They ruined master of puppets? if you really want to hear metallica's version go and listen to metallica , this is dream theater version and if they used keyboard that's because this is their version dude!, i think Jordan Rudess did a great job, it must be difficult to make a keyboard sound good in a thrash metal song.

no its not needed, you can play with 1 hi-hat, 1 snare and 1 bass drum. you can play bass with 1 string and guitar with also 1 string. of course you can do that... :)
