Amanda, I used to love you. Not so much anymore. Also, the only thing this movie has in common with the Scarlet Letter is the red "A" on the clothing, the fact that everyone brands Olive as a whore/harlot/slut, and the fact that they find out they were wrong and that she was just trying to be a good person (like Hester was considered a saint at the end of SL). Those themes it has in common with the book... Everything else... No. Good try, though! :)

But this movie, Emma is getting caught up in a world she kind of created herself. So I didn't think that initially. @ChristinaDuffer It's not supposed to "re-enact" the Scarlet Letter. Both the movie and the novel depict the way society reacts to girls sleeping with men. When the Scarlet Letter was written, it was inappropriate for a woman to commit adultery but completely acceptable for a man to do the same thing. Likewise, Olive is typecast as a slut for sleeping around, while guys are glorified for it. Easy A doesn't follow the book's plot but it captures the general theme.

@jamesjiao The problem is not so much location as the colors. Red on black, really emphasizes it. Have you ever seen Cheaper By the Dozen 2? The mother has to change her shirt and the new shirt is black and has the word Mom right next to both her breasts on both sides. That's what this is like.

@ChristinaDuffer LOL! I know. I enjoyed the scarlet letter bit because it just really made you feel like you were in HIGHSCHOOL. Like it was a legit world. And I guess if I had to read the scarlet letter, this movie would make me actually read the whole thing and I didn't know about the movies... wish I did that back then. But lol yah this movie does not explain SL in any kind of detailed needed for school XD

@ChristinaDuffer It's not supposed to "re-enact" the Scarlet Letter. Both the movie and the novel depict the way society reacts to girls sleeping with men. When the Scarlet Letter was written, it was inappropriate for a woman to commit adultery but completely acceptable for a man to do the same thing. Likewise, Olive is typecast as a slut for sleeping around, while guys are glorified for it. Easy A doesn't follow the book's plot but it captures the general theme.

@jamesjiao The problem is not so much location as the colors. Red on black, really emphasizes it. Have you ever seen Cheaper By the Dozen 2? The mother has to change her shirt and the new shirt is black and has the word Mom right next to both her breasts on both sides. That's what this is like.
Again, the color is the problem, not the location. If she were wearing a blue shirt it wouldn't be so awful.
Terrible movie anyway...saw the first ten minutes on Youtube..ew.

I don't know anymore. I LOVED Amanda bynes when she was younger. She had so much potential to pull of anything but now it's kind of a shame she's lost all that potential as an actress. I really hope she gets it all back because she was one of the very few young talented hollywood stars that everyone looked up to during the 90s and early millenium.

@Dank951 I agree....but Hollyshit won't give her the chance. The reason she's blonde is because she realizes that you need to be blonde to make it in this industry. I think she's gotten rather desperate lately. It's a shame, really. She's so wonderfully unique that Hollycrap doesn't know what to offer her....most of their drivel is so bland and worn out. I thought her role in WILAY worked great for her. Too bad she can't find a sitcom to shine in.
