This was my GREAT GREAT grandfather . I have been to soil hill pottery and it is a fantastic historic building. I have the full film in sound and i have some of his pots and bricks ! thank you for the upload .
Thanks for this must be a good ten years since I last saw this... there was no sound on the original. I'm sure there is enough information without commentary.... i just put iTunes on shuffle and enjoy....
I first came across these kilns back in 1960 when I was an 11 yr old boy. Finally, I am able to see the big picture thanks to this - good job. Nowadays, although they still stand, their only function is to provide a nesting site for Swallows.
I hate to be the bearer of sad news, but this building is now being demolished.

That's great! I didn't know there was sound to the film. I'd love to see the original.

I hear a new print of this film is in the works and soon to be on DVD, probably through Craftsman Potters Association (UK) or similar.

This is a great video! Thanks for sharing.
It is sad to think that few potters still make pots for a living.
Now everyone gets their over priced mold poured pots from some chain store.
And many potters are too good to throw plates for normal folks, if you want a set of plates you need a fist full of cash.
Just in case you are wondering, yes I can throw. I'm happy when I visit my family and friends and see my pots are being used.
I would have loved to work at this place. :)

To bad about the lack of sound though.
Thank you non-the-less
