I have had the same problem with my xbox for ages and it's got to the point where i sit for hours opening and closing it just to play and some times it won't even work and when it does it just ends up freezing in the end. One question was wil it scratch the disc if i do this when the tray is closed or should i hit it when the tray is open?

i watched another video before this, thought this was a joke but it worked, try having the disk in when error occurs, open the tray and take out the power plug. take disk out. plug xbox back in and put the disk in, my game started to work, although sometimes my xbox would read it have the times i got "play dvd" error. hope it helps

Word of warning, if you wail on the top of your console while it's got a spinning disc inside, there's a good chance you'll scratch the disc.

I have the exact same problem but I find re-attaching my hard drive and clearing the cache just does the trick without the need to batter the console.

From other people I know who had the same problem with the BenQ drive, it doesn't end well when it stops reading discs. I just sucked it up and got a new Slim console after Christmas before the VAT went up. Now to try and convince my girlfriend to take my old 360 so I can have a wee arcade machine at her pad....

Hey, If you want an easier way what i do is. when it says open tray i grab the tray and push on end in holding the other end until i hear a click then let go. if that doesnt work try this. unplug your xbox. Squeeze it together HARD then plug it back in it will work :)
