Gold and Silver, Fire Red and Leaf Green were amazing because you got to go to two regions. In G&S you go back to Kanto and in LG & FR the Nanashima Region. I wish they would make another game with two regions :/

FireRed/LeafGreen added the Sevii Islands as near-endgame/postgame content. You can find some 2nd and 3rd gen pokemon once you pick up the National Dex (postgame) and completing the postgame quest allows you to hook up with R/S/E and Colosseum.
