seen on the screen
