I live in the South west too and have been to Dartmoor a few times over the years but not nearly as much as I would have liked. This video has inspired me to do so and allowed a distant and dear friend to see it too :)
@whirlessence Hi, it says at the end - it's 'Cape Clear' from the album Kitty Jay by Seth Lakeman, a young Dartmoor-based folk musician/songwriter who was nominated for the Mercury Music award several years back. He (and his family) are very talented :)
Superb Chris. I was born on the South Moor and have spent my life exploring this ethereal place. I like the music and calm of the pictures. Is there any chance you could release another one, include place names in perhaps a smaller white font? You've used a most appropriate purple font which is Dartmoor heather colour but I can't quite read some of the text. Thanks for posting.
i did some of my royal; marine training on dartmoor, even when it was awfull weather you still felt you were at home and your ancestors were not too far away, was great :)
I have spent 31 summer vacations on The Sacred Dartmoor. This vieo expresses all the emotion, love and awe I have of this heavan on this fallen earth. God Bless the maker(s) of this short tribute to the most kind and cruel place in Great Btitain.
Je suis heureux vous les ai aimés. Bon pour entendre parler d'une personne française visitant la Grande-Bretagne ;) Ma famille a une ferme dans la région de Deux Sevre.
That's a good question! When I flew in from France on Sunday we descended through the clouds and could see the moors at one point and I had mixed feelings, like I was in the world yet not of it? Maybe it's a case of over familiarity.
I used to get dragged reluctantly out of the house at weekends as a child and walked mile after mile over the moors and loved it! So it's in my blood and putting the photos together has reminded me how grateful I am for having such a 'backyard'. But I love the bright lights too, which is one reason I love Taragh's vids, and revel in new places which is why I'd like to live abroad again. Odd isn't it?!
Most of the good photos here belong to a wonderful local photographer called Jen Bryant, who I hope won't mind - as they were all I could get access to last week! She has a stall at Tavistock market most weeks. At some point I'll scan more personal photos and put something special together, perhaps when I visit my Dad over Xmas, as he keeps the 'crown jewels' of family photos :)
Beautiful photographs Chris - so are any of these your photos? ! I remember driving across dartmoor in the middle of the night and seeing the wild ponies. We stopped at Jay's grave - after hearing the story about how fresh flowers appear there daily and no one knows who placed them. And yes - there were fresh flowers there.
The tragic story of Kitty Jay is ever popular - and another great song by Seth too! (I think he got a Mercury nomination for it). They claim piskies renew the flowers at night but I suspect it's an older resident near Manaton who keeps the tradition going - I hope the little folk won't mind me saying ;-)
going hiking in dartmoor this July, am so excited!

Beautiful - one of the most magical places on earth. Could you tell me what the music is, please? It's very haunting...
