Just to answer a few of the questions posed: The guy in question was unconscious but the opening shock of the reserve canopy (which would be quite severe) brought him too. His injury was quite extensive mostly from the collision than anything else. The principle from the makers of the CYPRES Unit is to give the skydiver every possible chance to "fix" the problem in-hand when there is little time to do anything more CYPRES activates it's cutter to sever the loop.
there was a girl that was jumping with automated opening, and when the small chute came out she grabbed it unintentionally, and she brainfreezed and fell like a brick.lucky that the cypress opened the reserve chute.and when she was down she saw the recording and said "next time i'll be more carefull" and the instructor was like "what next time?" :)) she was out .because of the incident whe had to fill about 2 hrs of paperwork :|
what was the selection method of participants for this jump , personal simpathy or the beer volume they had all together last night??
At such "Bright" organization of jumps, its quite possibile that next time the solution of a problem will be out of the competence of CYPRES.... too bad
Lucky he got relatively stable just before it fired... It looked like he was coming to just before it fired, his spin started to slow down just before it fired. If he had been in that spin for a while longer he may have deployed a reserve into a huge spinup - may as well have had no reserve!
Any idea if they had any other injuries? Landing in trees isn't fun even when you are in control.
Hmmm, good example of a tracking jump gone bad. Did the briefing explain on how to enter the formation? Briefings save lives, cypres is just a backup. I know from experience collisions are not funny...
Should the Cypres AAD have been activated to open at a slightly earlier height - say, 1,500 feet? It does seem like the skydiver lands very quickly after activation and didn't slow down fully enough - still had some fast impact with the ground.
Cypres is an emergency unit you never shall count on. When you leave an aeroplane your job is to pull!! A lot of demojumpers exit from 1500 feet. The parachute did slow down maximum, but seems like he is not flaring the chute.
@RedFoxAce the cypres is a last chance life saver in case the jumper is unconsious or unable to deploy his own chute - on tandem rigs it activates higher - but they are supposed todeploy higher anyway if it activates any earlier it might fire when you have a good chute deploying - that could cause a double malfunction or a downplane - that shit kills people.
Nicolas purportedly woke up under canopy, while Eugenio (who hit him) woke up in the ER with a new titanium face thanks to all the broken bones.

On life it is impossible to save. Only fools and Russian save on life, but they hope on Russian perhaps will carry by

I get physically ill watching this. This is exactly why I have an AAD and always jump with a helmet.

what was the selection method of participants for this jump , personal simpathy or the beer volume they had all together last night??

did the deployment bring the skydiver back to consciousness?? It looked like he grabbed his toggles immediately.

@3676chris 1500 foot demo jump is a very lkow jump made by experienced jumpers only - it's not a lot of guys that do that.
He wasn't flaring the chute cause he was barely conscious - lucky to have the fabric over his head to stop a fatality!
