Thank you George for your explanation. I had an idea that you would have a very good reason for removing that tree. Hurray to you that you left a good part of the tree standing. Wow,,,, 14 large holes, what a job!
Have a question: Why did you remove that tree? Do you know that dead tree's (if it is dead) are very beneficial to all birds? Leave it standing if at all possible. Please.
The reason the tree was removed is because in a week the woodpecker made 14 large holes completely around the tree and it was just standing on stilts. It is only 15 feet away from the house. It was cut only to the holes
in the tree (approx 50 feet was cut off).
The birds do not use it because Hawks, Eagles, Racoons and Squirrels are also in our yard as well as other preditors.
Magnificent Bird. We have them too here in Canada. I made a video of one today, unfortunately it had too many MB's. 100 MB allowed, mine had 147. Too bad.
Pretty cool video.

Hi Kym.
It was taken on the waters edge in the Gorge Inlet just a few miles from the City of Victoria, British Columbia.
Glad that you enjoyed it.
