@313foxbody420 yeahh it does shake quite a bit. mainly because of the rubber bumpers it sits on i'm guessing. the Engine mounts have pieces of rubber on them and they are slight rotted. and should be replaced. but I haven't gotten that far. As far as the exhaust goes. I have a new Thrush Glasspack installed now. it doesn't sound much different but it does have a deeper sound.
your idle speed seems a lot higher than mine..when i turn my truck opn it sounds like a cross between a low idleing big block and a diesel..(from the sticky lifter in cyl 5 or 6) and when in the cab its just like a low drone
Yeah this was taken a while back, now the Carb has been rebuilt and the module the controls the spark plugs (can't think of the name) has been replaced. It now idles a lot lower, quieter too.
I have a 77 F150 300 and it just started running real rough so I did a tune up plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filters and even replaced a leaky donut gasket at the exhaust manifold flange BUT no change in the rough running condition. I was thinking it may be time to replace the carb, was your running real rough at idol and even worse when it was in gear and is this why you rebuilt the carb. About 3 months ago I did replace the module and it ran 80% better not bad the mod only cost about 35 bucks
Since you did replace everything else, I would say it's probably a good time to get your Carburetor replaced or rebuilt, how many miles are on your truck? Before I got mine rebuilt i would have to keep my foot slightly down the accelerator to keep it from clunking out on me. At first we thought it was the carburetor so we had it rebuilt, unfortunately afterword we found it was still clunking out while driving, but purred like a kitten while idle. this is when we found out it was the module
cool, whats do u usualy get mileage wise, i have neerly the same truck exept for mine is a later model with Electronic Fuel Injectin and i'm curious what the carburated models got
thanks for posting, i've also herd the Ford 300ci series engines were indestructable and seeing yours is further proof of it lol
well recently i have been getting about 16 mpg in combined city/highway miles but the best i have ever gotten was about 18 on highway miles alone. It's a good little truck
I have about 32000 miles on her now. I haven't had one problem yet except the thermostat was seized shut so the engine wouldn't cool. so it over heated once or twice before we were able to get it to the shop.
only real problem i ever have with mine is the fuel gadge is wierd on the tanks, the rear tank nvr worked when we bought it used but the front fuel tank gadge is wierd, it reads half when full and when it hits empty it just dies and falls past emty and u have to guestimate how much gas u have left. lol
Yep all guages work. We just got the Temp guage to work, but that was the only one not working to begin with. Off the top of my head I think i only have three. The speedo, Gas, and Temp.
My Fuel tank is fine as far as i know. I have owned this truck for two years now and i haven't had a problem yet.
I had to laugh. I have a 1982 F100 300-6 that I drive everyday. Get about 14 MPG when I don't get into the secondarys of the 1bbl. The 300-6 is the best engine that ever came out of Detroit. I think I still have another 15 or 20 years left on mine. I will drive it until the wheels fall off.
Awesome! yeah i get about 14 mpg as well. But on really good days i get about 18 mpg.
All the people i have talked to have told me that the 300-6 was the best engine from ford. and even though i have only owned this truck for a year, I believe them. never has this truck ever failed to start in the coldest temperatures. And on top of every thing else its completely stock with the exception of some fog lights.(-15 Degrees F, i believe was the coldest i have ever started it)
@panzerkampfwagen123 No? she's kind of arthritic and takes a while to sit down sometimes.
Thanks though!

astranine 3 years ago
It is a C4 Transmission. Three Speed on the Column.
Thanks for the question!
