What is wrong with you people? I never saw the original, and it may be wonderful, but it doesn't change the fact that Nicolas Cage is absolutely brilliant in this movie. So fucked up! That scene when he's with the couple in the parking lot trying to get a hold of drugs is shocking, exciting and riveting. When Cage is laughing maniacally with the drug dealers, he is superb.

Yes, I have. This has nothing to do with "the original." Herzog was attached to the movie and then changed it to his liking so that it really is a different animal. He's never seen "the original" and asked the producers to change the title to "Port of Call." They refused. There's a drug addicted cop. That's the only thing they have in common. This movie stands on its own merits. It's just an unfortunate title.

Apparently, the producers added the "Bad Lieutenant" title for marketing purposes (Herzog was against it, I think).
