Option #2: Do the same fence thing but put a block on top and torches on all sides.

The ice is there because the new update included smoother season changes.

Soon there will be snow...but after a while it will melt.

Did you at some point put this map (by copy and pasting certain folders) into a creative mode game, if so the creative mode game spawned you in a snow biome before you replaced said folders. Therefore when you changed the maps and started the game the game was still under assumption you was still in a snow biome and started to change the surface of the water. The only fix I could think of its to create new creative mode world, one that spawns you in a 'normal' biome and.....

replace the folders of the creative mode with this worlds and see if it starts to melt the ice, if it does save the game then replace this worlds folders with the new creative mode folders, before you do though make a back up of each folder. If this fails to work fire solves everything........

To get rid of ice its easier to make jack-o-lanterns (Pumpkins with torches in them) they dont look too out of place and have a light level of 15!

The ice is because the 1.1.0 update has turned taiga biomes into snowy biomes. It will probably snow around your house soon. Girl On Duty's LP 63 shows that. :3 Hope this helped, even though it's not really a fix.

you should get the slabs mod, it will allow you to make all kinds of slabs, like wool slabs (also dyed wool slabs) which can help you to make your house look nicer :)

Hey Kevin this wont help you with your problem with the ice, but a similar thing happened to me and my friends on our multiplayer server, we had made this massive city, and one day everything started to randomly freeze over. We couldnt figure out what was going on, so i decided ok well im gonna run in this direction till the ice and snow goes away, make another city there. i ran for about 4 minecraft days and eventually gave up. It seemed the whole server had turned into a massive snow biome.
