He is love, and he wants us to choose to love him back. Commanded love is not love at all. And to comment about the firstborn.. It says "give to me", not "kill". I think the animals was killed, not their sons. In their context it was probably interpretated that way, and when we read Exodus we can see too that it was.

I find it funny that christians condemn satanic cults for making human sacrifices, but god either let human sacrifices happen in the bible, or he commanded it. My examples would be, Exodus 13:2, Judges 11:29-40, Joshua 7:15, and Deuteronomy 13:13-19.

@xtremejohnny69 Iknow what you mean, but there is a very important difference here. God holds you accountable for your actions. They died because they chosed to do evil. Strictly speaking, that's not a sacrifice. A sacrifice is done to atone for i.e a sin. That is not why they died.

He could have stopped it, he could have denied his gift of human sacrifice, but he didn't. And what'd the firstborn children do in Exodus 22:29-30? Were they evil?

@xtremejohnny69 God did not say kill the firstborn, he said: Give them to me.. We read in Exodus 13:14 that they give thier sons a mark on the forehead as a sign. “In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him.. " So he wasn't killed.
Jepthah made a wow to the Lord. If you do this you HAVE TO keep it. God knew that.
And read Exodus 23:7 "Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty"

@Benne175 If god is omniscent and knew Jepthah was going to kill his daughter, why'd he allow him to make that offer? “You must give me the firstborn of your sons. 30 Do the same with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but give them to me on the eighth day." Exodus 22:29-30. If god didn't want them to be killed, why'd he command they be given to him on the 8th day?

@xtremejohnny69 It was Jepthah's own decision. I think all the "why did God allow this and that" - questions goes back to who God is and how he created us. He is love, and he wants us to choose to love him back. Commanded love is not love at all. And to comment about the firstborn.. It says "give to me", not "kill". I think the animals was killed, not their sons. In their context it was probably interpretated that way, and when we read Exodus we can see too that it was.

@Benne175 It's not a choice if you suffer from not loving god. Would you consider paying taxes a choice? I wouldn't because you're punished if you don't pay. Jepthah may have chose that, but god could have denied the request since he does love us. I don't think god would want the death of a young girl at the hand of her father so he'd want to stop it.

@xtremejohnny69 God has done all he can to save us from condemnation. We do have a choice to love because our taxes has been payed for already at Calvary. Secondly, God is love and the TRUTH. He can never as the judge of the world compromise the truth in any way. That is the foundation for a court to be legal. But he loves us and he wants us to know that we can escape judgement legally. The about why God is who he is isn't the right questions here. It's a fact. We can just have our opinion.

I just figured I'd try and show you the bible isn't what pastors make it out to be. They can lead you in the right direction, just as I am doing now, but salvation is a personal experience with God deep in your heart. After that you just know that you know that he is real.
