  • In the bottom of your sand filter you have a series of PVC tubes, usually 6 or 8, called laterals.

    They have tiny holes in them to allow water to pass through them but not filter sand.

    One or more of these are cracked or broken. They all need to be replaced.

  • Thanks for this info. However, I'm getting a lot of sand going back into my pool with the Hayward Sand Filter. Every time I vacuum, it comes right back in. A friend of mine had the same problem and he switched to a cartridge filter. Any tips on how to get rid of this problem, using what I have? Thanks in advance.
