Actually...it's not. There aren't many researchers in the fields trying to find the exact number of chinchillas and tagging them. They recently found a large herd in the past couple of years in an area they thought unoccupied by chinchillas.

If we were in different positions I wouldn't mind chins pelting me. For future reference...learn how to put a coherent sentence together. It took me well over 20 minutes to decipher your writing. ;)

You really should educate yourself before posting things that aren't true. People don't "hunt and kill" chinchillas. They're bred in barns and I've seen a chinchilla electrocuted. They don't feel anything and are gone within seconds. Cruelty is being tricked into watching stupid, uneducated PETArd videos like these!

Do you know how many chinchillas I've taken in from "pet" homes that have ringworm, malo, and any other disease a chinchilla can come down with because they had this giant cage that stressed them the fuck out. They are PREY animals...in the wild they live in BURROWS. Small cages are heaven for them and make them feel safe and secure. Ranchers give fresh water on a daily basis and wash the water bottles...every day...and read my other posts PETArd.

I would...as long as it's done correctly. One quick shot of high voltage through the heart is like a quick shot of adrenaline and then they're gone. If you knew anything about the chin fur trade you would know that it's a rare practice to actively kill the chins for pelting. The ranchers make more from selling them as pets to idiots like you than selling the pelts. The chins that get pelted are the ones with diseases that will kill them anyways or chins that die from natural causes.

I'm standing up for knowledge. They do NOT skin animals alive. These ranchers are good people. They are not sadistic and they do this in a humane way. They're barns are inspected on random for health and humanitarian regulations. They do not just run around killing chinchillas like you all seem to think and say. You'd have to fully understand the meaning of "enjoy" for me to answer that question. Since you're only a sixth grader and as such have a limited amount of knowledge I don't think you can fully comprehend the meaning behind the word. Of course there are good ranchers and bad ranchers. Some chins are living relatively ok in some ranches, while there are ranches like the one peta exposed. The point is animal abuse is very easy in places where they slaughter animals, necessary or not, I don't think it's right to justify their actions.

Ah...the famous PETA chinchilla rancher video. You do know that the PETA members were also killing animals in that video and said "Wow, that wasn't so bad." None of those animals would have been killed that day...if the PETA investigators hadn't asked the rancher, however unethical his practices, to do it. Those types of ranchers are very few and far between in the US. If you visit other ranches...the chinchillas are treated better and live better than 90% of the chins in pet homes.

Where did you come up with a number like 90%? We can just say that perhaps chinchillas are kept in better conditions than livestocks for food. A chinchilla can live up to 15 years or more, I doubt the ranchers are going to keep them for that long. Chinchillas are social animals that need interactions, mostly they are probably kept in single cages. If we are going to take their fur, why not take their meat too? Isn't it a bit wasteful that we usually don't eat the animals that we skinned?

There's a simple reason for that. Chinchillas do not have enough meat to use for sustenance. Many ranchers have tried over the years and there is even a cook book. We're now looking into burning the bodies and using the ash for fertilizer because you're right, it is wasteful to just use the fur and ranchers are well aware of that. I know many ranchers with chinchillas born and raised on their ranches that are upwards of 18 years. Every rancher checks every chinchilla at least twice a week.

The chinchillas are fully socialized with other chinchillas. They do not need to see humans on a daily basis...just other chinchillas. Which they do. I know multiple pet owners that have left chinchillas alone in a room long enough to cause the animal to fur chew. I got 90% from the insanely large numbers of pet owners that surrender their chins and the ridiculously low number of pet owners that keep and properly care for their animals. No...their are backyard breeders and there are very few ranchers like the one PETA exposed. They also weren't completely bad, they were tired and old and had been trying to sell their herd for many many years with no interest and no help. PETA encouraged them to kill those animals and even helped. In my eyes PETA is at fault for those animals deaths, they asked that they be killed for them. Chinchillas are treated and cared for extremely well on ranches. Animal abuse may happen in other areas

Someone recently mentioned to a rancher that they knocked a chins head against a cage for biting the owner (pet person) and the rancher was completely horrified and told the person that you don't treat chinchillas that way. They are also the ones that sunk all their money into tests for finding proper nutrition for chinchillas and health care. One rancher even has a vet living on his land to learn about chins.

To answer my own question...No, they're dead...what do they need the pelt for in death? After death you are left with an empty shell. A husk. Something that is no longer the animal it was before.

You're question has absolutely nothing to do with whether pelting is good or bad. Pelting is and has always been done in the United States AFTER the animal is deceased. Most die from natural causes.
